Cabela's is killing me!

Cabelas makes guns and hunting look good.

The inside of the Cabelas built in CT is magnificent. From the diorama of animals to the Gun Library they make our passion look fine.

While I already had a complete collection of guns Cabelas had a couple more that were even better.

I have spent more than I planned to a number of times when at Cabelas. If you know your prices and shop their sales you can do well. I dropped almost $400 there yesterday. Good prices on powder and primers right now as well as some other things. I had about $70 in Cabelas bucks and paid no sales tax in Delaware.
For me it's about 85 miles each way but no hazmat, no shipping fees, and no sales tax makes the trip worthwhile especially on a rainy day.

Cabela's is usually on the higher end of prices, but there are ways to shop smart at Cabela's. As mentioned, you should never be paying more than $5 in shipping on an order over $99. Also, eBay frequently has $100 Cabela's gift cards for $85. I also wait for deals... Normal Cabela's prices are nothing to write home about, but I got a pair of boots that were $150-175 elsewhere for $80 at Cabela's. Cabela's also had the Leupold RX-1200i DNA/TBI on sale for $299. It is normally $399 most places. If you watch the prices and buy things smartly, you can stretch your dollar at Cabela's. And when you buy through eBates and use a Cabela's club card, you can get additional cash back. They are, however, in business largely because of all the impulsive buyers and people who visit their stores and just cannot leave without taking something home. They are also one-stop shopping for the most part. Some people would rather pay more for items out of one-stop shopping convenience than have to go to multiple stores or multiple websites.

I agree that Cabelas prices are on the high side. However they run a lot of sales so with proper timing you can get some good deals.

In the last two months I have brought 16# of W-231 from them on-line. The last about a week ago it was on sale. Try finding 231 elsewhere.

I have been stocking up on Hornady American Gunner ammunition when it runs on sale. American Gunner is promo ammunition loaded with their XTP bullet. By waiting on sales I usually pick it up for $25.00 a box.

Normally we run a small balance which we pay off each month. Unfortunately a sick dog ran the balance up. Then with then next panic coming in July/August if the Republican Party chooses to self-destruct by refusing to nominate Trump or Cruz as the Republican Candidate I believe now is the time to stock up on guns, ammo and reloading supplies. Unlike the previous panic there will be a very real threat to our gun rights this time.

Things could get ugly real fast.

I agree 100% about stocking up, that's what I'm doing. I'm running the budget each month and keeping it under control, but I'm buying as much as I can afford right now in primers, powders, and bullets.

I'll restrict my response to BSA by saying I despise Trump and I'll leave it at that.

I don't get to the actual store very often, as the one I patronize is about 800 miles from here (Wheeling, WVA). However, they did just have Federal Small Rifle Match primers on sale (although on back order) and I've been looking for them since before Christmas.

Widener's is also putting a hurt on the credit card, with Norma 203B 8 lb for $140 (RL15 by a different name) and now having Sierra .223 77 grain match for $95/500.

Local store has no number system..... Usually very little wait to get a look and feel of a gun, now the purchase can be a wait.... Process very slow. Now all of the bass pro shops I've ever been to have a number system and have been slow to poor service.

I, too, have taken advantage of Cabela's recent sales. Having just returned from the Tulsa Gun Show, I was reminded how terrific the sale prices have been at Cabela's. Bought some H322 last week and found it in Tulsa for $6 more per pound. Glad I live only 30 minutes from Cabela's.
