Corporations Will Flush Freedoms For $$$

I've always said that corporations are powerful forces to be feared. They have concerns for nothing but the pursuit of profits.

I've always told people that large corporations will eventually help fold up our freedoms if they can turn a profit while doing so.

A working group led by Vice President Biden is seriously considering measures backed by key law enforcement leaders that would require universal background checks for firearm buyers, track the movement and sale of weapons through a national database, strengthen mental health checks, and stiffen penalties for carrying guns near schools or giving them to minors, the sources said.

To sell such changes, the White House is developing strategies to work around the National Rifle Association that one source said could include rallying support from Wal-Mart and other gun retailers for measures that would benefit their businesses.

That says "could include". As in not yet done. While corporations are about getting money, which is a no brainer, its best not to condemn them as a whole. Especially not before anything is actually confirmed.

That doesn't say anything about WalMart or other corporations working with the Commission to sell us out.

It says that they realize they need WalMart and corporations to not oppose the changes so they're trying to not make those changes painful to them.

This does raise the question of how to counter an effort like this.

When legislation is proposed, we have the opportunity to voice our opinions on it. Something like this is much harder to detect, and therefore tough to respond to.

If this is going to become a common tactic, then we need to figure out how to at least make it transparent. Walmart might well sell us out if they thought they stood to gain -- but they'd be unlikely to do so publically, since the shooting community is pretty aggressive when it comes to taking our business away from companies that undermine us.

I would be interested exactly what percentage of "the gun market" that Walmart channels. I buy a good bit of ammo from them and I would think many more here do too.

We live in a semi-fascist economic system. Meaning that any company, especially "large corporations", are allowed to make profits after jumping through certain government imposed hoops. Sending a shot across Walmart's bow would be a smart move for the gun control types. "Cooperate, or you will find profits drying up with some more business regulations thrown your way."

I have seen what can happen when a company gave the government "the finger". The government took an arm. Bottomless pockets and resources, they have.

If Walmart does bend to Biden's will, it will be because they feel they might severe a finger to save an arm. Unless they see they might do quite well, armless, with profits made from gun folk.

If online sales of ammo gets banned Walmart will stand to make a mint. All we can do is hang on for dear life and keep the politicians aware of our displeasure.

If you want to get Corporations out of politics, lobby to get the politicians out of Corporations. The more they tax, regulate and otherwise threaten business, the more time and money business is required to divert from their core purpose to protection from govenment.
