here at the range they have a glock 19 for rent but not a cz sp01... ive narrowed it down to the two... glock 19 yes reliable but hideous.. and the cs sp01 i love the looks and im leaning towards that one mostly.. what about you guys which one would you get?

When in doubt go for the one you lean towards.

I love CZs and I hate Glocks. You'll have the next guy say he loves Glocks and hates CZs. Both of us will be careful to say the other gun works flawlessly but just doesn't mesh with him. Then a third guy will say he had a CZ that didn't work worth a hoot, get the Glock. That's when the fourth guy will tell you the Glock is a piece of junk, get the CZ. This is the cue for the "get a real gun like my SIG/1911/XD" phase of the thread.

Once you make it to a certain list of manufacturers, and Glock and CZ are both on it, I repeat: Just get the one that floats your boat. You can bet your life on either gun without a second thought.

i turn 21 in a month so im getting a 9mm first...ive gone shooting already so im almost posotive im going to get the cz sp01 ... after that and i get money im investing in the sig p220 stainless :)

In my case I have gone w/ the G19. Y? Well, I had some hi cap mags alreday & I got a nice deal on my Glock. Plus, I have shot the 19 before & knew I would be able to shoot it alright.
But, if you already prefer the CZ, get that one ;)

yes mainly looks .. ive never shot it and i wont have a chance to because they dont have one at the range...they have a glock 19 though.. but im leaning towards the cz....

The SP-01 will shoot rings around a Glock 19 all day long. Far superior as a combat handgun. If you're looking for a range gun or home defense weapon, SP-01.

The SP-01 is all steel and too heavy and too big for CCW, on the other hand. If you're looking for a weapon for concealed carry, Glock 19 is a better choice (or the subcompact CZs like the P-01).

I have an SP01 as my #1 range gun and it's a lotta fun to shoot. The factory recoil spring was too heavy for standard loads, so I replaced it with a lighter spring from Ghostholster. Also replaced the main spring with a lighter spring. Trigger is pretty bad and could use some work. Quite a bit of creep. But it's very accurate.

The only negatives are that it weighs a ton (which is ok for a range gun) and the Czechs must have huge hands as the trigger reach is too long for me to shoot it in DA mode. It's perfect in SA mode.

If you're looking for a carry gun go with something lighter. But I'll take a P01 or SP01 any day as a range gun.

I have both of these pistols. They are so radically different your question is rediculous.

Easy guys. Magnumman, the question is not ridiculous. Jfranzen is new, and he's got to learn somewhere. THR is a place for folks to learn and share their experiences, not bash folks with honest questions. I've experience with Glocks, but not CZs. Since you own both, down to the specific models Jfranzen is asking about, please compare and contrast them for him and the rest of Magnumman. If you would, please tell us about size, weight, action, trigger feel, ergonomics, fit, finish, reliability, and any other pertinent details you feel we should know about each pistol. Thank you in advance.

I have owned several Glocks and several CZ's. I sold all my Glocks and I'm still buying CZ's.
The two models you mentioned don't have a lot in common. One is a lightweight carry gun and the other is too heavy for IDPA competition.
You probably need to decide what characteristics you need or want in a pistol and go from there.

geez... there are tons of rude people on this forum.. i am new...im just asking questions and soaking up all the info i can get..i went shooting with a retired marine and i loved it and ever since i joined im just learning and learning and looking at guns so in a month i will purchase my own handgun.. but people like whats his face makes this place not soo enjoyable..

Hmm, let me chime in, OK? First, welcome! Second, you need to wrap you hands around a PO1, PCR, or SP01. The SP01 is a large all steel duty size pistol. Does that mean it's too heavy? Not. I carried an all steel full size gun CCW for years. A good holster makes the differance, there.
I can't stand G-rocks. That' just me. I love CZ, that's also just me. But, I will say my $.02 is the CZ PCR might be the slplit the differance gun for you, lightweight, decocker, low profile sights, and 14 round mag. Plus, you get a pistol that doesn't have to be "burped" when you put a mag in.:neener:

I'm a big fan of the CZ series and clones. If it's just going to be a range and HD gun, the CZ is the way to go. For HD, range and carry (gulp:eek: ) the Glock is the way to go. The weight and size of the CZ will become tiresome after a while.

The CZ has a manual safety that you can use to carry the gun cocked and locked if you choose. Or you can carry the gun uncocked and with the safety off, just like a Sig Sauer pistol. Those options make the CZ very good IMO.

Buy what feels best to you.

I own a CZ P-01. I'm not sure about the SP-01 but I do not think it can be carried cocked-and-locked. I believe it has a decocker like the P-01 does. I would love to own an SP-01 simply because I have recently discovered how great CZ firearms are. In March I bought the P-01. A few months later I bought the CZ 97B .45 ACP. Both are great guns and are very accurate. The P-01 fits my hand perfectly. Everyone who holds it is impressed with how comfortable it is. Neither CZ has had any malfunctions. The P-01 has between 1200-1400 rounds through it. The 97 has about 500.

