I'm shopping for a new 9mm auto and these are the two choice I've came down to since their price range is in the same ball park. This will primarily be a CC piece.

I'm somewhat familiar with CZ as I used to own a CZ 75B, it was a very accurate and reliable all steel construction pistol. But I'm not too sure as how the 75BD version holds up as I heard the decocker causes some problems.

Beretta on the other hand I know nothing about. I see the 92FS is around the same price as a 75BD but the M9A1 cost a bit more, what's the difference? Can someone please educate me on the pros and cons of the 92 series?

At the moment I'm kind of leaning toward another CZ because I've had some very good experience with them, but I'm open minded and wouldn't mind switching to a Beretta if it's a better gun. After all it is the american military standard sidearm.

any advice would be appreciated

I have owned a few Berettas over the years. The 92 is an excellent gun. When U work the slide on the frame, it feels like its rolling on ball bearings. VERY smooth.

The frame also soaks up the recoil very nicely.

If U want, U can order a "D" spring (the spring from the DAo version) and put into your 92FS - and it will lighten the DA pull. Most of the people on the Beretta Forum has done this. It takes less than 5 min to do, and it very easy. People at the Beretta Forum can help U on where to buy one.

I've seen new 92's for sale as low as $409-$425 at Houston gun shows. Granted, I've never seen that price in a gun store. But, look around - U can find one at a good price.

what he said, same on my 96 Brigadier and on my 92FS. I saw a new CZ at a shop trying to compare which pistol to get, compared to my HK, the finish on the CZ looks like some kid painted it (ie crap). :barf:

CZs rock. Much easier to carry than the wide body Beretta, IMHO. The decocker has caused no issues whatsoever in my PCR or PO1. The beretta at the rental range I worked at was a fine and reliable pistol, certainly accurate enough, but just didn't fit me. The CZ fits me like a glove.
Which is better? Once again, IMHO, the CZ is a better pistol. I only own CZs, now, and I shot every pistol I could, when I worked at the rental range.
BTW, the CZ polycoat finish is quite durable. Mine has held up perfectly through many holsterings/unholsterings with little appreciable wear.

This is totally subjective, but I shoot my 75B MUCH better than any Beretta I have ever had my hands on. The CZ ergonomics are just much better for me. It's also shorter pistol, and therefor more easier to present and manuver than a Beretta. Both are top notch weapons, however.

If it's CCW you are looking for, you better check the concealability of the M92, it's a big pistol!

I like the decocker on the M92, it's accurate and reliable, but the grip is big for some causing problems with reaching the trigger.

The CZ will most likely be (as you probably know) very accurate, excellent grip and very reliable. I would bet it comes down to which one you can conceal better.

CZ's aren't about hype, they just work! IMHO you get much more substance for your money!

Good luck!

thank you all for your inputs, I think CZs are definitly a good value for it's lower price. So far I believe both pistols are accurate and reliable, but it seems like the 92fs is somewhat larger. I will be carrying the pistol via a shoulder holster under a jacket so the size isn't too big of an issue for me.

I guess what I really want to ask is this, is there something the Beretta 92fs does better than the CZ 75BD?

I prefer the 92fs. I have 2 92's and have shot 10's of 1000's of rounds through my Berettas and learned to shoot w/ a Beretta...IMO, the Beretta is the way to go!

I have yet to see anything that a Beretta, Sig or HK can do, that a CZ 75B/BD couldn't do. Except cost more.

14 Months ago, I bought a CZ 75BD for a "Range Gun", 7,000 rounds+ later, I'm now slowly trading off all my other autoloaders for CZ's.

Given what you outlined, I'd go with the CZ, too. Personally, I would take a BD over any FS version of a Beretta. I just hate the external safeties. A 92G model, though, might be a different story.

Another advantage of the CZ over the 92 is the ease for changing the sights. If you want to install night sights, you can do it yourself on the CZ.

An alternative to the 92 might be the PX4 Storm. That's my daily carry pistol. While I probably wouldn't choose a 92 over a CZ, I'd take the PX4 in a heartbeat.

