An AR-15?? Isn't that like an assualt rifle?? :what:

Did it blow his leg off? Did it travel up the bone and attack his heart???? I am surprised that he lived threw it. I read a story put out by the Brady Campaign, those are some brave people by the way, where someone was shot at with an assualt rifle and even though the bullets missed the guy, they still killed him. Something about the sonic boom that those rounds cause when the miss a target so that they can still take out the target....

man, that gus is SOOOOO lucky... Assualt weapons just start shooting sometimes, that is why those Brady folks want to get rid of them... After this article, I am certainly going to give them some money.

:neener:

When his foot gets better he will probably want to kick himself.

At least no innocent person was harmed in this incident.

Note: I do not consider the person who was personally responsible for the ND to be innocent.

I bet his buddies are thinking real hard about him though. Wondering how many times his rifle was pointed at their feet instead of in a safe direction.

Is there an epidemic in this country with LEO's shooting themselves? I keep hearing these stories, all different. Usually its handguns, like a Glock.

On a different note, I think that Police should only be allowed to use what a civillian in a state like California could use. See how the gun laws work after that. I can see police complaining how tough it must be to have a fixed magazine AR and have to reload with stripper clips.

Lavere,

If there wasn't a mechanical malfunction of the firearm then he had to have the weapon off safe, with his finger on the trigger, while pointed at something he was (presumably) not willing to shoot.

Thus it was negligence on his part. Had any one of the standard firearms safety rules been followed, he wouldn't have shot himself.

I kind of doubt it. I think what is happening is they are having a much harder time hiding these incidents.

At least it was only once. I know of an officer who has shot himself in the same place on three different occasions. He was also shot in the same leg by another officer wile serving a warrant. AND HE STILL IS AN LEO, go figure?

Unless he leaves voluntarily, it is unlikely anyone is going to fire him for shooting himself (or anyone else for that matter). One would think after managing to shoot himself three times he would figure it is time to move on to other employment.

Not long ago, there were some local cops that got drunk and shot up a golf course after hours while golfing naked from the waist down. I don't recall what happened to them, if anything.

As for scrapping the raid after the shooting, gee I hope so. I know that if I'm sitting on the couch eating fried okry and drinking root beer and hear a gunshot at my front door, I will be pointing a gun at the door.

Imagine trying jackbootery after the element of surprise has done echoed across the neighborhood.

I'm not sure <BANG> "POLICE!" <crash> in comes the door gives the suspect any more time to react than "POLICE!" <crash> in comes the door.

Using the ND as the "go" signal, not puttering around wondering what happened then going.
