Wolf .223

I had a failure to extract, that required a rodding at a class, but the gun was very hot, and very dry. Ripped a piece of the rim off. I'm running it again this weekend at a longer class. It will be much wetter this time. I'll report back if I have any issues.

ammoman.com has Wolf M193 ammo that is made in Serbia.

I believe it is brass cased rather than the usual steel cased ammo that Wolf ususally sells.

I recall when Wolf first hit the market; many were worried that the steel cases would ruin extractors, bolts, chambers, and anything else that you can imagine. (Possibly forgetting in the process that steel cases are not unusual and have been used in American military small arms in the past, and didn't cause all those problems.) The cases are the last thing that I'm worried about.

I won't speculate on the Olympic issue. I've seen a preban Oly that runs it fine and I saw a later Oly that wouldn't run it at all. My Fulton Armory shoots it reliably and is not chrome lined. I use a chamber brush whenever I clean and I clean it every time that I shoot it; perhaps it's just a matter of being more careful with maintenance? I'm not sure. It's dirty, but I don't recall ever shooting anything in my AR (or an M-16, for that matter) that I'd call "clean." It's an AR. They foul a lot. That's just the way it is.

I did notice very minor frosting the last time that I did a major decoppering of the bore after several years of cleaning with CLP. I suspect that a very early batch of Wolf (as that was almost all that I'd shot through it) but I can't be sure. I've heard that the first few lots were mildly corrosive, even though not really advertised as such. As such I'm reluctant to buy more of it, although I still shoot it if that's all that's available or (as in this case) I have a lot of it laying around. It's no longer my first choice until I find out more about just what happened.

The smell is a valid complaint.

Same thing happened. I didn't clean it from the week before, so it had about 300-400 rounds worth of yuck in it. I did lube before the class started. It worked fine until it got real hot, then a FTE. Tore a piece of the rim off. This was around 600-800 rounds into the class. Didn't bother with the butt to the ground clearing way this time, and just rodded it out. Pulled the bolt wiped it all off quickly, lubed generously, and shot the rest of the class fine. At least 3 others were using it too, and they had no problems, other than 1 guy had a few light primer strikes.

Wolf will wear out your AR quicker.

Only because you can afford to shoot it more though

I've sent thousands of rounds down range in various guns. All w/o a problem. Sure I can remember 1 or 2 misfires, but with the amount of Wolf my freinds and I have shot that's not a concern to me.

I ran 1000 rounds of Wolf through my Model 1 kit gun without cleaning the bolt or carrier..........no failures.

If I believed everything on the internet, I would never have tried such an impossible feat.

My experience with Wolf...

For me, it extracted fine, and ejected fine. but it wouldn't chamber the next round. The gun went like this... one shot.. two shot... three shot... click.

it did this about three different times. so I used remington. and it was fine after that.

i woudnt use wolf in a semi like a fine ar , or another semi with a match chamber, but anything else is fine. just dont heat her up too fast, the lacquer is a mother to clean sometimes.

Eh, use it in whatever you want. I'm pretty sure the new stuff is polymer coated so the laquer shouldn't be an issue. IF your gun can't handle soft steel cased ammo, *** good is it anyway? I wouldn't want a firearm that couldn't shoot steel cased ammo unless it had a SPECIFIC purpose. For ANY general purpose semi-auto carbine, it had better.

I run Wolf some in my custom Clark Gator without issue. I've bump fired 100 rounds of the stuff inthe kit gun and nothing came off to gum of the chamber.
That's all with the new polymer stuff, though.
