I shot a friend's Glock 26 the other day and was impressed with its accuracy, low recoil, and terrific shootability - I was impressed, as I don't usually like Glocks that much (a CZ fan). I'm trying to choose between the G26 and the new S&W M&P compact in 9mm, but I've heard of magazine release problems. I like the better M&P ergonomics and buying an American product, but the G26 was impressive. Any input appreciated. Thanks!

there both good guns but i have heard that the m&p is starting to have jam problems with there mags not chambering the last 2 rounds.. i'd look into it. but i'm sure its nothing.

I have a full-size M&P40 and I completely love it. I have put over 2300 rounds down-range with not a single problem.

I have heard that the jam problems are only with the M&P45. The M&P9 did have problems, when it first came out, but I think everything has been fixed (that's on the full-size guns). The compact M&Ps have had issues with the mags dropping, so I have heard. I don't know how well that has been fixed by S&W.

I think, if you really liked the G26 and you shoot it well, you should go for that gun!

P.S. This is coming from a guy who does not like Blocks. It sounds like you do like them, and that is all that matters.

I have both.

And I can ensure you, that even when you own both, the question you pose will still haunt you.

:uhoh: ;)

They are both great guns. The G26 is unbelievably accurate, but not as comfortable in my hand as the M&P9c. However the G26 has been completely reliable, while the M&P9c had to go back to the mothership after only a few hundred rounds because the mag release was binding and not locking the magazine into place.

Smith did the following to appease little 'ol me:

  • Emailed me a UPS Next Day Air label
  • Repaired the gun in 6 days
  • Installed, completely free of charge, a set of night sights (on their tab :D)
  • Mailed gun back to me via UPS Next day Air

Total turnaround time was 10 days. Not bad for a repaired pistol with free night sights.

Needless to say, I was impressed with Smith's customer service.

No matter what you choose, you can't go wrong.

Get the G26. I haven't heard hardly any bad remarks about it ever. I do also like the M&Ps but they are a little newer and not nearly as proven. I have the G36 and when the M&P 45 compact comes out I will defnitely be considered that also. Good luck and enjoy.

ANY QUESTIONS????

We are Glock.
Resistance is futile.
You will be assimilated!!!

I have both. I thought the Glock was awesome until I bought the M/P for my girlfriend. The trigger pull on the S&W is smoother, and the gun itself is more ergonomic for me and my girlfriend. The only problem with the Glock is that sometimes the last empty cartridge will go straight up in the air and land on your glasses, head, or go down your shirt. The S&W has about 600 flawless rounds thru it so far. It's a shame we will have to do more field testing this weekend.

not to hijack the thread but if you're going to consider those 2, i think you have to consider the XD Subcompact. I would say they're all very similar, excellent firearms.
Glock and XD have a longer/better track record (Glock's being longer, of course)
M&P is new kid on the block but getting great reviews. little early for me to jump on that wagon, though.

I've never fired the M&P compact, but the one I held did feel really nice in my hands.

But for now I am sticking with the Glock 26 for a sub-compact semi-auto. It's a proven design that just plain works.

It does not hurt that magazines are reasonably priced, there are lots of accessories and tons of holster for CCW.

Glock 26 for me, but the M&P compact did feel good in my hands.

The Glock 26 is just a proven platform with tons of accessories and many CCW holsters.

i say get the glock. i don't really like the mini glocks but the 26 is the only one that i would have. they have been around a long time and they work.

Ok so I am biased as an M&P owner BUT I have shot both also here in Portland the PD just had there limits on BUG's changed so they can no longer carry anything larger than a 9mm for back up (they use to be able to use anything from .380-.45acp). I know several guys trading their G27's for MP9c's if LEO preference means anything.

Go w/ the G26 -- proven reliability, magazine compatabity w/ 19, 17 & 18 (if you can find or even carry using 33 round mag  ) and IMO, better choice ;)

the 26 has more aftermarket parts and accesories as well. mags are cheap and holsters are plentiful from every maker.

Is it just me, or is there something weird about seeing denfoote's twin glocks in all their black tactical glory on top of my great grandmother's flower table cloth?

Ok, back to the point. I like both, looked at both, looked at the M&P full size, Glock 19, M&P compact, and the G26.

Bought the 19. About to buy the 26, as well.

As I've said before, if for no other reason - 33rd mags

Aside from that, as others have said, longer track record, more accessories, cheaper mags, etc.

HOWEVER, I don't think you can go wrong w/ either one, seriously. BUY THE ONE YOU WANT and/or shoot better. I shot the 19 best out of all of them, so I bought it, knowing I may also want to get the slightly smaller 26 in the future.

I shoot IDPA w/ it, it was my first hand gun as of this spring, have put over 3k rounds through it, no issues, no FTFeed/FtFire, nothing nadda zippo

I have 6 15rd mag for it and 2 33rd mags for it so far. Mine came w/ night sights, a tac light, and 4 of those 6 mags, as well as extended mag and slide controls....

Look up the sizes of each, the M&Pc may feel a little better, and it is a little bigger, the G26 is the smallest of the lot.

One consideration, unless something has changed, the M&P C does have a light rail on it, whereas the 26 does not. One reason I bought the 19, it was in between the M&P and the M&PC, and it had a light rail, and was the best shot for me personally. This first gun neeed to be HD capable, and I wanted night sights and a mounted light. Rather have it and not need it, than need it and not have it, etc.

So, if you want a tac light maybe lean toward the M&Pc, or the G19. However, if the light is not an issue, and it's a toss up, see which one you can get a better deal on, w/ whatever you want on it.

I think no matter which one I bought, I'd probably by at least 1 or two more of the same family. Like the Glock, I believe the M&P has interchangable mags w/ the Compact version. So I would like to have in my case, the G19, and the G26, then whichever one I like the most, I'd buy a second one of those, so for a total of 3 guns in the same family, all using the same mags (larger ones in smaller guns anyway, for back up mags), so I can not only consolidate my round purchases, but mag purchases.

I already have extra 15 rd mags in the house, and in each car, and extra 33rd mags in the house, and my primary vehicle. I can build on that platform, then when I buy additional family versions, I don't have to change a thing, no matter what I'm carrying in the family, I've got extra mags nearby, if need be. And, if for some reason, I'm the one unlucky guy w/ a failure at a bad time, or need to send something off for service down the line, I've got a duplicate and/or another family version, to run the same platform of mags and ammo, as well as keeping it simple for the misses as she comes on board (got her CWP, just need to get her some range time)....

Good luck, let us know what you decide, I don't think you can go wrong.

I just faced the same decision, and went with the G26. I chose the Glock because it is 'proven' and magazine availability was important to me.

All that being said, I really liked the way the M&P9c felt in my hand. But the G26 is pretty close if you have a finger rest floorplate instead of the standard flat base.

Wife's bedsheets.
Why does your grandma have to use a bedsheet as a table cloth??
Maybe we can take up a collection and get her a decent table cloth!!
How 'bout it guys???

:D

Hmmm, well actually I said great grandmother, because that thing looks so far before my time, I couldn't even imagine my grandmother having anything like that. Since my great grandmother is long passed, and I never met her, I had to imagine what she might have used in the time frame that this print must have been in fashion. I guess a tablecloth came to mind, because I don't tend to think along the lines of anything in the bedroom as it relates to my great grandmother, or any other females down the line that led to my existance.

Thanks for clearing that up though. What's the matter, your wife's bed sheets aren't also your bed sheets? :neener:

Nice glocks though :D
