re: Furniture
Hey Juna,
Regardless of color scheme, it really depends on what you want out of your AK. Many people like to HAVE an AK. They enjoy the look, maybe take it out on occasion for pumpkin blasting, bump firing, etc. There's nothing wrong with that when done safely and on property where permission to do so has been acquired.
Some people also see the AK platform as a limited value machine, a truck/trunk gun that is what it is.
On the other hand, there are others that see what an AK can be.
The WASR (I handled one this weekend) has some limitations. The Trigger is generally horrible, the furniture fit and finish a bit shoddy, and the FSB can often be canted. All these limitations can be fixed. A quality stock, grip, Trigger Pack, Handguard Set, and the addition of a good optic (whether something domestic like a Bushnell or Burris Dot, or even a Kobra) can turn the WASR into something much more capable.
Now to do that, it takes time and money that when completed, gets into AR$$ which some choose not to do, and that's fine.
In the end, you need to decide what you want out of your WASR and how much effort you are willing to put into it.
Is this a rifle to look at? A rifle to plink with? A rifle to compete/train with? Do you plan to hunt with it? Do you have expectations to fight Zombies with it if SHTF (God forbid you ever need to)?
These questions will help YOU decide what YOU want to do. It's YOUR rifle...you can be in for a penny, or in for a pound, and you really should consider what you want out of it before investing your hard earned $$$ in it.
Safe shooting,
