"Conceal carry badge" ????????

Lawyer wannabe's carry phony business cards to hand out to accident victims. (Sorry real attorneys, I couldn't resist.)

First of all, let me say that I don't have one of these badges. However, I did contemplate it when I received my permit.

My thoughts were - if I inadvertantly showed my handgun IWB, it would be right next to it. A person (sheeple) who saw it would just dismiss it and not turn it into a "situation".

Some more food for thought - if a BG sees your weapon, you are "made" anyway.

I don't think the badges are meant to be displayed publicly. Rather, meant to be concealed with your weapon and shown only to comfort the sheeple. When I recieved my permit in the mail there was a company advertisement and I thought that is the basic idea that they were trying to get across. Of course, I could be completely off-base with that. *shrug*

We all know that a badge, by itself, obviously carries no authority, no matter who is carrying it or what it says. Unfortunately, the only way we can confirm an authority's identity is confirmation through a means that cannot be faked. For instance, calling the police department, FBI, etc. LOL, but good luck not getting maced and a knee to your face before that happens. Of course, the fakers are making a bet on the fact that you are not going to take that chance and turn down someone with a badge. :(

I always thought that was a very interesting dilemma. The crux of which basically rests on the honor system and most people taking it for granted that the person is who they say they are.

As far as getting arrested for simply carrying a badge.... When you reference this situation, be careful to note what kind of badge is being displayed. These people were not arrested because they were carrying or displaying a badge. They were arrested for displaying a badge with the INTENT to deceive. At the time of arrest, or potential arrest, it will obviously be at the police officer's discretion as to whether you were trying to decieve anyone.

For example - if you get a badge saying "Number One A%%hole" you are probably not going to come across anyone with a problem with it. If you get a badge that says "Pleasentville Police Department", you will probably get a cop knockin' on your window, door, or your skull. And you will deserve every thump because you are touching on a very delicate part of society's framework.

For the record, I am not trying to start an unhealthy, negative, or otherwise non-constructive argument. Just trying to be clear ;) :)

Do firemen have wannabes, too? Do nurses? How about lawyers?

Yes.

Well i have met the "nurses" and "lawyers". I am CERTAIN that firefighters (they arent ALL men anymore) have plenty of wannabes as well. The funny thing is that the fake nurses/lawyers both seem to end up getting tresspassed in hospitals a LOT when their "constitutional right to having any medication they want is 'violated'".

CCW Badge = really scary psuedo-cop. A person that you REALLY want to stay away from in general. Ive met all too many of these guys and they are ALL ticking time bombs.

The CCW Badge is for those with an Inflated Ego and are Legends in their own mind! :what:

For those who have entertained the thought that one of these "badges" just might be a good idea...

Have you thought of what would happen if you actually had to use your CCW? And what would happen in court?

In Minnesota, use of badge in a "authoritative way" was considered enough to get a mall ninja tossed in the pokey for impersonating a police officer.

In many states, except for legitimate collectors, possesion of a badge that simulates or emulates that of an LEO is Illegal.

These are why you are given a permit. If someone yells he's got a gun and aims one at you, then just raise your hands and A) wait for the cops, or B) raise one hand and say "I have a permit, may i show it to you?"

Just plain stupid. You've got your permit(s). It says CONCEALED. Check your wannabe-attitude and ego at the bureau desk before you get a weapons license so you don't screw it up for the rest of us.

Every LEO I've had chats with over the years HATES those stupid IDs.

CCW badge

One firearms instructor who advised against a CCW badge had second
thoughts after cops responding to a shooting incident call shot the
wrong person: an armed victim, rather than the armed criminal who had
either been put down or fled before they arrived. Note also, the LEO training
targets with Shoot and Dont Shoot scenarios: the Dont Shoot civilian clothes
with badge on belt and gun in hand. Sure the "mall ninja" wannabes might
flash CCW badges to be macho, but having a CCW badge near your
concealed carry holster might prevent a mistaken ID shooting by responding
LEOs.
Check with your city police and county sheriff's office, get their opinion
and follow it.

I've seen these things in the gun magazines.

They are a bad idea. A VERY BAD IDEA!

In fact if you flash a badge I wonder if this would ,in some states, imply impersonating a police officer.
They will. No doubt about that. The idiot that gets arrested for it too will deserve whatever punishment he gets, along with confiscation of his gun and revocation of his CHL.

As far as the "armed victim" getting shot by police. If you've had to draw and/or fire your weapon at a BG and the police arrive with you having a gun still in your hand, then there's two problems I see:

1) You failed to take cover.
2) You should be putting the weapon on the ground or back in the holster upon their arrival.

Just like what has always been said: CONCEALED MEANS CONCEALED!

To put yourself off like anyone else could get you killed or otherwise in deep sh** by either the GGs or the BGs.

Just my $.02
