DA/SA in .45acp?

The .45ACP S&W pistols are included with full specs and MSRP on their new web site, so they might still be available new. The 3rd generation S&W .45 pistols are highly rated. I own three different models and have had good luck with all of them, though I'm considering going back to the 1911 platform. The carbon steel 1911 that S&W makes looks like a real nice pistol...

And I agree that the transition to DA/SA takes some practice. Sometimes I would almost have a DAO if just for the consistent trigger pull.

I'd throw another vote for the Sig 220. I have an earlier model and love it. Accurate, easy to carry and utterly reliable. Its really a fantastic pistol and I kick myself for not buying one of these earlier on.

CDNN sometimes sells pre-owned Sig 220s at a reasonable price. You can often pick up a nice 220 that is used, but to me, the brand new Sig 220 is rather pricey. I bought mine used and it shoots like it is new. Saved about 300 bucks, too.

To me, the 245 Sig's grip seems too stubby. I also find the USP's grip too blocky and chunky. They're probably both great guns and if you have big hands, they might fit you.

I too liked the grip on the Baby Desert Eagle - thats another I'd look at, because it is certainly priced right and the grip is fantastic. My concearns with this pistol would be avaialbility of magazines and holster choices. Everybody and their dog makes Sig 220 holsters, but 45 Baby Eagle holsters? You might have to dig around and the choices might be a little limited.

On the S&W 4506...

2. I hate the ergos. Try it and see if you like it. Feel is subjective. You might adore it.

I like the ergos. However, I'm left-handed. I like the ambi safety, and the 4506 is one of the few auto-loaders with controls that I can operate easily with my index finger. This is the main reason that I avoid Sigs - I find them very hard to operate left-handed.
