Car gun...What's the best location?

But I recently changed to my modified Remington M11 12 gauge auto (19" tube, bobbed stock), that now lays across the back seat, 00 Buck loaded tube (empty chamber in compliance with DOW laws), and covered by a jacket.
...a Marlin 45-70 behind the rear seat. (I drive a quad cab Toyota Tacoma.) My only issue is that the long gun is pretty hard to get at from the front seat.

What do you do with the long-guns when you have to leave the truck (or car) to go inside a building?
Seems like it would make a tempting target for thieves.

regardless of the contents of your car it may be a possible target for thieves.given the sheer number of cars out there i doubt most criminals break into an auto with the intent to obtain firearms unless the car has gun stickers all over it.

if you decide to keep a long gun in your car i feel the best option is to find something reliable, easily concealed and most definetly cheap and easily replaceable.

on occasion i keep a folding stock wasr10 with two 30rd mags in the back seat or trunk and my pf-9 lives in the console/on the front seat. if something in my car was stolen i could easily repalce both.

Lay it on the passenger's seat, inside a McDonald's paper bag.
If anyone sees you put your hand inside the bag they'll just think your going for some french fries.

This is actually a better idea than it may sound haha. If all else fails, the next best option is to put it out of view/sight and/or somewhere it would be less likely to be searched.

In my state (Texas) the gun can be anywhere in the car, as long as it is concealed. I drive a pickup with a split seat, so there's a ready-made soft crevice between the seats. Currently I put my handgun between the driver's seat and the rest of the bench seat. When I'm driving my wife's Honda, I put the handgun between the driver's seat and the center console. I can put a cap or newspaper over the part of the gun that may be showing. The gun is always right there by my right leg, just ahead of the seat belt anchor. We have small gun safes under the driver's seat in both the pickup and the car, so if I need to leave the gun in the car I can at least lock it up.

When I took my conceal carry class he suggested one way to have it in "plain sight but not" is having it sitting in a Bible cover/protector on the passenger seat.

I keep mine on ME 99% of the time, but have been in a few situations I slid it muzzle first in a cupholder and lay my ball cap on it to "conceal" it.

I made a center consul for my truck. I made it to locate my sub-woofer, and added a compartment with a lid. Later on I added an aluminum bracket to hold my pistol, holstered or not. I'm going to add a small clip the left side of the center consul of the mini-van so that I can attach my IWB holster to it. That would put it just behind my knee. The perfect spot for me.

I keep meaning to take a picture of it to post here.

Like atticor I live in Texas so I keep my Px 4 Storm subcompact 9mm in a holster attached to the drink holder on the center console in my S 10, I drop a Microfiber towel over it so its concealed.

I also carry my AR 15 behind the seat half-bagged in its case, bolt locked open, dust cover closed and a 20 round mag tucked between the seats. I don't carry it for Self defense, but in case I see a hog out on the farm, though I could grab it from the front seat and shoot easily out the passenger window or windshield should I need to. Pistol would still be the first thing I reached for.

I have grabbed the rifle , had it loaded and out the truck heading towards my shop when it was broken into in less than 30 ish seconds, really freaked my girl out the way I loaded and moved so fast. She didn't have time to call 911 before I had the mag in and hit the release.

My grandpa always just tucked his 1911 between the seat and center arm rest. He could unholster and fire a shot out each window of his S-10 in about 4 seconds.

I've been thinking about how I would do it in my car. I think I would use my center cup holder. The center divider can be rotated out of the way. So, there is plenty of room for a snub nose or pocket pistol. I just worry about what would happen in a wreck.
