I use muffin tins and put parts from related assemblies in the same cup such as everything from the bolt group goes in one cup and all the pins and springs from the trigger group go in another cup. My uncle who worked for NASA taught me this trick. I keep several cheap muffin tins from the dollar store at my work bencn.
Sounds like he's a really good gun smith if he was able to improve the guns design and add a spring somewhere.
I would have been a nervous wreak and started searching the internet/ asking people for the parts breakdown trying to figure out where the dang spring came from.
That's my guess too. Or he knows it was a prank, and now he's pranking by playing dumb.
For some reason, that reminds me of the joke about the watermelon farmer whose watermelons kept getting stolen. He's really ticked off, so he posts a sign in the melon patch: "One of these melons is poisoned." The next day when he goes out to check the melons, there's another sign: "Now there are two."
