I have my CCW,but can't carry at work(state building),w/out checking it in w/ security every day, which is hastle. Also they log it in and I don't really care to have everyone in administration know I carry.(bunch of liberal morons!!)So my thought was a car gun.My car is in a garage that is semi-safe.No one in their right mind would break into my car(OLDS 88 w/ 198000 miles).
So what do you think and do you guys have car guns that you leave in your car.
I'd hate for it to be stolen, but I have never had my car broken into. The only time I'd leave it in the car would be at work from 8-4.My fear is that for some reason I'll need a gun during the day,or get a frantic call from my wife, and have to get into the house and safe to get a gun.Just trying to cover all my bases.
Sence having my CCW(about a month) it feels weird to NOT have a gun on me.Better to have one and not need it......
Thanks TONYB:cool:

I left my gun in my car every day for the past several years while at work. I have a receipt for it and it was in a locked vehicle. If someone steals it, they steal it and broke the law. I'm not offering this as advice but to what extent can one protect their gun?

The thing that I wonder about is what sort of frantic call would you get from your wife that would require a drive home to get a gun out of the safe? If you're wife's at home, then you'd need to go home anyway. If she's at her work or another residence, I can't envision a scenario where you would need to go get a weapon and then go to her work. Maybe I just don't understand the scenario you are forseeing.

One does have to get to and from the office...safely.
Carjackings, Car Trouble happens to you and the wife.

Many persons work in "restricted "workplaces--some with metal detectors. Many states require a "lockable container", check your stats--even so not a bad idea to have one, valuables, and firearms..." one went to responsible and reasonable steps ..."

I'd say to get a safe that can be mounted in your trunk. That way, you have less worry about your car gun.
Get a lower cost gun, like a Makarov or a J-frame revolver for general commuting. They work, are durable and reliable, and if somebody does steal you car, you won't be out a lot of money.

A FEG PJK-9HP works quite well for this purpose;), if you like SA autos.

You can use a safe.

I use one from these guys www.handgunsafe.com

I work in a secure place, but the surrounding area is a high crime area. So the gun comes off when I get to work, goes into the car safe. When I leave for the day, the gun comes out of the safe and goes back on the hip. Best I can do.

Seems to me you're probably at the greatest risk while walking from your office to your car in the garage. Parking garages are the sorts of places thugs like to find victims. Personally, I'd check the gun in and out at work.

You are right, and that might be best for TonyB, since he has the option. Unfortunately, I don't have that option, so I rely on an Emerson Commander and OC spray on that walk to and from the car -- but we do have a heavy police presence around here, so that there is often a cop car cruising the parking lot -- helps to reduce parking lot trouble some, but does not eliminate it. Yesterday, there were 2 cars stolen and 3 others broken into in the parking lot -- They were after Hondas this time, and I don't have one, so I was ok. (They always seem to be after one kind of car at a time -- I asked a local cop about that and he said that it just depends on what the local "free-lance" car parts dealers need at the time -- that is what the theives go and get).

Car gun, do I need one?

It depends, how often does your car go shooting?:neener:

Mounting a lockbox in the car sounds like the solution you're lookng for.

I have a friend whose wife had her Beretta 92fs in a lockbox next to her in her minivan. Couple button presses later & she was good to go.
The lock box is your best bet to secure the gun when you have to leave it.

need.
There are two different kinds of needs.
What you need and what your significant other says you need.
And you always need just one more...

In Massachusetts, it used to be a minimum one year in jail and/or $1000 fine to leave a weapon in a vehicle unattended. They just recently changed this; now if you have an LTC class A you can leave an unloaded firearm in a car unattended. I was astonished to hear of this change, usually firearms related news in this state is all bad.

Devonai: You can leave it a car unattended, but it has to be locked up (i.e., meet the storage regulations). Locked in a glove compartment probably won't suffice. Locked in hardcase probably would. I haven't heard of any test cases yet, however.

I heard that the trunk would suffice, but bringing along a lockbox wouldn't be difficult. Still, it's good to see the law swing our way for once.

gun in car

I always promised myself that I would never keep a gun in my car, the reason is, which you should also consider, a while back when I was a little younger I was at a park with my g/f and saw 2 guys acutually break into my car, now if I was carrying at the time(I wasn't because I wasn't old enough) I would have went up to them, however, if I had a gun in my car, they probably would have found it and now they would have been armed, this experience has soured me to keeping a gun my car, I always always keep it on my person, even while driving(what if I am carjacked while driving and can't get it out of the console etc). So anyway, this is just why I am against it.
