i had a poll up before with a very limited assortment or firearms. i want to know in all honesty what people themselves trust in firearms for self defense. what do people trust. whats the gun with all the hype right now? i love my glock 17 and might just get a 19 at the same time i would like the reliability or a revolver like the 642.
let me know what people are carrying nowadays.

I carry this:

A Smith & Wesson Model 59.

got a few

Right now, I have a S&W M&P 9mm. I also carry a Taurus PT 24/7 9mm sometimes. My favorite? A CZ52, 7.62x25 loaded with hollowpoints. Practice ammo is cheap, it always feeds and goes bang, it's accurate and it fits my big hand. Oh yeah, it's uglier'n sin and a ton of fun to shoot.

Any firearm made by a reputable manufactuer; i.e. Sig, S&W, SA, Para, Colt, HK, Walther, BEretta. Etc. What I carry depends on how I am dressed and how I plan to carry. I for the most part carry a Sig P229R.40 and a Sig P6 occasionaly my Beretta 92 and then sometimes my S&W 5903TSW and , have even been know to carry my Bersa .380.

that is my life line

45 ACP, an intimidating barrel to look down upon.

Ruger Alaskan .44, although when the real warm weather gets here I'll probably have to go back to my Sig P239 9mm

I carry a fist and a bad attitude ...

I'd been carrying a mix of CS & pepper spray and a knife for awhile now and carry a Sig GS 1911 sometimes.

I will be carrying one of my Government length 1911's I have 4 of my 12 set up and qualified (by me) to fight. When I am in a 9mm mood, one of my Highpower's instead. (Two of my Highpowers are

My BUG is a S&W 642 with CTC laser grip in 38spl of course. And on rare occasion, my Pocketlite Colt Pony. The Pony doesn't get used much since the Grip cracked. Still shoots reliably.

Your Glocks, in 9mm like yours are Good to Go. Don't worry about any of it. You are over thinking this stuff. Spend more energy and re$ource$ on quality training and quality practice. The difference in any of the many quality fighting guns available today is to small to make a difference to anyone who is trained. A lot like the caliber pissing contest. If you know what you are doing in fight, caliber isn't even a consideration.

Once you are well trained and experienced with practice and training, you will know your personal preferences and needs in a fighting weapon to match the probable threats you will face, and your personal build, and life style. At that time get what you need and want based on your own experience vs some internet Guru with a famous name, or not.

What ever your decision, is you have a very good base weapon right now. Use it and then make these decisions yourself.

Go figure.

is about the gist of it.
For me in FL most of the year it is a j frame in the pocket (638 w/ the +p gold dots made for short barells) or when weather permits clothing that can be layered I bring out the big gun, a Steyr S9 (same size as xd9 SC or M&P9C if your not familiar with it).

I will add the one caveat to the above quote though that most of us are not as well practiced with our little snubbies as we should be (i'm slipping myself too lately).
Also your climate/dress etc may make a difference to you, or if you have the ability and willingness you can just dress around the gun.

I carry a lot of different guns. I always carry a KelTec P32 as a BUG.

My primary carry guns are: top left going clockwise, ParaOrdnanace P12-45, Kimber, Norinco, AMT Hardballer; center, Para Warthog. All in .45ACP.

I have an XD45 Compact that I trust to go bang every single time. In almost two years of ownership and about 2000 rounds through it, it has only had one malfunction (a stovepipe), that was caused by a female first-time shooter limp wristing it. 10+1 or 13+1 is a lotta rounds of .45

OWB - HK P7: fast and accurate
IWB - EG Makarov: reliable and easy to shoot
Pocket - Keltec P32: easy to carry and reliable for me

Guns that I stopped carrying for various reasons:

Walther P5: not reliable
Walther PP: not easy to shoot fast
Beretta 21: replaced by Keltec
Beretta Tomcat: see above
Sig 226: to big!

I alternate between:

Bersa Thunder .380

Springfield XD HC (9mm)

Springfield XD Tactical (.40 S&W)

My choice is based on locations I plan to visit and type of weather and clothes I'll be wearing.

Primary - Ed Brown SF 1911 5"

Occasionally I will carry my 642 and if I'm going to a wedding or a barbecue I carry my 3" 629.

I've been carrying a Kimber Ultra CDP

Kimber_CDP.JPG

Just picked up a Kahr K9 last week that I'll be carrying some too. It's about the same size as the Kimber but no hammer or dovetail which makes it a little easier to conceal in light clothing.

Noting sexy -- a Taurus 85 stainless steel. 38spl, nice and heavy. Bought the gun as a "cheap tackle box gun" but the it shoots exceptionally well to and to the point of aim, and is very reliable, absolutely never fails to go "bang!".

Here are my mainstays.

A Wather PPK/S in .380ACP is my standard daily carry gun. I often carry a Beretta Jetfire in .25ACP as a BUG. Both are highly reliable.

I carry my Taurus 1911 most of the time in a Blackhawk IWB holster. If I cant get by with the 1911 I carry my Taurus 85 .38 spl in a Don Hume IWB holster.

I carry an M1911 -- in this case, a Kimber Classic MKI:

It's utterly reliable.

It's accurate in my hands.

It's close to optimum in power.

It's flat and conceals easily.

If I need a reload, it's fast to load.

My first tour in Viet Nam, I carried a Colt M357 (predecessor to the Python.) That's the only gun I've ever used in a shootout, and it did all I asked, but it's a bit difficult to conceal, and ammo capacity is low.

I sometimes drop a Colt Detective Special in my pocket when going out the door, if I'm not wearing my Kimber.
