Can you change the furniture on a WASR-10? Can you swap out the full stock for a folding stock? Does anyone make black furniture for the WASR-10? Is changing it hard? How much does new furniture cost? Sorry for all the questions. It's just that I finally convinced my wife I need to get a WASR-10 before they're banned, and I want to make it as EBR as possible.

Furniture

Check out these guys for stocks:

I like this setup for my AK's, I put a vertical foregrip on the bottom, a flashlight on the side, and a Holosight on the top:

I know MidwayUSA and others carry the ACE stocks, and Copes Distributing and some others carry the TDI Handguard set.

Very good instructions on furniture removal/replacement can be found here:

Good luck!!

Yes, I'm pretty sure you can Tapco-ize it to your heart's content. Just make sure to get furniture for a stamped receiver AK, not milled. I saw one in a gunshop a while back w/black furniture and it looked okay. Not my cup of tea, but if that's what you want, go to Tapco.com

Thanks for the replies! I really appreciate it. I may not go black with the furniture, but just wanted to check out my modification options. Anyone here swapped out the full stock for a folding one? Just curious. I personally kind of like the full stock and wood furniture, but I want to see what my options are in case things get banned again.

I have heard nothing but negatives from guys who have gone to folding stocks on their AKS. Apparently they are uncomfortable to shoot, and even the good ones have a tendency to eventually loosen up and rattle about. Nope, it's wood for me. Here's mine refinished.

re: Furniture

Hey Juna,

Regardless of color scheme, it really depends on what you want out of your AK. Many people like to HAVE an AK. They enjoy the look, maybe take it out on occasion for pumpkin blasting, bump firing, etc. There's nothing wrong with that when done safely and on property where permission to do so has been acquired.

Some people also see the AK platform as a limited value machine, a truck/trunk gun that is what it is.

On the other hand, there are others that see what an AK can be.

The WASR (I handled one this weekend) has some limitations. The Trigger is generally horrible, the furniture fit and finish a bit shoddy, and the FSB can often be canted. All these limitations can be fixed. A quality stock, grip, Trigger Pack, Handguard Set, and the addition of a good optic (whether something domestic like a Bushnell or Burris Dot, or even a Kobra) can turn the WASR into something much more capable.

Now to do that, it takes time and money that when completed, gets into AR$$ which some choose not to do, and that's fine.

In the end, you need to decide what you want out of your WASR and how much effort you are willing to put into it.

Is this a rifle to look at? A rifle to plink with? A rifle to compete/train with? Do you plan to hunt with it? Do you have expectations to fight Zombies with it if SHTF (God forbid you ever need to)?

These questions will help YOU decide what YOU want to do. It's YOUR rifle...you can be in for a penny, or in for a pound, and you really should consider what you want out of it before investing your hard earned $$$ in it.

Safe shooting,

I highly reccomend the M4 stock available from Tapco for 70 bucks. Way nicer than the wooden stock.

Why not just buy an AK clone with the stock config you want?
It will be high-cap and will come out cheaper in the long run I will bet.

id go with the old school stock set up. the M4 stock set up gets old fast i got one on 1 of my ak's and i sick of looking at it but thats just me you may not hate it in a few months
