Once again, the stupid politicians are ignoring the true issues and knee-jerking to put a different, but not new, spin on the worst awards they so richly deserve. Chicago Mayor Daley has issued a statement that I caught part of on the news last night. His reaction to the city being named, once again, the murder capital of the entire nation, is to sue the gun industry. What I heard was his proclamation that certain guns are made only to kill and maime people, and have no interest to the military, or collectors, or legitimate gun owners. Legitimate gun owners in Chicago? Who are they? That unfair city already has the toughest gun owner/carry/possession laws anywhere. Cops from other Illinois towns aren't even allowed to carry in Chicago, so truly the bumper sticker situation now exists in Chicago. They've outlawed all the guns, so now, only the outlaws have the guns, and enough of them to murder more people per capita than any other city in the United States! So, now, the politicians are not satisfied with outlawing the guns, they want to drive the gunmakers out of business, so no guns will be made. What kind of stupid convuluted thinking is that, and who will it help? Will it help the unarmed citizen, (po po code word "subject" or "victim") defend himself? Will it increase the number of po po to protect every person 24/7? Will it help the very real situation of every victim of every crime, everywhere, that you are your own best defense for the first 3-10 minutes of any situation? Will it decrease the number of "illegal" firearms that are currently on the streets, in the hands of those who, according to the laws of Chicago, shouldn't have a gun and can't legally possess one? And who is Richard Daley to tell me, a collector, which guns I can be interested in? Do I have to ask his permission to be interested in a certain gun? No, I don't, because I don't live in Illinazi. Why do you think we, their neighbors to the East, refer to them as F.I.P.s? :fire: :fire:

I wish that all firearm manufacturers would refuse to anything to Chicago's police department. See how long it took them to change their tune.

That's a very interesting concept.

Step 1: What kind of guns does the CPD currently use? Write them letters urging them to refuse to accept any orders for parts and/or maintenance.

Step 2: Get the names of all the manufacturers/distributors named in Daly's suit, and urge them not to offer any bids on any future contracts with the City of Chicago.

Tell me if I'm wrong, but didn't Chicago already try and fail in a suit like this?

It's always somebody else's fault with representatives of the Democratic (sic) party and small children; the difference is that most small children grow up.

GGgggggggggaaaarrgggghhhhhhhh!

Does anything good come out of that blighted city? No offense to any Chicago resident.

This is a reason to fight gun control everywhere not just in your home area and at the national level. The totalitarians will extend their reach beyond their personal domain and wrek havoc in freer lands.

i think the gun manufacturers should sue the mayor of Chicago for defamation and libel/slander (can't remember which one involves speech). Saying that a certain gun made by a certain company is only made to kill people is definitely an attempt to do nothing but make them look bad and hurt their representation. There are plenty of recreational uses for any gun that is currently available to the public and I don't think it'd be that hard to show that the mayor's statements were made with full knowledge of this and this jerk's main motive was to make them look bad.:fire:

certain guns are made only to kill and mame people
Hmmm .... well two buzz words ... ''kill'' and ''mame'' .... possibly ''assault'' was in there too somewhere. Guaranteed shock-the-sheeple fodder!!

So .. these ''certain'' guns? ...... I mean if you go to the bottom line ... malevolent useage of a gun (any gun) can cause death and/or maming. Or is this just a veiled ref' to ''assault'' without actually using the word.

Daley is one screwed up ...... ___________ ...... space to fill in your own word!!

if ever there was a need for a California-esque recall election, this is it! first that SOB tore up Meigs field in the middle of the middle of the night, which has been a huge issue for us pilots, even those of us that don't live there. then he pulls MORE of this type of BS. i would just loooooove to see the gun industry stop selling guns and parts to Chicago AND sue the hell out them for the above mentioned reasons. Daley is monsterous danger to his constituents and to the US as a whole! how in the hell do Chicago restrain themselves from charging at city hall with torches and nooses? amazing....

How much of a gun market is still left in Chicago?

I could see gun manufacturers and dealers in this gun-blighted city to try a grand and glorious experiment. Leave the Chicago gun market for a period of 3 years, and see if their homicide rates go down as compared to the previous 3 years.

Then after the 3 years, we can make an assessment as to whether gun control works or not. Also, after the 3 years, we can say that here, the politicians were using citizens as experimental subjects. :D

Time for Atlas to Shrug Chicago style.
Others have hit the nail on the head.

Have Bill Clinton schedule a national news press conference for downtown Chicago and announce that All arms and ammunition mfg. shall immediately lay off providing anything (parts to primers) to anyone within the City of Chicago or Cook County limits and request that the city set up roadblocks into the city/county to inspect each vehicle and confiscate any and all guns, parts or ammo headed that way (lest they use the old "Its Indiana/Wisconsin's fault" dodge)... They could also recommend that the City/County LE Agencies conduct door to door sweeps looking for any firearms or ammunition hidden within households within those same limits...

Of course, this would also naturally mean that there would be Nothing new for any of the LE Agencies (I'm sure the Feds would exempt themselves); they've gotta use what they've got on hand now as nothing else would come in, in way of ammo or parts to fix the arms they now have, ever.

Daley's machine, along with the Brady Bunch/MMM would have spasms of delight...

The Clinton/Daley/Brady 21st Century Nobel Peace Prize Winning Chicago Pacification and Future UN Small Arms Reduction Plan...

Kids... its a winner! Who can possibly lose?

That'd stop the murders... right?:scrutiny:

sigh

Never happen, what with Anti-Trust laws and a few Constitutional type thingies and all, but hey, a burro can dream can't he? ;)

Chicago is one of the really great cities to visit. I was there just last weekend. Went to the Art Institute (saw a great impressionist seascape exhibit) and the Field Museum (saw Sue the biggest T-Rex) and ate dinner at the best German restaurant outside of Deutchland, The Burgoff. Chicago has great public transportation, a magnificent skyline and architecture, Lake Michigan, the harbors, the Planetarium, shopping, I could go on and on.

