I am looking for a good car gun for under $400 that I can leave in the car not worry about it not working when needed.
I looked at semi autos and revolvers and I am partial to semi autos since I prefer more mag capacity.
I liked the Bersa thunder 9,Ruger p95,S&W sigma 40,and the Stoeger cougar but I am having a hard time deciding which one to get any recommendations?

Been using a Stoeger Cougar as a car gun for a while now, got mine for $350. Super reliable even when not really taken care of, never had a single failure out of mine. The Cougar is one of the nicest guns you can get NEW for around or even under $400. Sigmas and Rugers are reliable but the Cougar is the better gun by far IMHO.

Going to be letting go of mine soon, but only so a friend can have his first CCW gun.

+1 on the Cougar as well. One of the best values available today. Excellent design, super reliable & accurate. Thoroughbred Beretta through & through.

My suggestion are the Keltec PF9 or P11. Both can be purchased new for around $235 for the blued models. I hope this helps. God Bless :)

Bersa are great, if not highly-finished.

The Sigma's trigger sucks till you either wear it smooth or send it back to SW for grit... My wife loves her 9VE.

A CZ-82 can be found for the low $200's or less with patience... reliable, tough, and the Makarov cartridge is no joke.

I would look at the deals from Buds, you can find alot of used platforms for the dollar amount you stated.

A standard answer to your post is try before you buy. See what feels comfortable for you to shoot and go from there.

Don't know what part of FL you live in but if your leaving your gun in your car there, in the summer I'm guessing it gets very hot and humid, and depending how far off the coast you are you might have to deal with salt-mist from the ocean or gulf breeze. May I suggest a Glock G26 or G19 if you are looking for a 9mm or a G27 or G23 in .40 caliber which will handle those elements without any worry. You should be able to find any of those for about $475. which is a little over your $400. budget or, if your locked into what you have listed, the Ruger P95 has gotten good reviews and would be a better choice IMHO over the others you listed.

Or go low budget as someone else has suggested and get a Kel-Tec P11. It's reasonably priced so if it gets stolen from your car your not out as much money as buying something else, and since it's a little over half the price of your $400. budget you wouldn't have a problem buying a replacement.

Good Luck with your choice.

I'd think about a police trade in glock or a Makarov. The Mak is cheap and would be easier for me to leave in a car long term, but it is a bit low on capacity. The CZ 82 (?) might be a better pick, same round and approximate size with 12 rounds as opposed to 8 in the Mak.

My "car gun" us the one I'm wearing when I get into the car. Don't have to worry about someone stealing it and shooting an innocent party with MY gun that way.

I'm with David, I carry a pistol. Consider a "car" gun something a bit larger, be it a rifle or shotgun.

SIG 250 in .40 S&W (or 9mm...or .45 ACP).

Full sized, Compact, or Sub-Compact variants.

Available new for a good deal less than $400.

Otherwise...any used Glock.

Leaving a gun in the car permanently is irresponsible

I don't see how it is anymore irresponsible than leaving one in your house.

The OP didn't say what he did or where the car would be. Hard to say without more info, all he said was

I am looking for a good car gun for under $400 that I can leave in the car not worry about it not working when needed.

Depending on what it is for, there are a lot to pick from. None being one of them, I guess.

Glock for handgun, Maverick 88 in 12 guage if you prefer a long gun. Or a good revolver. Good, inexpensive, and reliable guns.

I don't see keeping a gun in your car any less responsible than keeping them in your home. I am not going to reduce my rights because someone might commit a criminal act and take said gun. Why buy a $1000 safe when a $4000 safe is safer?

"a car gun that I can leave in the car" sounds pretty obvious to me. Unless he's leaving the car in the middle of the woods at least 20 miles from another person, it's a bad idea.

I'm not talking about the occasion when you can't carry somewhere and you have to leave it, I'm talking about permanently storing it there. Plus, chances are if you need it you probably won't be able to get to it quick enough.

So, a gun in your gun safe is more better than a gun locked in the trunk of your car? I like an inexpensive but reliable gun in my car. Bet I can get to it at the mall faster than you can go to your gun safe and get your gun.

To each his or her own. If you want more security, use the cable lock that comes with most new guns these days. Still faster to take that off than to drive to your house and unlock the safe.

When I'm out of the house the gun is on my person. If you need a gun at the mall what good is a gun in your trunk?
Well, during times I cannot legally carry a gun, it is in the house, or maybe the car. I see no logical reason not to have the option of a gun locked in my car.
