CCI Shotshells Discontinued?

Sorry if this has been covered, but have these been discontinued?

Most often I have a Kel-Tec PF9, it's the overall best compromise for a ccw for me - reliable, concealable, light, powerful, inexpensive & easy to carry. Ideal for me.

Walking around the place I have a couple of 9mm shotshells in the magazine but Midway and Brownells show them discontinued!!

If so, are the other calibers still available?
 
No, they don't, but they don't need to for my uses. Hand cycling is fine, after the first one if another is needed the snake isn't going anywhere very fast. BTW, I only shoot venomous snakes and then only if they are near the house.

Only auto snakeshot I know of to cycle an auto is CCI .45 in Star PD pistols - they do cycle quite reliably.

I know the CCI site lists them, but nobody has any...and most say they've been discontinued by mfr.
 
CCI commercially loads the Speer shot capsules...

Cut out the middle man, buy the capsules, and load your own...

Or you can load shot the way some of us do with a cut over-powder card, a few grains of fast powder (I use Red Dot, THIS INFO IS FOR .357 ONLY), some shot borrowed from a promo load shogun shell, and an over-shot card sealed with a little school glue...

There are some pistols the stuff will cycle in, most don't.

After three hits on a Diamondback from about three feet away failed to kill it, I stopped carrying snake shot and went back to the old fashioned way of shooting behind the head.
 
I'm really only interested in learning whether or not CCI still makes 9mm and other shotshells.

However...

Speer doesn't make 9mm capsules that I know of.

I'd prefer to keep using the Kel-Tec. The home-grown method isn't too useful for 9mm or other autos, the brass is too short. Also I use very few of them so it isn't worth the time involved. Are there venemous snakes in Vermont?

CCI 9mm shotshells kill reliably in my experience within their range, which is somewhat farther than 3 feet. If a followup solid is needed it can be taken at leisure as the snake won't be moving. I don't know anyone who can reliably hit a moving snake behind the head with a handgun from a safe distance. Lastly, a shotshell removes the likelyhood of ricochet to any distance.

I had a bad experience with their .45LC shot loads. Fired a couple shots and the gun got tied up because the cases were a little undersized and slipped back & forth in the cylinder. The target was nicely chewed up, but if they make the gun unreliable I'll take the extra couple seconds for a hit with a regular bullet.

just substitute "snake" in for "man in black with"
 
The CCI snakeshot cycles just fine in my stock SW40VE. Patterns well at reasonable distances. But man are they LOUD!!!

Don't have pics of all the rattlers I've shot, since you're talking about 9mm; in the grass is the sight picture I had of rattler coiling back and getting ready to strike, by the front door:

I had returned from town and was still carrying my Browning Hi-Power loaded with 124gr HSTs, sun had set and light was fading fast. The BHP is a superb pointer, since the Mojave rattler was coiled, shot took its head off and broke its spine underneath where the head was:

Mojave rattlers are the bad boys of the desert, actually North America. Their venom is toxic to both the blood and nervous systems; all rattler bites in Arizona require immediate ER treatment.

Timing the shot is critical when stepping toward an aggressive rattler, typically the shot is single handed and w/o sights. Given the four legged vermin here, snake shot in the chamber is not recommended. :)

+1 I see far too many people shooting non venomous snakes for no other reason than "its a snake kill it".

Yes, Timber Rattlers...But they are protected...

What we do have are lots of farms with rat problems, bunnies in gardens, red squirrels in the eaves of our houses, cocky grouse sitting on a branch tempting us during deer season, etc...

'Snake Shot' is called 'Rat Shot' around here, and people I know load them a 'tad' warmer than CCI does...In fact, the load recipes that come on the box of the Speer Capsules are really warm compared to the bland CCI fodder...

I load a mix of 6 and 8 shot, and get more weight in a .357 case than CCI does in the Speer capsules they load...

15-20 feet on a rat is perfectly possible with my .357 loads, and add another 5+ feet for my .44 Mag loads...

There are posts around here somewhere from a guy that makes 'shotshell' cases from .357 Max, and .445 for his revolvers...They are full length of his cylinders, and hold lots more shot...

I'd love a dozen of each, but as of yet have not fallen into the cases...
 
This link from Midway shows them discontinued. Midway seems confused? Or perhaps there is a different version available in January.

Yes, they are different versions of shot size and quantity. Looks like CCI has pared their shotshell line down.

This species has a state natural heritage rank of S1 (rare). The Timber Rattlesnake has been designated a Species of Greatest Conservation Need (high priority) in Vermont’s Wildlife Action Plan and is endangered in Vermont. Please report all sightings of this species in Vermont. Take photos if possible. Even historic sighting information is useful.
