I picked up an XD mod 2 sub compact in .45acp because it was on sale as a bit of a impulse buy (A really good black Friday deal I recall). I was so impressed with it that it has become my home defence gun.
I like that with a full height magazine it holds 13 +1 rounds of .45acp and handles like a full size pistol. With the flush magazine I still get 9 +1 rounds and it slips into a robe pocket easily if I am taking the trash out or other chore. I was shocked at how nice the trigger is, not too light like my match 1911's but smooth and easy to shoot. I also really like the extra safety of the grip safety without having to work a manual safety. There is just enough bottom rail for a light which I had mounted for a while then removed.
When I go to the range I prefer metal guns but for me the XD mod 2 sub-compact in 45acp is a perfect home defence pistol for how I like to use a home defence gun. I have found the light weight and small size to be quite and advantage over the Beretta 92 INOX it replaced in the go to home defence pistol roll.
