Let me guess...you bought a DPMS and ran it dry with Tapco mags and Tulammo

No sorry I do not have any personal experience with newer ARs. The A1s in the military jammed quite a bit and to be fair I have studied and read about the newer ones (M4s and stuff like that) and the general consensus is they are far more reliable.

My gripe is the AKs never got a fair shake because of their communist origin despite being proven over and over in actual use to be one of the best firearms for their purpose in the world.

Every firearm has it's advantages and disadvantages. I don't get into these petty arguments about what is best since it all depends on what where and how it's being used.

Mikhail Kalashnikov got a bum rap because of politics and is why the AKs disadvantages are trumpeted in surround sound stereo while it's phenomenal advantages are downplayed.

In reality he is reponsible for inventing one of the best and most reliable firearm platforms (AK system) in the world when looked at in it's entirety.

I would think motor oil is used for similar environments (hot firing pistons with lots of carbon in all weather conditions from winter to fall) that gun oil is used in. Automotive oils may be more toxic I think though I am not positive.
