28C2A86D-8C0F-48BE-AF3B-13B7F036D584.jpeg I’ve been using an old can of Castrol/Hoppes synthetic a bit and let me tell you what, I actually really like it! Seems to clean and lube well. Only issue is I can’t seem to find any of it ANYWHERE.

Any y’all use it? What do you think? Where do you source yours?

Edit: y’all please stay on track. I’m not interested in motor oil. This post is about this specific item, let’s keep it focused around that mmmk?

I was running out of my various "gun oils" so I bought a quart of Valvoline synthetic. I am almost 64, it should outlast me. I did have my Google-Queen wife find me some small plastic bottles with long needles and I use them for the actual dispensing of both my Shooter's Choice bore cleaner and the motor oil.

Where did you originally find it? I've never seen that product, I would bet it works well.

Wow! You aren’t kidding @daniel craig
I cannot find Hoppe’s Castrol synthetic gun lube anywhere.

I have been using Mobil 1 5W20 synthetic motor oil and Mobil 1 grease on my guns for some time now and it works very well. It stays where you put it. It does not migrate and heat does not seem to affect it. I get my oilers from Amazon.

A few years back I started using air tool oil on firearms and am still amazed how well it works and how easy it is to find and is cheap. Every auto parts and hardware store sells it. It is the perfect weight does not seem to ever evaporate away or turn to varnish. Try some. Dexron ATF works very well and is sold everywhere too. Most "gun oils" have become ridiculously overpriced (for a 4 oz. bottle).

Those are just like the 6 pack my wife got me for about $10...GREAT bottles for getting oil/cleaner into tight/small places!

If someone is just seeking an excellent firearm lube, I'm with the crowd that says grab some synthetic motor oil through a needle-tip bottle. I use Mobil 1 5w20.
If you want a decent CLP at a savings, you can get a gallon of Radco for about $90.

I see the reference to air tool oil and I have wondered about that.
In the last year or so, I had to buy automotive A/C compressor oil and the shop used very little out of the bottle. Anyone know if there is a negative to using this oil on guns or other items? It's PAG 46 refrigerant oil. I'm just too cheap to pitch it, but I will if it isn't safe/useful.

My mechanic gave me a half can of AC oil that he said had been open beyond the shelf life.
It is a light fine oil and I mostly use it to keep the floating chamber of my SM Ace .22 free.
No reason not to use it other places.
