Was reading the other day and saw and advertisement for a concealed carry badge that is apparently legal for those who carry. The advertisement also suggested that this badge could save your life. It's 2"x3", gold-plated, has CHP on the bottom, and is shaped like a LEO shield... What purpose would this serve, is it legal, and does anyone here have one?

Maxsell, the company that makes these "badges" is considered walmart for mall ninjas. Avoid them like the plague, if for no other reason than to not get picked on.

There is NO purpose in carrying a badge like that, it is just sheer stupidity. It can get you into trouble with actual police officers though, if they believe that you are pretending to be a cop, but I seriously doubt that anyone will be fooled by it.. especially if they are the type of people who have seen real badges flashed before them before.

Carry a gun, and draw it if you get into serious trouble. That badge will only make serious trouble appear faster..

Of course it did. Would you buy one if it said "This badge is guaranteed to make you look like a complete idiot, endanger your life in case of a real threat, or a mall ninja, depending on the application."

Unless you plan on a game of cowboys 'n injuns (should I have said native Americans?), I don't see any use whatsoever for a CCW badge.:neener:

This subject returns on a regular basis and most consider CC badges toys. I believe them to be unnecessary and trouble waiting to happen.

I'd rather wear the special officer doofy star:

LOL!!
But really, it is a good way to track attention...in a BAD way. What's the point of concealed, if one wheres that stupid thing??

Yup, just mall ninja garbage.

It has absolutely no official weight. It marks you as an idiot. Don't get one.

Those things are getting to be real popular down here by the Mexican border, the CHL guys know that cops down here have a harder time trying to figure out who's who with all the drug activity down here. The badge is bad if you say "police officer don't move" then you're impersonating an officer, but if it's a chl badge and you say "handgun license" you're not impersonating anybody but a mall ninja :)

Why not just show your handgun license if you feel the need to say 'handgun license'?

Concealed Means Concealed. If someone can see you handgun you have violated the First Rule. If your peice is concealed then you have no problem.

Keep you CHL behind yor Driver License in you clear wallet window, it helps save time if you have violated the First Rule. The CHL the badge is symbolic of nothing other than a marketing gimmick design to seperate you from your ammo and training money.

Seriously who buys these thing? How many are sold in a year? How does this company make money on it?

At least one local gun shop here sells them and I asked one time about them. The counter clerk/owner made some crack about how much they suck. I asked why he sold them. He gave no answer.

I know a couple bail enforcement(extreme mall ninjas)that order there beo badges from a place like this one.
this site offers a custom engraved badge I think I will order(soon as I get $100 to blow)just for laughs that says something like mall ninja,or FBI on top and female body inspector bellow that.the possibillies are endless for the football watching, beer drinking get togethers here at my place.:)

.

What a wonderful way to piss off a police officer.

All true yet if you were actively engaging a shooter in a public place as that off duty cop did in Utah while in street clothes you would want something more than your perfectly executed Weaver stance to let the responding cops know you were the responding CCW holder who called them rather than the sicko shooting everyone they could .

The problem of identification isn't just a civilian one and something that every time the subject comes up turns to nothing but insults to those who throw out suggestions .

Are you going to stick your CHL in your teethe and hope a cop figures it out before shooting you ?

Fact is there are Police departments who provide NO training whatsoever on how to deal with CCW/CHL holders after the states passes the laws .

I asked an off duty guy while he was working security at my job well over a year after Missouri passed the law about training dealing with holders and he not only had not received any training he doubted me when I told him it was the law in the state , and he was employed by one of the highest paying departments in the state !

If you're some goofball running around playing cop interjecting yourself into domestic disputes in public you deserve to get slapped with a charge of impersonating a officer but , if you get caught up in a shooting and engage to help save innocent lives would you really worry more about an impersonation charge or a responding officer shooting you ?

a concealed carry badge that is apparently legal for those who carry
and apparently legal for those who don't as well. It's not like these people only sell these badges to people who actually have a permit.

Nope, could be taken as impersonation of a LEO. You need
always to carry your CHL whenever you carry a concealed
weapon, period. In this state, the DMV is part of computor-
ized record, so a LEO knows you are CHL holder if your are
stopped or detained without asking!
