Are you heavy?
Justin, I take it you have never had an opportunity to ask a woman if she is armed. :D

**

My carry gun is named "Miss Anne Thrope." I rarely go anywhere without it, but if my husband wonders about it, he will either find an excuse to pat my side, or simply ask if Miss Anne will come with us.

I'm trying... I'm really trying! LMAO :D

I'm in my late 40's. Years ago, growing up in Louisville, I and the rest of our family learned that when at home, if my Dad or Mom said something along the lines of "would you go get Carl?", or "would you tell Carl we have company?", it meant to calmly go get Carl..........Carl Walther. A fine individual with whom we were ALL familiar.

I never thought I needed to let my SO know I'm carrying. But last night we were talking about the student finding the bullet on the bus. She said that the worst thing that would happen to her was to be picked up for throwing bullets. She continued that she'd be throwing them because there wasn't a 9mm around.
I said somthing like are you sure. Then it occued to her that I was.
I normally don't like to let anyone know I'm carrying, but I think I'm going to let her know just to be sure.

May be none of my business, but if you have a CCW and can carry.. why in the world wouldn't you?
My wife doesn't have to ask, if I'm out of the house, I'm armed. When I'm in the house my firearm is never far away.

My SO knows I always carry (since the first time it suprized her).
Others asks if I'm packing or carrying, but its rare that anyone asks.

Like you, carrying is my default setting. I can count on one hand the number of days I've left the house unarmed since I began carrying over five years ago.

The times my husband has wondered if I was carrying were

1) when I was dressed in fancy clothes and he couldn't figure out where I'd stashed it or if I was (unthinkable!) not carrying after all; or

2) when our errands were taking us someplace where I would have to leave the gun in the car in order to be legal; or

3) when our errands were taking us someplace where there were "security" measures in place -- such as a metal detector -- which would make it difficult or impossible to carry.

I've been carrying since '91 and can say with confidence that I have never been out in public without a firearm since I've received my permit.Things are just too weird now days to be in public unarmed. I am responsible for my own life and the security of my wife and daughter, I'm not putting that responsibility on anyone else.
I refuse to let myself or my family be a statistic. Yes, it's heavy, yes it's uncomfy at times, but even more heavy would be carrying around a burdon of knowing that my wife/daughter would still be alive if I did my job of protecting them. Since I have that ability, I never take it for granted.
Nothing would more uncomfy than knowing I had the ability to do something and chose not to carry the tools to get the job done.

[steps on soapbox]
I gotta say it, but if you have a CCW and are within the law to carry it, you should do so always. Don't have to ask if you always have it. Bad things don't always happen at convenient or expected times/locations.
[off soapbox]

That said, I would think that a simple raised eyebrow from her would be all that is necessary, answered by a nod or shake from your head.

That's great.

How did you get into the courthouse to get and then renew your CCW? Did you figure some way around the metal detectors, or did you just decide not to bother following the law?

Do you send your wife to the school to talk to the kids' teachers during conference time, or do you not have kids, or what?

Have you never visited a beach or a public swimming pool in all those years, or do you carry in your swimsuit?

Sorry if I came across as if I was judging your choice of when/where to carry, believe me, I wasn't. I feel pretty strongly about my responsibility(not suggesting you don't, of course) and, after reading it again, I can see how it might appear judgemental..
My sincerest apology.

I'll answer your questions anyway, they are good questions.

How did you get into the courthouse to get and then renew your CCW? Did you figure some way around the metal detectors, or did you just decide not to bother following the law?

We renew our CCW at the local sheriff's dept. that is a stand-alone building a few miles from the courthouse. Our sheriff is very, very liberal with firearm permits(the most liberal in the state) and he pretty much expects that CCW holders are carrying.

Do you send your wife to the school to talk to the kids' teachers during conference time, or do you not have kids, or what?

My oldest just moved to Oregon and my youngest is in a small private school that is not anti-firearm, we usually visit together.

Have you never visited a beach or a public swimming pool in all those years, or do you carry in your swimsuit?

I hate the beach( actually, I hate crowds), but I love to swim. If I want to swim we'll go into the backyard or take the boat out to go wakeboarding.

Crazy as it sounds, there aren't any places I go that don't allow firearms.
I'm self employed(my boss is kind of a judgemental jerk that frequently has a problem expressing himself :p ) and I help a buddy out in the mornings at his firearm store. Other than that, I'm pretty much a homebody. Again, I don't much care for crowds.

No problem, honestly. I really was mostly just curious -- and surprised.

Remainder in PM, to avoid hijacking the thread even worse than I already have! ;)

My wife & I both carry, and I find myself saying things like "Mr Kimber" or "The Taurus" instead of "your pistol"....Non-gunners don't know what that means, and people who do would probably just smile if they overheard it.

My wife knows that if it is legal, I am carrying, and I know that so is she. She is not as faithful about the BUG, but she always has the primary. The friends I have "encouraged" to get a chl know that I carry 24/7 where legal, and some of them have joked about whether I will share the BUG if things start to happen.

Still, I think this is a great idea and plan to discuss it with those friends that "pack". Some "codes" about plans of action, etc. might be very helpful, as well.

Good shootin'....

Mine verifies by touch - move in for a hug to check the shoulder holster, and a casual arm around the waist for a couple seconds then sweep the waistband when she pulls away to check for anything on the belt. Usually she can tell if I have the Beretta in the shoulder holster - I can only conceal it under certain garments, and most of the time that I'm wearing one of those, the CC is riding underneath.

The Swinging Czech Brother. (CZ-75)
If my husband carried a CZ, our code would be me asking him,

"Did you cache that small Czech?"
