Conwict,
You are not a jerk and make some valid points which I agree with. And yes, it does boils down to the person/s which is why I mentioned which types, from which neighborhoods, were more apt to carry sharp things. Funny, I grew up with many girls who would not hesitate and did use a blade if you even stared at them wrong. These were the street types who had it in their hand while at a bus stop at night. However, when I got to college I had to tell the girls from nicer neighborhoods to have their OC in their hand. I would simply ask them "how effective is your spray in your bag from a purse snatcher?" A folder is a good "in between" because you can palm it while jogging. I already said the "grab" was the reason against the OC and for the knife. If the females hands gets muscled down, how will she bring the OC to face level?? As for aggression, you have to feel what kind of clay you are trying to mold. Some girls won't think twice to claw your eyes out and some are meek. I would like hear what you would recommend as a best all rounder, pros and cons considered.
FloppyD, I also agree that an asp baton can be wrestled away simply because of sheer leverage even if not from personal weight. As for the Kimber spray being only used twice, it goes back to my belief that it will run out too quickly if outnumbered. And if outnumbered, they won't need to use it against you. Also, while its true that most would feel more comfy spraying someone than striking them, they may not have that choice to make. Range sometimes can be controlled to an extent which is why running in an open area is good.
A good fit for a folder FOR ME is one with a neutral handle. It must make a good fistload first (debated on other forums). This way it covers some more bases in force escalation and proximity. A baton is not very useful if someone jumps in your face by surprise(normal perp tactic) because you lose the leverage of swing. A closed folder can still maximize a lot of strike force in close confines compared to the baton. Think of a runners up/down hand motion and you have a very natural upward strike to groin/ throat or downward to eyes/nose with a folder. Most girls I know have no problem with hittin a guy in the nads. They can open said folder if they need to.
Years ago, I asked Dan Inosanto how he managed to instruct so many LE agencies with varying state laws. He told me it was rough in the beginning as different acadamies told him "we can do this, but not that." He said it was impossible to learn every states law before teaching them. And so he taught what he taught, but, told their tac trainers to take from it as need be and tailor it to suit them. In that regard, I am only trying to discuss my thoughts from a strategic standpoint, not a legal one as I don't know what you can/cannot do within your legal boundaries weapons wise.