But I sure would not want to live there. Chicago has, and has always had, some of the wackiest politics and laws on the planet. Frankly, as a down state citizen of Illinois, I wish Chicago would just secede from my state. Most of my state taxes go into that urban infrastructure. Even our esteemed Governor chooses to live in Chicago instead of our supposed capitol Springfield. Without Chicago, Illinois would be a nice Iowa kind of place.

Mayor Daley is a kook for sure. A chip of his old man's block.

The sad truth is that Chicago is becoming MORE powerful in Illinois, not less. Daley and Mell have effectively taken over the state government as well, now, through Blagojevich and with the help of a lot of state legislators. It isn't just the Governor who lives in Chicago--that's just the easiest joke to make.

On the contrary, most of the heads and highest management of most state agencies now work out of Chicago most of the time. As one downstate legislator put it, "When you make a phone call to get something done at a state agency now, you're calling a Chicago number."

if ever there was a need for a California-esque recall election, this is it! first that SOB tore up Meigs field in the middle of the middle of the night, which has been a huge issue for us pilots, even those of us that don't live there. then he pulls MORE of this type of BS. i would just loooooove to see the gun industry stop selling guns and parts to Chicago AND sue the hell out them for the above mentioned reasons. Because, whether we want to believe it or not, the vast majority up there really love the smarmy little SOB. He gets elected in landslides. Tell yourself that's all dead Democrat voters if you want, but if we're being honest we have to admit that most of Chicago thinks Daley is a hoot.
Oddly enough, just because they vote for him doesn't mean they respect him. In my experience, most don't, but they think he's funny and they really, truly enjoy their reputation for corruption up there. The rest of the state is much the same when it comes to our governors. I can't explain it.

Don, it's not just the governor that's crooked it's poltics at all levels in Illinois. It doesn't matter which party either. I think the coming fiscal crisis is going to wake a lot of people up. The state is about to be drowned in a sea of red ink almost as big as California's. 75 years of dirty politics at all levels state wide is about to blow up. Massive tax increases will destroy what business climate is left in the state. We have no provision to recall or put legislative initiatives on the ballot. Daley and Mell better figure out some way to bail their boy out or the state will go under during his administration.

Jeff, with all due respect to the down state....

folks in Illinois....I hope that you are right!:)

I lived next door in Indiana for nearly thirty years and watched the rot creeping south into the state from the "west coast" of Lake Michigan.

It would be pleasant indeed to see Daley's corrupt and bloated machine crash with all hands on board.:D

I'll be making a trip to Chicagoland this weekend, and thanks to the wonderful mayor I'll be leaving my HK in Indianapolis. I sure hope Chicago's finest are prepared to protect my life, since they obviously feel I'm not trustworthy enough to carry in their county. Not even in my own personal vehicle. :banghead:

It's just one more reason why I hate Chicago.

Step 1: Have no idea. But if the company decided to cut them off, Ruger would be more than happy to fill in.

Step 2: See step one.

Based upon the first time that Chicago tried to sue gun manufacturers, I decided that I would not engage in any leisure travel or activities within the city limits. It wouldn't hurt to have more people do the same.

FWIW,

certain guns are made only to kill and mame people

I didn't know that Chicago only arms their police so they kill and mame people. I think the citizens of Chicago should sue Mayor Daily and the city assembly for this outrage. The police are there to protect and serve, not kill and mame.

I'm willing to bet that the Police in Chicago don't see handguns the same way Mayor Daily does.

Chicago Mayor

I know New York, Baltimore, Cleveland, Detroit and many others have tried this tactic before, and to my knowledge, NONE has made it to an actual trial without being summarily dismissed or dropped by the petitioners before getting that far. Course, that wasn't someone who owns all the courts and judges and lawyers and COULD have a preconceived decision before they even start.........I believe it was Shakespear who said "First thing we do is kill all the lawyers..." (Members of this forum excepted!) If there are any lawyers in this forum, I do know that this quotation is taken way out of context and actually was a compliment to the effectiveness and diligence of lawyers to prevent tyrants from taking over the world. So where are all the lawyers in Chicago, trying to keep the tyrants from taking over the world?

Chicago Mayor.....

Yeah, I guess you're right El Tejon. It was kind of a stupid question when I just said up above that this GUY owns the courts, judges and lawyers. I bet that lawyer down in Florida, just before Christmas, wishes HE was able to carry a gun to defend himself with, donchya reckon? Right in sight of the po po and still couldn't help himself, and neither could they. I bet something with a 4 in front of it would have helped! If there is actually anybody that can find out what Chicago Police Dept carries, I'll write to them, myself. But then, somebody said, Ruger will take up the slack. Maybe it's worth a try just for the publicity of the public outcry. (At least OUR part of the public!) We can cc Chicago Tribune and Sun Times. Any takers for the research?

Chicago PD are allowed to carry S&W, Sig 226, Beretta 92D, and Ruger's. All in 9mm and DAO. Shotguns are Remington 870's. All cadets start off with 9mm but have the option to carry .45s after a while on the streets. Striker fired guns are currently not allowed but the Glock in 9mm and .40S&W are being tested -again. Officers that carried revolvers before the transition to semi-autos had their wheelguns grandfathered in. Tactical Units are testing out HK MP5's. Chicago HBT (Hostage Barricade Terrorism) AKA SWAT team use their "street guns" mounted with surefire lights, 870's with sure-fires, remington 700's in 223 and .308, and full auto Bushmaster M4's with all the bells and whistles.