I also own a Glock 17. I've owned it for 14 years. Great gun. Reliable. I never worry about it getting wet or dirty. I have fired many 1000's of rounds through it. Glock is the gun that people love to hate. There is nothing wrong with Glock. I'm very glad to have one.

You cannot go wrong with either gun. I shoot my Glock well also. BTW, before buying the 19, hold the 17 and compare the differences in grip. It isn't only that one grip is shorter than the other. The 19 has its heel-swell (or whatever it's called) higher up on the backstrap. Some prefer this. Others like how the 17's grip feels. The 19 would be easier to conceal, though its dimensions are only slightly smaller.

In my neck of the woods few people have ever even heard of CZ. When they see me shoot the P-01 they ask, "What is that?" My point is that you should get what fits and feels best to you, not what everyone else claims is the best. Having said that, I confess that the only reason I ever considered getting a CZ was because I continually read nothing but praise about them here on THR. I had never even held or seen a P-01 (other than in pictures on the internet) when I decided that it would be my next pistol. My 97 is as accurate as 1911's that cost twice what I paid for the CZ. But there is nothing wrong with paying good money for a quality 1911 (or Sig 220) if that is what feels good to you.

There are actually three variants of the SP-01.

The base model has a standard safety. The Tactical model has a decocker. The Shadow model is tricked for target shooting and has a safety, no decocker.

jfanzen,

I used to carry a G19, until I bought my CZ75 P01 and then the G19 went on nightstand duty. For me the CZ75 P01 shoots more accurately and has a better fit in my hand.

When I started hankering for a full size I got a CZ75BD, then a CZ75B and sold my G19. The G19 is an awesome handgun, it just didn't fit my hand well, and I couldn't shoot it accurately. Other shooter had no problems with it. In my hand all the CZs have been accurate, easy to point, and they soak up the snappy recoil of 9mm.

Beware of buying CZs (whether it be rifles or handguns). They are addicting, buy at your own peril. Good quality products at fair prices. Good luck with your decision.

regards,

Luis Leon

well itsmostly going to be a range gun.. im not going to carry it or anything like that...im turning 21 in a month and im going to pick it up.. and decocker? i have no idea...what you guys are talking about with the base model the tactical model and the shadow model..???

www.cz-usa.com

Look under the SP-01. There are basically three variants. First, there's the model with the decocker. Basically, if the hammer's cocked, you press down on the decocker to safely lower the hammer. There is no manual safety to prevent you from pulling the trigger--the decocker simply transitions the gun from single action mode to double action mode. The second model has the manual safety and no decocker. With the hammer cocked, you can activate the safety, and the gun will not fire. This is what is commonly known as "cocked and locked." The third model is the Shadow, which basically is the same as the second, but with some upgrades (hammer, sights, grips).

I may be wrong, but you seem kinda new to the world of firearms. You're in the right place--this forum is filled with great info, and you should get to reading as much as you can post haste. A basic firearm safety course of some sort may also be in order. Hold off on purchasing your first handgun til you've done both. That's prolly the best bit of advice I could give you.

As to your original question: I own (or owned) a Glock 17, a Glock 19, a Glock 34, a CZ SP-01, a CZ P-01, a CZ 75b Tactical, and a Kadet kit. They're all fine weapons, reliable as heck, and more accurate than 90% of their owners can hold. That said, the SP-01 and Glock 19 are different animals and really cannot be compared (it's like comparing an Accord to a Civic). If it's going to be your only gun, and it's mainly a range gun that will double as a home defense gun, then I'd suggest getting the CZ with the Kadet .22 conversion kit. GREAT training combo. Gets the nod in terms of accuracy (although Glocks are no slouch in that department, either), while the Glock gets the nod in terms of durability and reliability. IOW, I think the CZ SP-01 makes a better range gun, while the Glock 19 makes a better working gun.

Just my opinion. :)

go for the SP-01. i am picking mine up tomorrow (hopefully, but thats a whole different thread), and i have been chomping at the bit. yeah the Glock is scary reliable, but if you are looking for a range gun, the weight and accuracy of the sp-01 will definitely be better than the glock. the SP-01 is winning IPSC left and right. i was in the same predicament, first handgun, lots of choices, and i chose the CZ. people say it shoots as good as a gun twice its price, and its built like a tank. you will not buy just one gun, think of that, so snag something cool and kind of currently obscure, then snag the "i could pound a nail and shoot with the same gun" purchase, be it sig or glock for the next purchase. just make sure you hold the SP-01 first, b/c the trigger can be a little far out there for some. good luck!

P-01

the P-01 is really more comparable to the 19 than the sp-01 in terms of weight and size....as said before the sp-01 is HEAVY....I would definitely recommend comparing the P-01 and the 19 before you decide to get/order a SP-01
