I've had my eye on one of these lovely machines for quite some time. I decided late last yr that I should probably start saving for one. Figured that after 6 yrs of production, Colt would have the bugs worked out, as I had read mixed reviews when the King Cobra first returned to the lineup.
But, as fate would have it, something else came up earlier this yr that put the brakes on me buying it. I mean, call me an idiot, but there's no way I was walking away from a super clean 1984 Redhawk 357 with a 5.5" barrel for $800. Nope, wasn't passing on that, and it looked like I wouldn't be grabbing one of these Targets for a while
Enter this major project we got going on at the shop, and the 7 12s that came with it. I had already put together the funding for the honey do list the misso is demanding this yr, and when that OT hit, well opportunity knocked.
I cut out of work a little early today to go pick up this sweet chunk of stainless and wood. She's blowing all of 40mph out here with rain, so I'll need to wait till tomorrow evening to take my first cracks with it..
I hope I'm not disappointed for the price of admission
Here's my 3rd 357 magnum, and my first snake 20230325_154950.jpg 20230325_154835.jpg

Man those are really nice! Congratulations .

Let us know how it shoots for you when it calms down outside and you get a chance to take it out :).

Stay safe.

Cheers fellas
Yes I think im going to really enjoy this one. The weather of course had to be crap, but no worries. I put the snap caps in and run a few rotations with it.....that certainly is a nice trigger. Like really nice.
I took some time tonight to load up some ammo for it. I'll start it off with some light 357s and run it up about 3/4 throttle and see how she handles. Not planning to shoot full house with this one at all. Just a paper and steel fun gun.
I've liked these for quite a while, and I wanted to get a 357 that was just a touch lighter than the 2 tanks I have. It was between this and a Match Champion, and I believe I made the right choice. Can't wait to take it out back for a session. Gonna be a bit soupy back there tomorrow, so may not get a chance for a few days. But I've a strong feeling I'm going to have a big smile on me face when that first session is thru.

I have three 2020 Pythons and the 3" King Cobra. All have excellent triggers, especially in DA. But the KC has the best trigger of all of them, with a great crisp SA pull. I have never before gotten such a sublime trigger on a production DA revolver out of the box.

Yes, I want the "Target" model. OP, thanks for reminding us how pretty they are and how much we all need one. Enjoy!

Oh no worries. And don't think alot of you out there didn't influence this decision. I've got a feeling I wouldn't be as happy with the Match Champ, but I always know what I'm getting with a Ruger. Colts new territory for me. I wanted to get the new Python when they first hit the shelves, but hearing some of the issues, and the fact that they were going for upwards of 2k at the time, that put me off a bit and I decided to go for my all time grail gun, a Freedom 83. I'll be honest, this KC trigger single action is right there with that 83, and that has the factory action job. It pulls 3lb, and this Colt isn't much heavier. Double is smooth as silk. I now know what all of you have been talking about these last couple yrs. They don't come much better out of the box.
Hopefully get thru this "half day" and maybe take a couple cracks with it tonight. We'll see how we go

try some old Colts! they are sweet!

My dealer had what he called a first run Detective Special 2", and it was in very very good condition. I was very interested, then he dropped the number on me. He wanted more than I gave for this one. Don't get me wrong, it was pristine. But I'm eventually going to add a carry revolver to my lineup, and I certainly wouldn't want to carry that beautiful piece around

Neither am I, but my nephew got himself a king cobra recently, too. A King Brown Cobra....Northern Territory, Aus.....gotta be on guard when I'm down on a visit, especially when going out for a whiz at night...

No offense intended brother, but seriously ...

Only in the Oz, the venomous snake capitol of the world, would the world's second most deadly elapid be named the Common Brown Snake! And a protected species to boot!

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eastern_brown_snake

Colt might consider naming a new revolver Taipan, Adder or Tiger, but somehow I don't see a Brown snake gun in our future.

I finally got a chance to get out back and take a few cracks with this thing. I must say, it is rather impressive. I went right after a load that my Freedom 83 shoots right good, 11gr of 7 under 125 xtp, and this Colt here shot it pretty fair for offhand, 25 yards. I've got to play with the sights a bit as i had to hold a bit high on the bull, but my final target of the day with it wasn't bad, with 2 in the same hole, and a lowball from trying the last one double action. It certainly is a fine shooter right out of the box, the only thing better out of the box, well, it had darn well better be, is my 83.
The only downside was the thread a few days after I bought the thing about another broken new Cobra. Hopefully I can avoid those gremlins with this one, and I sure ain't gonna sweat it. But I certainly won't be considering a KC Carry for a carry revolver.
Nice little piece, I'm happy with it. Reckon if these first impressions hold, it was worth the price of admission.
Still too wet out here to get the tractor out and set the benches, but the ponds full. This revolver is soaking , think I'll throw a Mepps on and see if one those lunkers is hungry.........

A current production Python is my first Colt revolver. I hope you like yours as much as I like mine. It shoots great.

I've added a couple new production Anacondas since. Something to aspire to.
Yes!
I bought an early production 3" KC and it went back to Colt one time.
Bought a new 4.25" Python and it, too went back to Colt once.
Juts picked up a new Anaconda today. We'll see if we can get one of of three without a trip back to Momma.
