I think a lot of people are against "high capacity" magazines because they have them confused with "extended" magazines for pistols, such as the one used in the Tucson shooting. It needs to be pointed out that a 15-round magazine is the "small" magazine for the M1 carbine, and a 20-round magazine is a "small" magazine for the AR-15, with 30-round magazines being commonly used in both cases. Many common handguns were designed for 15-round or greater magazines. And here's the clincher -- there are millions and millions of such magazines out here. A prospective ban on these would do little but slightly drive up prices (once the panic subsides). A retrospective ban -- well, good luck with that.

well, it would turn millions of us into instant criminals, if there's no ''grandfather'' clause.. But I think that's the point. I think they want to.

I think Billy here has a really great explanation on why the labels used in this discussion (attempt to scare people into relieving themselves of their 2A rights) are so important. Accuracy and honesty is important. VITALLY IMPORTANT.

I'm not sure how much good talking common sense will do, but my hope is that it will help some to see the light who might otherwise side with the gun-grabbers.

I will wait for Biden's recommendations and what legislation is introduced. The rest is just noise.

True that. We "including myself" sometimes assume that more rational minds will prevail", usually not so.

I believe the term "Assault Rifle" was coined around 1943. Ever heard of a Sturmgewehr?

I have to get some of those "Assault Magazines". Do they just jump off the shelf and start beating people up?

Are the ones that jump off the shelf and seriously injure people called "Aggravated Assault Magazines"?

The term "assault rifle" as used in the context of my post was coined by Josh Sugarmann to describe a semi-automatic rifle with cosmetic appearances and features which made it "ugly" and appear as though it was a military shoulder arm.

And yes, I am familiar with the Sturmgewehr rifle. It was this rifle that Kalashnikov modeled his AK47 after.

We're down to numbers now...don't debate...call, write or email your state and federal legislators every single week. When we have to deliver bullet points, they need to be better than "magazines vs. clips." A factoid that I've gotten good mileage with is that based on Feinstein's own press release numbers, since the AWB expired in 2004, approximately 50 people a year have been killed by so-called "assault weapons;" during the same period of time 54 people a year were killed by bees and wasps. So we're going to ban the most popular rifle in America, create a staggering level of bureaucracy and a level of civil disobedience unprecedented in the history of the United States and potentially make hundreds of thousands of our citizens felons to "save" fewer people than are stung to death by bees?
Does anyone have a link to this press release?
