i want a commander style pistol (4 or 4 1/4 inch barrel)
for ccw i am leaning toward a kimber pro carry but want to consider all the options first hears what i want: 4 or 4.25 inch barrel, blue or black, night sights, light wieght, under $800. so who makes this gun

I was you four months ago. I bought the S&W 1911PD commander size. I absolutely love this gun. I knew the grip would print so I had her bobtailed. I can't imagine how I ever lived without her.

jhco,

If the Dan Wesson Bobtail Commander didn't appeal to you as a carry gun, you may want to look at the SIG CCC (?ing the model configuration). It's more commonly referred to as a CCO; an Officer's frame with a Commander slide. That's if you want to go .45 ACP; if you prefer 10mm, take another look at the Dan Wesson.

Dan Wesson CBOB of course.

If you don't like it for some reason, next best choice would be SA Loaded.

Kimber Pro Carry

I've had good luck the last 4 years with my Kimber Pro CDP. It has run very well and has some good features, like night sights, front strap checkering and a melt job on the slide. I put thin grip panels on it and a single side thumb safety so the gun is quite thin in profile.

I'm rather partial to these myself. Mine has a steel frame, but alloy frame Commanders are just as if not more common:

Two deciding points for me between the S&W 1911PD and the Dan Wesson Cbob were round capacity and weight. I had read enough about the mag capacity with the Cbob...some could easily run 8 rounders but many could only load 8 when the slide was lock back and that was a concern. I really wanted the light weight but I also really wanted the bobtail. I really liked the looks of both and in the end I chose the S&W and had it bobtailed. I chose lightweight over stainless steel. I'd do it again but at the end of the day they are both really excellent firearms.

Here's what Bud's is selling them for...where I bought mine from.

CBob $929 delivered
* Capacity: 7 + 1
* Weight: 34 oz
* Finish: Brushed Stainless Steel

S&W 1911PD $819 delivered
* Capacity 8 + 1
* Weight 28 oz
* Finish Black
