When Caruso makes his kill shot every week he brings hid handgun right up to his face. I know its Hollywood, but thought I would try it with my CZ52. Accuracy went to hell. We were shooting bowling pins at 25 yds and I could not hit even one with all 8 shots. And I got a major whiff of gun powder fumes.

Going from memory, here, but I think that he's right handed and left eye dominant. It's a bit hard to tell, since he's always got his trademark shades on, but from the stance, I'd guess he's using a weaver stance with the gun in front of his left eye. He always tilts his head quite a bit, as well, I think. My stances often wind up looking strange for the same reason.

And that, my friend, is why you will never be Horatio Caine! :)

But the right hand/left eye thing might be it. I too have that condition, which is probably why I have problems shooting larger calibers.

That's because nobody looks as cool using the "Horatio stance" when it comes to shooting (or putting on shades for that matter). :D

Don't worry...I scream the same thing every time me and the wife watch CSI Miami and I see Horatio pull out his gun and get "tacticool".

Lt. Cain usually stands sideways to people he's talking to and turns and tilts his head to look at them. Kinda weird. His shooting form follows suit.

It's a little known fact that he was blinded in one eye in the police academy; back of the slide clipped him during firearms qualification.

Now don't get me wrong,I watch the show every week..but did you ever notice that at the end of anything Cane has to say he either puts on his shades,or walks away??Since I noticed it,it's all I can concentrate on.It also looks like he;s holding his gun in a way that most of his shots would be in the ground about 3 feet in front of him.

Caine is so much more than any of us mere mortals.I wouldn't want him finding out you guys were talking about him.
...and YES,no one but NO ONE does "donning the shades" like Horatio! Don't even try!

***?? there is a thread discussing the stance, eyedomanance, and weapon handeling of a tv show as if its a training film from an instructor ?? Damm some of us have too much time on our hands ( including me since i read it and replyed lol )

I don't buy the eye dominance excuse. I'm right handed with long guns, yet left handed with pistols.

Having right eye dominance and being left handed with a pistol has not effected my shooting stance. Whether I'm shooting isosceles or weaver, my stance is good, only my head being slightly turned to the left to use my right eye.

I've always shot expert at the pistol and rifle range.

It's just poor stance, taught to him by hollywood, neglected by his technical advisor.

Of all of the things wrong with that show, Horatio's handgun stance is pretty far down the list. ;)

I would rank script writing (who comes up with those really bad B-movie quotes of his, anyway?) and acting faaaaaaar above how he works a pistol on my list of annoyances. That, and the profound disconnect with reality exhibited in the show's entire premise.

Besides, we don't learn gunhandling from Hollywood for a reason. :D

Coronach, you mean to tell me that real CSI lab specialists don't participate in raids, engage criminals on a seemingly daily basis, drive Hummers, wear Gucci clothing, and execute arrest warrants? :neener:

Horatio Caine!
well you must remember that he is an x marine sniper, force recon, delta, PJ, seal, and for the last three years of his career was in charge of a water purification unit. :)
meanwhile he was a CID agent the whole time!
if anyone can do it he can!

Yeah, and they also don't work in buildings that look like Bill Gate's corporte office, either.

When we do crime scene processing for burglaries (usually done by patrol officers, except in instances where there is a lot of latent evidence, or some very good evidence), I have a schtick that I do. As I or my co-worker is getting out the fingerprint kit (looks like a old battered fishing tackle box encrusted in black powder), I say "well, what we're gonna do now is dust for prints. As you can see, this is just like CSI, except we're better-looking..."

Usually good for a laugh. ;)