I own four Berettas and 3 CZ's -- you'd be hard pressed to go wrong either way!

I would opt for the CZ, Beretta 92's feel very awkward and uncomfortable in my hand. CZ's are a joy. The 92's don't have a great rep with many of those who have carried them in combat.

Good vs Great

I've shot the Beretta 92 quite a bit, even had one issued for a while.
It's a good pistol, and seemed to be very reliable and accurate.
However, it's not a great pistol.
Reach to the trigger is excessive, and the action of the trigger is not that great.
The safety is counterintuitive. I prefer the safety on the older versions, (but they have a less than desireable magazine release location and crummy sights), or the Taurus versions.
They are unnecessarily bulky for the caliber.
Have seen the locking links shed their lugs, and a few barrels badly cracked just in front of the chambers, but this was after dreadful abuse. Returned to service with no ill effects once locking blocks were replaced.
Never seen a cracked slide!

Never cared much for the CZ's, until I spent some time with them.
Owned a few, and shot them a bit, but not a whole lot.
Quite a few friends had them.
VERY impressed! Good trigger, excellent ergonomics, reliable and very accurate.
Hogue grips on one of them has to be felt to be believed. Seriously, it makes the grip just wonderful.
Would be quite a bit easier to carry concealed than a B92 due to shape, lenght and bulk.
From all accounts and personal observation, appear very durable, with the possible exception of the compact model, which seemed to eat recoil springs.
I've been very impressed with almost all CZ pistols, with the glaring exception of the CZ70, which I liked less and less the more I dealt with them.

The above are my personal observations.
I carry neither of these firearms, and personally dislike the
Beretta intensely, or more correctly, the mentality that foisted it upon our armed services. Why have good, when great is available.

My first post, thought I'd jump in instead of just lurking.

Well, as others said - they are both great guns. Go hold both, and try to fire each - and see what YOU like the best :)

This is my exact complaint about the Baretta's and I could not agree more about the CZs.

"Feel" is a subjective thing, so I won't go there.

My issues are the width of the Beretta's slide for CC, plus I tend to shoot my firearms a lot and I don't trust aluminium-alloy frames not to wear out quickly.

If you decide on the CZ, take a look at the CZ P01, or the CZ PCR. Both have the decocker and would be a lot easier to conceal in a shoulder holster.

Never warmed up to 92FS since my military days:barf: . CZs are a joy and better value by far. The all-steel construction and slide-in-frame of CZ are winning features. Plus much better ergos.:p

See, I am the opposite. I've rented a CZ before at a range - just so so to me. Like the Beretta better. Stick in a D spring and the trigger is even nicer :)

I have a 92 compact that was my favorite handgun for a long time. Right up until I bought my CZ 75B. And the previous poster is right on about putting the Hogue rubber grips on. It's the best feeling handgun I've ever held. Also as stated, the CZ has a much more carry-friendly amount of mass to it. I would'nt feel insecure carrying either, but if I had a choice........CZ.

Last summer I went fishing with a couple of buddies, one of which had a Beretta 92F, that he brought along for some target shooting time when not on the water. Between the three of us we burned up over 500 rounds of Winchester 124gr FMJ. The Beretta worked quite well with only 2 malfunctions, was decently accurate, but felt a little strange in my hand. I am a 1911 guy and it's grip feels quite different. I had considered buying one, just on the reputation of this gun, for some fun plinking with my son, who received a CZ75D Compact for Christmas last year.....that is until I shot his CZ.

I recently traded one of my revolvers for a CZ75BD POLICE. I took it to the range Thursday, hoping to have a gun half as good as his......I was blown away by just how comfortable, accurate and dependable the CZ is. I put 100 rounds of the cheapest ammo I could buy at that range, through the gun, to see if it would shoot the junk stuff as well as the good stuff. It far exceeded my expectations. I really am glad I went for the CZ and am looking forward to taking it fishing and showing my buddies what a good shooting 9mm really is.
