Current thinking on best concealed carry firearm

I'm using an Andrews IWB MacDaniel ll w/ Colt Gov Mdl. at 4 o'clock. Tee shirt tucked in and pullover or work shirt out. Very comfortable setup for me.

There are choices, as always. However, given the reliability factor as being paramount, one tends to think of the brands known to be as reliable as a bucket of rocks.

In my experience semi-auto's are more concealable than revolvers. Also, in my experience, bigger bores are better than smaller bores. I don't buy into huge magazine capacities, because the idea is to get out of trouble rather than engage the enemy in a firefight. Also, accuracy trumps capacity everytime IMHO. "How well do you shoot" is a better question than "how many rounds does it hold".

All of the above taken into consideration, and because I'm a lefty, I picked an H&K. If left handedness isn't a factor for you, also look at SIG. Neither is over $1000.00 new & it's not unheard of to find something in the mid-hundreds, look to CDNN. Many models to choose from.

I carry either a springfield xd45 compact in a milt sparks versa max II at around 8-9:00(lefty) or a colt detective special in a desantis speed scabbard owb holster, same location.
The xd45 actually conceals better in a t shirt and jeans, and the DS works well for when i have something bigger than a t-shirt, like wintertime. I'm sure in an iwb holster the DS would conceal just as well, but i like the comfort of the OWB for it.

PPK/S-1 in a pocket holster, front pocket of cargo shorts, or a P239 with CT grips in an IWB holster.

If you desire to recreate the Star 45, without buying another Star 45, Then I agree with Winchester73:
For me the best overall compromise has been the Glock 36(.45ACP) carried in a Milt Sparks Versa Max II holster.
The G36 allows for excellent concealment with its single stack 1.13 grip.
You are operating with only 6+1 but with an extra mag I feel very confident with this rig.
Over 4 years and 5,000 rounds with no malfunctions.
I stake my life on it.About $550.00 in most locations.
The Glock 30 ,thicker and harder to conceal, but 10+1 would be my next choice.
Price about the same.
You cannot go wrong with either model, IMO.
If that is not quite it, then I like the Glock 19 in a Milt Sparks SSII, or a Tommy's Gunny sack fanny pack.

There is no "best".

I feel most comforted by my 45ACP Colt CCO, but my Kel-tec P32 is most comfortable. Most often I carry my .38 Special Airweight S&W J-frame, so I guess it's the happy medium.

xd sc mine is in .40 you get a great reliable, accurate, fast on target, low recoil, easily concealed gun with the option of full capacity mags with the grip sleeves. i carry mine with a 9rd mag and 2 12 rd mags with the grip extenstions as my back ups.
