My tenant who's leaving this weekend came over to let me know the details...and to say that his mailbox has been smashed to smithereens again! I made the comment that society is going to hell in a handbasket. Well, that opened up a 45-minute discussion between him and me.

Some of his "jewels"

1. He's against repealing Roe v Wade because he sees it has an erosion of civil rights (not to get into the abortion debate, but that is big for him because he hates government intrustion in our lives and feels like preventing a woman from having choice over her body is such an intrusion) but thinks that all guns should be registered, you shouldn't have a go-fast switch, and spouted those BS statistics about having a gun in the home. Seems like the erosion of civil rights only applies to those he wants to have.

2. His father is set up nicely for retirement BECAUSE OF THE UNION. I asked him how my grandfather and mother have been so successful after retirement without the union. I also asked him if was saying that his father was too stupid to prepare for his own retirement, because if the UNION was the reason his dad was successful, removal of that factor would mean his dad would have failed, yes?

3. Thinks social security is a good thing, but doesn't think that a private account with people paying into it (think: paying the same way by income witholding, but into a personal account instead of the fed's general fund) is better than the system we have now. He kept arguing that his daughter making $7/hr at Mickie D's wouldn't allow her to put anything into savings while trying to raise her son. I couldn't get him to understand that she would be paying the same way, the same amount, but it would be into a savings account solely for HER. Then he asks me what account earns money that way. Oh, I don't know, just about every interest-bearing account out there. THe girl is only 29. If she put all that soc. sec. money into a private account that earned interest and kept it there (compounding, mind you) until age 65, she'd be set. And it wouldn't be anymore money out of her pocket than it is now.

The list goes on and on.

I just want to know why I even bothered. I've been down that path before. Why? Why? :banghead:

You do it for the same reason I do...

...In the hopes that one day, one of them might see the light.

I've actually managed to get 3 bona fide MMM members to get their CCW's and join the NRA in the last 3 years.

HonorsDaddy,

OUTFREAKINSTANDING !!!!

That's is the best thing I've heard all week. I guess that knocks the membership of MMM down to less then half a dozen.

WELL DONE, SIR !!!

I seem to know quite a few people who used to think the same way, until they became a victim of crime...

Maybe you enjoy watching the flecks of spittle fly as they get worked up?

I enjoy doing some liberal baiting myself.

Cause you like pain?

Nah seriously it is fun...since the election and hurricane I have pissed off so many liberals who were boarderline buddys (barly sorta somewhat we arnt talking best friend here) it is amazing.

And it is jsut plain amazing how easy it is too....it is almsot unthinkable. My violent when drinking alcoholic uncle cant be provolked into an argument that easily as msot liberals.

And in the process you catch the occasional one that had some hope left for them and turned them to the dark side

I enjoy that, too. Gonna pick me a "fight" with a liberal today again. Well, actually I'm just going to probe a little... still fun, if it weren't so depressing.

You should try chemistry. What you did was like turning lead into gold. Well, not quite, since the first material is supposed to be worthless. But lead is quite useful to us, and we spend a lot of money to get it, so the analogy isn't very accurate.

Seriously, though: How on earth did you accomplish that?!? Please, master, enlighten us!

Lupinus, I'm shocked! We stand for freedom and liberty, for the protection of individual and civil rights. We are the light side! ;)

Plus, we a guided by logic, they are driven by emotion. Ours is the path of the Jedi, theirs is the path of the Sith.

Time and patience - a lot of both - and a little bit of luck. I think the key in all cases is they knew me and my wife and liked us before they realized we were gun owners. From there, it didnt take as much work as you'd think to make them realize that everything the Brady Bunch had been telling them was a lie.

Believe it or not - they are people and if you treat them that way, more often than not, they listen. It is when we dismiss them out of hand that they come to believe we are nothing more than the knuckle-dragging psychopaths that Brady and friends like to pretend we are.

I think I'm losing patience with this sort of thing. Way off topic after the first post, which was pretty tangential itself.

Where's the bow-down and worship smiley? I'm not worthy...I'm not worthy... :)
