CSI: Almost dropped her off the couch

I'll go you one better. We were shopping for security cameras for work, and the salesman told me that his sales dropped to 50% due to the fact that his systems won't do what you can do with the video surveillance systems you see on CSI, and potential customers were looking for something that you could blow up 500% and eliminate pixilations. Worst part is, they would not believe him when he explained the magic of Hollywood!

actually, there are some better camera systems available that you can blow up quite a bit. they are very high resolution and non-interlaced, and completely digital to boot. they are also not your typical cheap surveillance type cameras. I saw a demo of one once that just blew my socks off. they seem to be used mostly in industrial facilities where you used to have to send an operator walking around to see certain things. Now you can just use the camera because it is good enough.

because they are not interlaced, essentially they take a complete picture every time instead of half a picture which dramatically improves the still pictures you get from them.

I remeber seeing a CSI Miami where some bikers had one of those weird Isreali setups where you can pivot the gun around corners and shot some guy at 200yards one handed with a 9mm and killed him instantly.

I can't believe no one's mentioned the episode where a (presumably) legal gun-owner, with no criminal record and a clean (not used in a crime previously) pistol ... is magically, suddenly brought into the station because -- get this -- a bullet from a crime-scene is matched (***?!) to his pistol!

But hey, at least Callie carries a cocked-and-locked Kimber .45 ...

I always liked when they looked at a shell casing and told somebody what it was fired from. And correct me if Im wrong but there is no such thing as a 7 gr 22 cal bullet but in on CSI Miami Caliegh had one she used to figure out how far a sniper was when he made his shot. But even though Caliegh dont really know what she is talking about hearing a woman talking like that is sexy and she looks good doing it to.

While we may laugh at this keep in mind that the average person looking at this will get their own opinions. Like (with show):

Gun store owners are white supremacist (Law and Order)
Any rifle with a scope is a sniper rifle (CSI)
Black Talons are AP rounds (Law and Order)
All EBR's and scoped rifles should be illegal (44 minutes)
Gun's under $200.00 are for criminals not poor people wanting to protect themselves and if you want to protect yourself just call the cops (Law and Order)
Suppressors are EVILLLLL! (CSI) I couldn't resist :D
And If you have over 2 guns you are a survivalist (CSI)

These shows are so biased and generalizing it is scary, LEO's want them to be done away with because criminals are watching them and planning their crimes more carefully. JMT (Just my take)

Black Talons are AP rounds (Law and Order)
That is not true at all

Black Talons were cop killers that the manufacturer stopped making voluntarily because the bullet's unique pattern of expansion made it too readily identifiable and bullet makers want anonymity
Law & Order: Special Victims Unit

Far too many idiots watch these shows and then show up in a jury pool where the results are fairly predictable.

Then there is the Nifong situations where the ME really has (to be kind) screwed the pooch. Then when called on it the DA can (as does) say, "Hey, this ain't CSI. Get real. Your concerns are out of line. Trust us, we know what we are doing."

And one of my favorites (although not gun-related): Any time you trace an IP address, it will show you the name of the user, their photograph, and their exact address.

Baby Eagles are Mossad guns? I better let the local range know, seeing as they have half a display case full of them. ;)

But yeah, I suspend my disbelief for TV. I shake my head when they get something wrong, but I don't change the channel over it. You really think a buncha vegan hippie TV writers in Los Angeles know much about guns?

My fiancee and my roomates girlfriend hate me, and they're starting to hate my roomate too because he's learning so much from me..

I always tell everyone that wants me to watch a movie that they won't enjoy my company unless they like relentlessly bashing the ignorance of those that try to entertain me with this trivial crap.. Until they put the right kind of effort into it, I refuse to enjoy just about all movies with firearms in em.

Not to say I can't suspend my realistic perspective and just enjoy it for what it is, but man.. that aint my idea of fun.

The mistakes they make are quite sloppy.

I thought the issue with Black Talons was the way they expanded and broke up
caused some trauma surgeons to get injured while working on a shooting victim.

, my favorite hobby now is to calculate how many laws 'Walker Texas Ranger' breaks in any one episode.
It doesn't matter. One Chuck Norris roundhouse kick outweighs all existing laws and 200+ years of jurisprudence.

What's sad is that those shows is all the information some people get on firearms. Sadly enough I have won a bet from my sister only a few days ago because she thought something she saw on CSI had to be a fact. "Why would they put it on t.v. for everyone to watch if it wasnt true". She didn't get the best part of the genes sadly.:D All well 25 more free shells to shoot skeet with.

Hey, it's fine by me if the general populace thinks it's this easy to identify guns. Means they probably won't be as rabid about concocting new gun laws.
