Colorado Sheriff "Boy Scouts = Hamas"

Sounds like a case of NIMBY, I bet everyone that is complaining just moved into the area. Dam transplants.:cuss:

When I went to boy scout camp our site was right across one of the two dirt road in camp, we were separated by about 20 yards of open ground and 10 yards of trees. I can attest that it isnt that loud and in no way does it sound like Hamas training.

Kudos to News Shooter!
I do think this whole things sucks, but it is somewhat out of context to say the Sheriff compared the Boy Scouts to Hamas.

What he said was "It sounded like Hamas had a training camp next door."
He just got into trouble trying to give the reporter a colorful quote. I doubt seriously he actually believes the Boys Scouts=Hamas.

Yep. That's the problem with online summaries and (often) scattershot reporting -- it's a whole new galaxy for the concept of "out of context."

I took it as a mildly funny comment, nothing more than that. If he'd said it was "Loud as hell," would anyone be asking for a photostat of his admission ticket?

EDIT: Heh! Quite by coincidence, I assure you, this is post 666 for me ;) I guess the Devil made me do it. Which is impressive, since I keep not believing he exists ...

If the sheriff really said " "It sounded like Hamas had a training camp next door," said Elbert County Sheriff William Frangis, who fielded numerous calls from people who live near the ranch." , then he needs to be taken to task on that. Those Boy Scouts of America may someday be US soldiers fighting for his sorry excuse of existence. He should be there shooting clays and supporting the BSA.

When I chose to title this thread; Colorado Sheriff "Boy Scouts = Hamas" I intentionally used a hyperbole to attract attention ... I didn't think anyone here would seriously think that the Sheriff was trying to equate BS USA and Hamas, nor did I think anyone would seriously think I interpreted what the Sheriff said thusly.

Irony and sarcasm can be real tough concepts to project in a non-spoken medium.

Sniper X: Sounds like the old story about the dumb people who move in right next door to an Airport then start to complain about jet noise! I can not beleive the ignorance and stupidity of some of our bretheren Americans!
Not as stupid as the idiots that give into their ridicules demands!

The Peoples Republic of California may not have invented yuppies, but they refined and perfected them.

"The noise was unbelievable," Dunn said, adding that it was enough to scare the elk, deer, and birds in the vicinity. "We haven't seen them since."

Bull freaking Crap.

Anyone who has hunted or Shot outdoors knows that gunshots normally don't scare wildlife away.

I've shot at javelinas before only to have them return to the spot their buddies just got killed. Deer even after a gun shot will dart and then come back like 5 minutes later.

B.S.

At my club we often have to have a cease fire on the trap and skeet fields while we wait for the deer to graze their way across. Not to mention the various hawks and other raptors that have constantly circle and occasionally swoop down. The rifle/pistol range can be real bad. We've had deer, foxes, rabbits, and squrriels amble onto the range while firing was going on. They're either stone deaf or just didn't care about the noise.

If the Boy Scouts are "Hamas" then the sheriff's deputies are Jack-boot Thugs, who desire to impose their own version of Hilter's Youth onto the Boy Scouts.

If there is an Elk in Elbert County, I am a ballerina....

Dravur,

What color tu tu are you going to where? There is a very large resident herd of elk down around Elbert and in the Bijou basin. In fact most years Elbert county produces several of the larger elk to be harvested in the state of Co.

Are you going to have fringe on your tu tu or are you going to go smooth?:D

Here is news flash for you boys about Sheriff Frangis. The Sheriff of my county the man I voted against twice, is a retired BATFE agent.

Here are some high lights from Sheriff Frangis's career so far in Elbert county.

He got pulled over in Elizabeth Co by a city officer. The officer who pulled him over said he smelled alcohol on the esteemed sheriff's breath but "didn't know if he could arrest him" because he was the sheriff. This was in the local paper several years sgo.

Turns out the officer in questions wife works for the esteemed sheriff and when Frangis was pulled over the first thing he said to the officer was "how does your wife like her new job". Apparently in Elbert county we don't screw with the sheriff even if he is committing a crime.

Three or four years ago a women was mauled and killed by a pack of pitt bulls out near Elizabeth. The womans son ran to the house and called 911. It took the police 90 minutes to respond. It seems that all of the Elbert county deputies were busy giving traffic tickets and just didn't have the time to show up. The local city cop was dealing with a domestic dispute and while there were several county guys available who weren't busy writing traffic tickets they weren't sure if the call was in there jurisdiction or not because the address was on the line between the city and the county so they just didn't repond.

The woman was eventually mauled to death the boy was able to get a neighbor who had a shot gun who went over and blasted the dogs with bird shot and got them off the body of the woman. 90 minutes later the city police finally showed up and killed the pit bulls shooting them in the head.

Turns out that these dogs were being used by a local meth maker as guard dogs and had gotten out if their yard.

Moral of the story don't go unarmed in Elbert county. The police can not be counted on when needed.

My wife is a veterinarian out here. Just about every new client she has is from California. They are moving in by the thousands and the first thing they try to do is change everything so that it is just like California. They have no respect for our local culture at all.

They want to stop hunting, stop shooting, stop ranching, stop farming buy million dollar houses in a tightly packed sub division within inches of another million+ dollar house so they can look at each other and say LOOK at me and how successful I am!! They always move into a sub division that is named after the animals that were destroyed to make room for sub division places like "prong horn vistas" or "wapiti estates". Then sit there and preach "environmentalism" and other PC BS from their Mc Mansions to us simple country folk who should learn from them because they are.:D

The local Rod & Gun Club were I shoot has had this going on for years.

The club has operated an active range for some 40 odd years.....but about 12 years ago a developer put in a condo. complex next door and now people complaign often and the town is just waiting for an excuse (like a serious accident) to shut the range down.

Typical B.S. People who bought the condo's didn't bother reading the 6'x4' sign on the road 100 yds down from the condo. complex entrance before they bought and now they're upset. "You mean they actually shoot guns there?"

I wish I could put a jinx on their congregate septic system. :D

Then I could complain to the town fathers if I had to smell their sh&# while shooting or attending a game supper, or hunters ed. class, or Boy Scout event, or archery match..... For cryin out loud, the R & G has over 500 members.

The scouts may have (repeat "may have"....my speculation) brought the problem on themselves by letting the range fall into disuse. If you let things die down, you can have a big problem when you start up again. Best solution...stay active....shoot alot.

A range I know of had problems with new subdivision neighbors that had a petition to shut then down . So they had a meeting with the neighbors and explained that they would have to sell the property , 60 acres all to one buyer so they could purchase land further away. And the only offers they had so far was from a person who wanted to put in about 500 or so low cost housing units. The people who had the petition ,could see there property values about to drop and the crime rate about to rise. They thought it over and withdrew their petition.

Now the BSA is like that other "elite" para-military organization, Eagle Scouts.

Wolverines!

Anyway, you can see the bias in such irresponsible and down right disgusting comments. Relating shooting to terrorism training. :barf:

Well, I hate the Califonization of Colorado as much as anyone, but at least in NorCo, it hasn't gotten as overwhelming as it has in the general area of Douglas County. This isn't to say we don't have our share of California celebutards in our area as much as it is that they aren't here in toxic quantities. Yet. This may or may not sound a little funny, but I am dead serious when I say that how most of you feel about the immigration problem is how I feel about Californians coming into this state to live.

Also, my hatred is specifically directed at these SoCal idiots. NorCal is a by and large a delight, and the NorCallies that move here seem on average to fit in much better. The SoCal jerks that move in simply do not comprehend or respect that Colorado is a midwestern state with midwestern values. Most Coloradoans still proudly think of Denver as a cow-town, and certainly, there is a lot of agri-business conducted there. Plus, it snows here. Evidently Californians have no interest in geography or research, because they seem shocked when it dips past 45, and positively apoplectic when it actually snows.

There was a fellow moved into Gunnison from CA and bought some income property there. He was out front one day, saying how he was going to plant some lemon trees in the sidewalk planters.

Gunnison, of course, gets thirty to fifty below in the winter and stays that way for months at a time.

I left CO in 1997 and my only regret is that I didn't leave 25 years sooner.

There are plenty of "socal idiots" who fight for rights here. I would remind you that my Utah CCW was not invalidated by a Californian, it was invalidated by a Coloradoan.

I know it's easy to blame others for your problems.

.

I don't think I'd want the scouts building and operating a new range near
my house, either.
