Well, me and my shooting buddy were sitting in class today when our teacher approached us and said she had a question. Apparantly, the Omaha shooting and recent armed robberies in our city have convinced her that she needs a CCW Permit. Her question was what handgun we would recommend for her. This will be kept in a purse and she is not the kind of lady that could handle an airwieght .357Mag. Please post your suggestions.

If she is unfamiliar with handguns Glock would not be as good of a choice as a bobbed revolver such as the Ruger SP 101.
Folks who are not familiar with the manual of arms of an auto loader are better off learning first on a revolver.
It is a wonder to me why some folks think Glock is always the answer. What if the lady does not have the strength to rack the slide?

The women in my life (mostly daughter-in-laws) all started this way...:)

a quality snubbie in 38+p or maybe even a 327mag SP101, with lots of practice. and I have to say you are lucky to have a teacher that cool and that respects your opinion.

Have you two thought of doing the real gentlemanly thing of taking her out shooting with a variety of weapons so she can make a more informed choice on what kind of weapon she should purchase ??

Me and my shooting buddy are going to. My only problem is that I am not a pistol man, I prefer rifles. However, he is an avid pistol shooter and a better shot with them than me.

If she is willing to learn how to clear jams and can safely and quickly load and unload an autoloader, I'd say a CZ 2075, Glock 26, or M&P 9mm Compact. See what fits her hand best.

If not, a S&W 637, 638, or 640 J-frame. If she can control 38 +P, fine, if not, there's no shame in plain .38 Special.

Be sure to send her to www.corneredcat.com.

If she's a new shooter, I would recommend a Smith 642, if money is an issue, than a Taurus 651. Keep things as simple as possible until she's had more experience. Now if she is a seasoned shooter, that is a whole other matter:D
