sumpnz TK tried to push 30-30 as cop killers. Craige offered to strenghten the penelty for AP use in a crime ( Existing laws be enforced.) There will also be a 2 year study regarding AP ammo later.

No one gets exeptions from the Serial Killer in the DC area.

Sorry, should have worded my last post better. I meant to ask whether or not those ammendments had been attached to S.1805, or if they had been shot down.

Craig detailing the history of semiautos, Teddy Roosevelt hunted with a semiauto shotgun. Semis, including those defined as "assault weapons", are used formal marksmanship, recreational target shooting, hunting, etc.

"And are kept and used for protection against crime and criminals." How 'bout them apples, DiFi?

"Mistakenly beleive these are machine guns"

Craig: I prefer to call this the semi-auto ban. The word is assault is an image getter. The mechanism of the firearm itself is what I will speak to. When this law was first enacted, many were skeptical it would work, hence the sunset provision. Well, the year is at hand. The results are in, and these firearms are not generally used in crime. The restrictions imposed by the AWB make no sense, are a burden to law-abiding citizens. The criminal on the ground does not play by the rules. There continues to me a large amount of misinformation on this law. A semi-auto firearm were introduced more than a century ago. Lists the 1800 dates when first semi version of these guns were introduced. Today Americans own aprox 30 million semi-auto firearms. What are Americans doing with these guns? Many defined as AW are used for marksmanship, hunting, and recreation. Many use semi-auto shotguns in skeet and trap, and semi handguns used in recreation and target shooting. They are commonly kept for protection against crime and criminals. There is nothing more dangerous about these firearms than others. In fact, they often do less damage to a target than a shotgun. They are functionally identical to other firearms used in this country. Many believe these are machine guns. Those hearing spraying the crowd brings images of a full auto. That is not the case here. On the contrary, semi-autos do not spray bullets. One shot per trigger pull. Full auto has been banned since 1934. Describes features in ban.

Way to go Larry. Explaning how anti's try to confuse people with the difference between so called AW's and full auto. Spank those ninnies!

Edit: Thanks Kodiak.

Why did Craig say machine guns have been banned since 1934?

We all know that if we pay the $200 tax, we can own one.

Craig talking about Mary, a liscensed hunter from Idaho who hunts with an AR15 and 20 round magazine. Talking about how "assault weapons" are lighter than normal hunting rifles, so they can be used by smaller individuals.

He's reading the ban now.

Craig defusing arguments against grenade launchers (outlawed by NFA, should only be for bonafide collectors, will still be illegal after ban expires, etc).

Hi, I'm new here, and want to thank those who are keeping us up to date on what's going on in the Senate.

I have a question...why don't we hear about any of what's going on from folks like Rush or other radio folks? I don't get it.

Craig talking about how Uzis and AKs are banned from importation. Assault pistols banned from importation, "street sweepers" banned, etc etc. He's explaining how the anti's posterchildren guns are still illegal to bring into the US.

Kharn

As an NRA Director I would have hoped that he would know the facts! Not continue to sprout misinformation.

Craig is talking about weapons banned by the AWB that are already banned by other laws. Mentioned the 89 import law in reference to AKs and UZIs.

To all the NEW PEOPLE!

Its great to see you here and hear your opinions.

However please lets be clear of one thing. Posting opinions and comments here is great but meaningless. You need to contact your Senators IMMEDIATELY!

Think of it as a board initiation. You have to contact your senators via phone, e-mail (and fax if possible) and as many others as possible. I just got back from my lunch break and that's what I did.

Craig said 'standard capacity'

That automatically makes him super pro-gun right there.

He's calling the anti's BS about where they got their statistics (using firearm tracing data). Congressional Research Service looked into AWs, determined gun traces should not be used to determine how often any kind of gun is used by criminals. Limited because most traces are run on guns not used to commit crimes, while most crime guns are never traced. "Firearms selected for tracing do not constitute a random sample of weapons used by criminals." (paraphrased, not exact)

Craig: Assault weapons and mags made before 1994 ban are grandfathered in. Mfgs increased production prior to ban. New models have been introduced. The ban effects firearms never widely used in crime, sites study. According to FBI, rifles of ALL kinds only used in 3% of murders. Yes, some people do hunt with these AW. It is used as a weapon of choice, often because it is lighter. Mary uses a Colt AR15 in Idaho with 20 round mags to hunt (letter from constituent). The ban in 1994 named certain guns specifically. Relists banned features. In ‘34 grenade launchers were banned, and will remain so if AWB sunsets. What were banned by other laws that will remain banned after sunset? I heard reference to Uzis and AK47s. These were banned with the importation law. In 1993, assault pistols were banned under the importation law. Ownership of many of these guns will still be illegal after AWB expires. American made rifles such as the AR15 will be able to be made in their original configuration. They will be able to buy STANDARD capacity magazines instead of abritrairly limited ones. They will be able to use these in their defense. If you are a criminal who deals in the black market, you are unaffected. It's the law-abiding citizen who is affected. The Senator from CA indicated a decline. THIS statistic is accurate. Less than 2% of crimes committed with a semi-auto assault weapon, which is the same before and after the ban. Let me talk about the misuse of tracing data. More than a decade ago, the firearms tracing system was examined. It was determined that traces should not be used as usage statistics. Most guns not used in violent crimes were traced, while those used were not. An LEO may initiate a trace for any reason, crime or not. The ATF admitted, it is not possible to determine if traced guns are related to crime. It is simply for gathering info. Traces on AW are done disproportionate to their crimes, due to political interest. It was the talk of the day.

Talking about Feinsteins data vs his data. His data coming from DOJ study showing 2% semi-auto crime before AND after the ban, unlike Feinsteins.

Talking about how data, namely tracing data, is a flawed statistic to track. Tracing disproportionate to the crimes because of political stat requests. Decade later, less interest in traces, so shifting attitudes determine tracing data.
