Did I do the right thing?

Golck or "Schlok"

You did the right thing ! Rule No: 1 in my house : there are no such things as "toy" guns. This caused a few tears with my boy when he was smaller, but he just received his first .22 because he knows what to do and more importantly, knows what to NOT DO!

Sounds good to me...any one of my brothers would think he got off lucky. Mine would have been able to get their gun back right away providing they had a hand mirror and a set of tongs. :)

He is 18 and I am technicaly just his older sister. When my brother went to my dad to try and get his airsoft back my dad asked why i took it. After I made my brother explain My dad said that that sounded fair. but my question to you all is...Did I do the right thing?
Pretty much.

Part of me thinks you should have broken his arm, but I suppose there are some who might think that would be over-reacting.

L'il bro' needs to understand that one does NOT point firearms (or things that look like firearms) at other people. Period. Maybe he has now learned that, maybe not.

Let's just say you did not over-react.

hell yeah..

airsofts are fun though.. me and my friends run around shooting each other with it when we can't afford any more paintballs

A police officer just shot and killed a drug suspect for pointing a silver colored plastic gun at him on saturday...

I'd say you did the right thing medgrl, as I did the same thing to the 11-year old next door nieghbor kid while he was over visiting my son. I guarantee he'll never do that again! :D I had my hand on the "Saturday Night Special" cap gun he drew from his pocket before I saw the red barrel tip. Guess I still got it! (Reminder to retrain- I used to help my Dad train on handgun retention [he was a cop], and I got good at disarming, also.) He got it back after a very long lecture about gun safety, how he could well have been shot, etc. He didn't show his face around here for a couple weeks, it was kinda nice. {This kid's role model is Eddie Haskell :uhoh: }

Perfectly executed disarming maneuver

If he tried that move in public he could end up at room-temperature very quickly. A knife-thrust would be his luckiest result. You should ALWAYS kick a male assailant in the testicles. We never forget girls who re-arrange our testicles, in one way or another.

(in a small high voice) Thats true!!!:D

Eddie Haskell, Character in 1950/60s sitcom "Leave it to Beaver", Wally's (the older brother's) sneaky friend who acts nice around adults but incites improper behavor around his buddies. BTW the actor who played Eddie is a LEO now (got shot and all).

my brother did the same thing but with a pellet pistol and a co2 cartridge. pointed it just over his friends back while laying down. from the perspective of the kid on the ground he couldnt tell but it scared the crap out of him. in retrospect it wasn't smart, but that kid was my bro's best man last summer so i guess he didnt take it personal :)

they were probably 15 or 16 at the time

Did I do the right thing?

Absolutely. Brother, sister, whoever. If a gun is pointed at you, either you get out of the way, or you get it out of the way.

You have more patience than I. I'd have taken a Milwaukee Sawzall to it.

Thats the kind of joking that can get you killed.
Very true. Move it to a different context. Had he done that to me in front of 7-11, I would've drawn my gun and possibly shot him. It is best to stop habits like pointing weapons at people as soon as they appear.

Maybe you should have added more pain to make sure he got the point.
You did fine !!

I've found quite a few people that don't understand that Airsoft isn't a toy. Had a roomate in San Diego that took my Airsoft Glock (bought it for costuming) out one day, when we were going to pick up a friend. While driving down the road, we had a truckload of hispanics throwing gang signs at us: he pulled out the Glock. Until then, I didn't know I could disarm a Marine while doing 80mph on Highway 5. The lecture delivered I can't reprint here, as it was mostly explitives that would have Art's Grammaw shooting me (forget the soap in mouth)...

I have to agree with a few other posters, breaking the thing over his head would've been a good idea...

if my brother did that to mee id pull my airsoft gun out and some safty glasses and say take ten steps then Draw....or id throw the dishes at him whichever if more convient:evil:

Tell him to repaint the front quarter inch orange, bc making it not orange is a federal offense.

You did what you needed to do. Congrats.

Yeah, way more patience. When I think of this stuff, I think instead of the Sawzall I'd just throw it on the ground and take a real .45 to it... counting on the multiple reports and flying bits of toy gun to get more of my point across... after he tried to punch me in the fist with his nose.:cuss:
