Hi all. I have been laying up quite a bit of the Wolf 223 Ammo up against the possibility (or probability) that prices will go up a lot higher in the coming years and I would rather buy it now. My Olympic AR always handled the Wolf stuff just fine but I traded away my upper for a Model 1 Sales upper and this past weekend it had problems extracting the Wolf. I dont mind cleaning my rifle after every shoot but I DO want some reliability. What do you folks see as being the cheapest brass alternative to Wolf?

Check out AIM. They have Guat "grade two" ammo for 208.00 for a 1440-round case. True M193-spec ammo, just not pretty. They also have Radway Green SS109-type ammo for a good price. It also comes with some nice nylon bandoliers and stripper clips.

Your problem ain't your choice of ammo, it's your upper (barrel).

Replace it with a quality barrel that's chrome-lined and has a milspec chamber. Your problems will go away.

Some of the Brit 5.56 ammo is crap, too (like the 'British Aerospace' marked green vinyl bags of SS109 62gr ammo) - really anemic, appears tuned to cycle the dismal SA80 rifle without it breaking. It may or may not reliably cycle a properly configured AR15...

winny 45 grain, white box 40 round is about 10 bucks a box. black hills blue box 50 rounds is 11 to 13 bucks a box, pending on when and where you get it.

What type of upper should I look for? Any particular brand or just any with a chrome lined barrel? I really would like to have a reliable upper for my AR that can eat the Wolf consistently like my original Olympic did.

I do want a Flat Top upper that I can mount my flip up front and flip up rear site on. I dont like the standard front sight post.

What would be the opinions of this upper?
