Can you see Glock making a 1911 pistol

I'm thinking that with their name recognition, and their reputation for reliable guns. Is it possible for them to come out with a SA/DA, advanced 1911, that was lightweight, and came in a single or double stack mag. design.
It would be an overnight sensation, especially if it worked as well as their other guns.
Forget that it is counter intuitive to their culture, who better to change their tactics than themselves. They must be losing some business to the other players by now. Would it suprise you?

I would be very surprised as Glock is the definition of mass production.

IF they did decided to produce a 1911, I have a feeling it would be in name only and not very close to the original design.

I don't think Gaston Glock has any interest in building just another 1911, and if it's a pistol that combines 1911 ergos into a newly engineered pistol then it's neither fish nor fowl. The things that make the 1911 so popular (its ergos, crisp SA trigger, etc.) are sort of the antithesis of the Glock school of design. Honestly, the way I see it (and I'm not a fanboy of either design) the 1911 is the quintessential combat pistol design for 75 years. The Glock is currently the quintessential combat pistol design. I'm not sure if Glock wants to be anything else.

I can't see that ever happening. Why jump into an extremely crowded market with a product they've never done before? Especially when they don't seem to be having any trouble moving product, +/- 45 GAP pistols.

I'm no expert, but that doesn't sound like it would really be a 1911. I'm not sure though. What exactly is it that makes a 1911, a 1911?

Because it'd be another opportunity for them to bring in some more cash, even if it were short-lived. I am drooling over multiple 1911's now, along with their 3 1/2 - 4" .40 cals, and if they came out with a 1911 .40 cal or even just a .45 ACP Glock 1911, I'd jump on the opportunity to own one, given their reputation for reliability.

At least for me, the fact that Glock has stuck to it's guns, literally, and not jumped on the 1911 bandwagon is what appeals to me. If I want a 1911 style pistol i will look into the magnitude of companies that produce their own rendition.
I wouldn't want to see Glock start to make 1911's anymore than i would want to see Kimber start to make revolvers. It's just not what those companies reputations are built on.

Their reputation is built on a single design just tweaked and modified to different calibers and sizes. I don't see how a 1911 with Glock on the side would be a done deal on reliability -- plenty of people do reliable 1911s as well or better than Glock would/could if they didn't do anything different with the lockwork, and if they "fixed" the 1911 lockwork then you're getting into speculation on whether they would actually make it any better.

I don't see the king of mass production Tupperware guns (and I don't mean that in a negative way) ever producing a 1911 type gun ever.

Glock is very good at what they do and I hope they just stick to their formula for success.

I always thought it would be cool if someone could build a striker-fired pistol on a single-stack 1911ish frame. If glock or anyone else decided to make something like that, I would get one in a heartbeat, specially if you could interchange the mags and grips with a 1911.

I don't see what kind of business case Glock could make it for it, so I doubt it would happen. They already have the Glock 21. You have to remember their primary customers and who they design and build their firearms for.

I'd expect Glock to make a rifle sooner than a 1911. That is just completely against everything Glock stands for. S&W wasn't as big of a leap because they already deal in metal frame handguns.

I wouldn't think so. A glock is a glock is a glock. No matter what caliber or size, for the most part they all look the same. It defines who they are.

In this case, I believe it would be akin to asking if Ferrari would make a Corvette. It's just not their thing.

Well considering that they did take their .40 cal design and fixed it due to their problems of lack of support, I am thouroughly impressed with their ability and drive to keep pushing a quality, yet mass produced firearm out the door.

At the moment, last I knew, RIA was the cheapest 1911. Glock pistols are in the 500 dollar range. If they did a 1911 in the same price range, it'd be one of the cheaper ones out there, not to mention outstanding relianility and craftsmanship with their firearms, though they do not look the prettiest, I think they would be fairly successful.

I can't find the source for it but I do believe I read an interview with Gaston Glock from many years back where he was poo-pooing the 1911 as a relic of an age gone by.

Honestly I don't expect Glock to make anything other than what they make now (with some future modifications down the road). If they did anything even remotely different than building semi auto handguns I could see them doing a carbine of some kind ... but even then I really don't think Gaston wants to make anything other than what they excel in now.

No. Glock mints money with their $80 pistols that sell for $450.* Their other product lines are similar utilitarian items, mostly military-oriented, selling at 50% or greater profit margins.

*I own two Glocks and like them, but the $80 cost of production has, IIRC, been documented or even conceded by the company. Nice work if you can get it.

glock's made the same gun for 20 years in different sizes...what could possibly make someone think they'd come out with a 1911?
