CZ or XD? Need Help Quick

I was pretty set on a CZ 75 until I got a chance to handle a Springfield XD. I'm trying to decide which one to get. How do they compare in regards to reliability, durability, and accuracy? Are there any prebans for the XD?

Yes and no. Seems that for the 9mm, you can use Beretta Pre Ban mags and drill a hole in a particular spot to have them work. Or you can also use XD40 mags to stuff a few more 9mm rounds in.

Seems to be not worth the trouble unless you live somewhere where the AWB will not really be expiring for you.

Other than that, there really are not any complaints for either piece. One thing I seem to read about the XD is the finish wears fast, but the used ones I have actually seen don't seem to have any sort of unusual amount. And the CZ75 seems to have a slightly long reach for the trigger for some people, and a hard to grab slide. That about sums up the negs that I remember.
 
It depends on it's intended use. As a CCW...the XD wins hands down. As a range gun, I'd take a CZ. I've owned both and I made a concerted effort to carry a CZ 75B concealed and brother, that was tough. The PCR was nice though. If they come out with 14 round mags for it after the AWB expires I'll buy another.
 
They're both great guns, but my suggestion is that if you get the XD, get one with the stainless slide. I've seen and talked to a few people that have had problems with rust on their slides on the blued pistols.
 
Wow, talk about completely different guns. Reliability and accurac should be great with both guns. For me the CZ-75 fits like a glove, but the SC is pretty light. If you're looking to conceal the gun then I'd look at other CZs like the P-01 or Rami for a better comparison. If this is going to be a range gun I would get the CZ. CZ or XD - either way you're getting a great gun.
 
I've got an XD9 Tactical and a CZ75B SA. I wouldn't part with either. You should be deciding which one you'll get first. Both are reliable and durable. I'd have to give the accuracy to the CZ, but that may be the shooter.

Great articles. Those are some great looking pre-B models of the CZ75. What are the grips? They are very nice.

Ive had my xd-9 for two years this week, and have never had issues with the slide rusting. The CZ appeals to me too, but since I already have a hipower Im not likely to rush out and get one any time soon. BOth are great guns, pick the one that feels the best to you, or flip a coin. Either way you have a excellent gun.
 
I like the CZ better.

It has a slightly longer barrel, is slimmer thru the slide and frame, making IWB easier. The trigger complaint about it being to long in DA is only an issue if you carry it hammer down, I carry mine cocked and locked. The grip also conceals easier for me than does the grip of the CZ. It is every bit as accurate and reliable as the XD.


It really comes down to a matter of your preference.

Do you want a single action pistol with a thumb safety or with grip and trigger safeties?

The capacity is about the same, fit and finish are equally good, the polymer finish on the CZ is more durable than the blueing on the slide of the XD. I you get the stainless XD or the satin nickle CZ, it's a wash.

It really comes down to what you prefer and you can't go wrong either way.

I think Gary`s got it. You gotta have a CZ,there`s nothing quite like em. I LOVE my 75B and 40P. The standard 75s are really svelt.smooth and for me easy to conceal even under a T shirt. The XDs are much bulkier,thicker,taller through the slide,higher bore axis. But they`re cool in their own right. I just ordered a .40 XD Sub Compact myself. :) Marcus

Hmm, tough call ... I jumped on the CZ-75 bandwagon back in the early 90s (when they were hard to find). Incredibly reliable, but also quite good-lookin' pistols ... can a gun be considered sexy? Anyway, the ergonomics are great, hi-cap mags plentiful, it's an accurate pistol ... The compact version conceals reasonably well (not as blocky as the XDs). And now they come with decockers, most excellent. But then, I've lately been considering trading in my Glocks for XDs, too ... they feel "right" in the hands and have some good features lacking on the Glocks.
 
i have an xd 40 fullsize. if i had to do over again, i'd probably get a sig or usp. the xd is having some problems, check out www.hs2000talk.com. some are rusting, some of the guide rods are breaking ($20.00 will get you a don's guide rod which will fix that), some are breaking down after 1000+ rounds, and some aren't ejecting right.

one of the main things i don't like about it is the fact that if you look at the back of the slide there's an opening there which makes it very easy for sand, dirt, whatever to get inside your pistol.

with that said, i've got 350 rounds through mine with no problems and love how it feels in my hand (after i added a hogue grip sleeve) and wouldn't trade it for a usp or sig. from what i've read at h2000talk.com , the stainless steel slide is NOT stainless steel, i definately incourage you to take a look and read. if you get a good one, you'll love it. if not, well....

I've owned four XDs and haven't had any rust problems whatsoever. My first XD-9 had problems with extraction using WWB and S&B ammo due to the fact that it had the old style extractor. My new XD-9 is 100% reliable with all the ammo I have tried.

I'm a big believer in CZ's, especially the CZ-75 platform.

That being said:

1) IIRC, I believe this poster had some issues with CZ' previously. Not a bad idea to consider starting fresh with something else.

2) The XD is a terrific little gun

3) Springfield themselves did some Beretta mod's making several 17/12 versions available. CTD claims to have some in stock. The impending AWB sunset should make the Springfield even more attractive.

4) XD is probably a little easier to operate because the physical safety is integrated into the grip.

I enjoy the CZ-75 more than the XD's I've fired (compare favorably to my Glocks). However, if physical inspection has this poster thinking about the XD...sounds like a positive "fitting experience". It would be even better if a rental (or buddy-borrow) experience could be arranged, but since prices are similar, I see know reason why the XD-9 wouldn't make a fine alternative to some folks...the original poster included.

Everyone here knows by now I am a CZ/CZ clone kinda guy. I did know one guy who had an HS2000 before Sprignfeil;d bought the Croation Sensation, and he raved about it. Personally, I would carry my CZ75 PO1 first, as I really like the ergonomics and accuraccy of the PO1. Try which one fits the best, and go from there.:)
 
I have both and I'm not about to part with either. I've had no problems with either one. Buy the on that fits your hand best. Since you seem to like both you will probably buy both eventually so you can't go wrong with whatever one you decide on first.
 
I prefer the CZ-75 PO1 because of the way it fits in the hand. I don't like the gripp safety in the XD's which is another place for dirt to come in. The press release on the testing made on the PO-1's made me stop and look. The CZ pistols have proven their ruggedness and reliability for quite a long time. If they made improvements on an already good gun (like the CZ-75) then they get my money.

The magazines for the regular CZ-75 pistols also fit the PO-1 which is a good thing (a higher capacity back-up mag) for me.

The recoil on the PO-1's are great. It is a bit muzzle heavy contributing to the absorption of felt recoil (which is already quite easy on the 9mms).

Also the finish of the PO1 is definitely a tad better than the XD's.

cz po1 developed in 99 for czech police issue. the 01 is smaller and lighter than 75 b. updates include mechanical deckocking feature and an accessory rail. the 01 is built to more stringent specs. cz 75 design is 30 yrs old. licensed and unlicenced copies are norinco nu75, jsl spitfire, jericho 941, tz 75, star 30, itm-84. springfiel p9. cz 75 uses elements from sig p210, walther and s&w.most copied pistol design since the gov't model.paraphrased from combat handguns article by gene gangrosa..
