I think a lot of people are against "high capacity" magazines because they have them confused with "extended" magazines for pistols, such as the one used in the Tucson shooting. It needs to be pointed out that a 15-round magazine is the "small" magazine for the M1 carbine, and a 20-round magazine is a "small" magazine for the AR-15, with 30-round magazines being commonly used in both cases. Many common handguns were designed for 15-round or greater magazines. And here's the clincher -- there are millions and millions of such magazines out here. A prospective ban on these would do little but slightly drive up prices (once the panic subsides). A retrospective ban -- well, good luck with that.
