Hey all, I know how much we've all be drooling over the new Ruger SR-9. Just got an email from a friend of mine who subscribes to the newsletter for the local gunstore:

On Saturday, October 20th
9AM - 4PM

The CEO of the
Ruger Firearms Company,
Mike Fifer

Will be at Larry's to show
A TOTALLY NEW RUGER Pistol
with Samples on Hand to Shoot
FREE OF CHARGE

The design and manufacture of this Pistol has been kept totally secret
and Ruger's Top Man, CEO Mike Fifer,
has chosen the customers of Larry's to be among the
VERY FIRST to shoot this revolutionary Gun

Be among the first to shoot this pistol, on Saturday, FREE of charge.

Also, we will have special pricing for pre-orders of our first
shipments of this new Ruger pistol.

DownRange.tv has just been authorized, by Ruger, to show
their video and commentary on this revolutionary new pistol.

Basically if any of you are in the north Alabama area/Huntsville area, the CEO of Ruger will be at Larry's Pistol and Pawn on North 231 in Huntsville showing off the pistol and allowing free test fires.

Two of my best friends and I will be there around the noon-ish time frame and if any fellow THRers can make it and would like to meet some other THRers/gun enthusiasts from the N. Alabama area: I'll be wearing a "Guinness Beer" ball cap with natural basket-weave on the bill (I know it sounds hideous but it is distinctive so noone will miss me) and we'll be there in the 11:30-12:30ish time frame.

edit: mods if this is in the wrong forum and belongs in the rallying point, would you be so kind as to move it.

yeah the day they released that info I spent about an hour at work looking at everything I could find and then when I got home sat down and watched all the videos I could find (can't watchem at work....I work on post)....

This just may bump the 870 and sp101 off the top of my "list-of-guns-to-buy-when-not-broke" (aka tax season). Much will depend on what the gun feels like when I get to see and hopefully shoot it tomorrow.

I'm not really impressed by it that much... I have my polymer gun (XD-9), and it does its job. I'm sure this one will too, it just does nothing for me. Shooting it for free might change my mind. We'll see.

ah....well I don't have a poly gun yet and I'm hoping this one will work out. If not I'll go with an M&P or the 4" XD-45 down the road.

All I want to know is when my Ruger stock will start paying dividends again. Just got my property tax bill and any additional checks in the mail can only help.

Like the little old lady in the Burger King ad said, "Where's the beef?"

The local shop here has one. $469.

I found the trigger gritty and the reset seemed long compared to a Glock. Maybe it improves with use. The manual safety was fairly easy for me to use without changing grip hold.

The gun is slim overall and has a nice grip. It's a rather large gun in terms of length and height. Especially for a 4" barrel 9mm. Definitely a G17 size gun, though more rounded on it's edges.

Doesn't look like much to me, but I don't care for Ruger autos, just their wheelguns. It looks like much of the same, just tweaked a little and striker fired. It will have to be much better than first impression to beat out the XD for me. AC

Sorry I didn't get to see anyone at Larry's, but I must say after getting to shoot the SR-9 I'm very impressed. It seems to point very naturally and I personally love the trigger on it not to mention that the backstrap really does swap as easily as they say and it really does make as big a difference as they say. To me the trigger seems a bit more crisp with a hair less takeup than the XD but not as short as most 1911s. Aside from all that the main thing I couldn't get over is in my hands, particularly with the flat backstrap side out, this 18rd 9mm feels TINY...absolutely MINUSCULE.

According to the guys at larry's they will have some early production models (#1-2000) for $499 and it comes with an engraved knife. Later on they will have later production runs for $399. :what: :what:
