I just bought a CAI AK-47 locally. The rifle has Tapco black plastic furniture and a Tapco G-2 trigger. Finish is good but had been painted over(guy I bought it from got it that way and did a pretty good job removing the paint, some residual though). Included with the rifle was a nylon sling,2 pro-mags and 1 Tapco mag (all 30 rnd). Also included was 220 rounds of Tula 124 grnhp ammo that was obviously just bought as boxes were like new. Price for everything was $450 and a 10 minute drive from home. How does this price sound to you? BTW,the guy broke it down in my presence so I could inspect the internals before buying.

As long as it shoots and the sights are on straight I'd say you did okay. Not the best pricing I've ever seen but you didn't get a bad deal either. I would recommend upgrading your magazines though. The US built mags don't have metal locking tabs on them and I've seen the plastic ones break time after time. If you plan on using the rifle as more than a once or twice a year range toy then it would be worth the small amount of money to pick up some combloc mags for it. Last time I looked (a few weeks back) you could still buy surplus steel '47 mags for $10-$15 on line.

Checked the sights first thing, perfectly straight.

I checked around several gunshops last week and the cheapest AK was an CAI AK in 5.45x39 for $459 without extras. I bought a new Saiga carbine (NIB) for $399+tax=$422 otd.

As far as the magazines goes, they function well in use but seem to fit too tightly for quick mag changes. I tried some Wilson Master Molder mags that were even tighter. I think I'll follow Rob G's advice and try some metal mags, afterall that is what it was designed to use.
