Ever found out somehow that someone was a concealed carry license holder, and then found it as a surprise to you, with them not being what you envisioned as the stereotypical CCW'er? If so, describe them and why he/she didn't seem to fit the mold - physical appearance? Hobbies & interests? Mild-mannered pacifist? What?

I only know one of my friends who carries and he's a big gun nut who i often shoot with so it wasn't that big a surprise. In fact it'd be more of a surprise if he didn't carry.

The little asian guy at the corner c-store. Nice guy, I see him almost daily and we talk although he's got barely enough english to get by. Once day I was wearing my Maxpedition pack and he really liked it, said it looked it like it could hold his 1911 when he carries.

After I got over the initial surprise I thought it was awesome -- "you go, dude!"

If I was Michael Moore, I'd be packing too. There are a few dozen people that don't like me, but there are MILLIONS who hate that idiot!

Maybe we should do a scam documentary about him...........

I know some people I'm surprised were allowed a CCW permit, but around here it's basically a matter of filling out the form and waiting a week. I was a bit surprised when they gave me mine, being that I had a couple of felonies when I was young and stupid, which are now protected under youthful offender status.

When I applied for the permit, I had a guy from the sheriff's dept call and ask me why it said I had never been arrested, but he was able to see a $50,000 bond on my name from 2000. I explained that I was Y.O. and was under the impression that I didn't need to say I had ever been arrested. He asked me what I was in trouble for, I told him LSD and explained the situation. He was like "Oh, I see, they got you on a technicality. Well, come on down here and get your permit."

Right on.

Most of my friends with CCWs came to me first for help, so no surprises there. A lot of people are shocked to find out that my wife carries every day- even to work. When they make a big deal of it she just tells them "its just like the aspirin in my purse, there if I need it- but I hope I don't".

The gal that took out her Kimber Ultra CDP to show me the smooth finger groove panels on it when I was interested in buying some, but didn't know how they would feel. She was petite little thing, and I can certainly understand why she carries. Just a customer like me, she wanted to help, and I was grateful. I bought the grips and they now grace my UCDP.

I found out recently my sister has a ccw license. Turns out when she had to do the background check for her daycare service she runs out of her home, the ccw permit was only about an additional $50 because of the same background check for each; she took the test, passed and got her license. I'm really proud of her, and a little jealous that I haven't had time (or mainly money) to get my ccw license yet.

You should be surprised by everyone you find out is a CONCEALED carrier. If you know, then they're not concealing real well

Not necessarily. In my county the damn newspaper prints everyones name that gets a CHP.

What? Where do you live that convicted felons get to legally carry guns?

Youthful Offender (Y.O.) falls outside that definition. Should it? I don't have an opinion, at this time, but I do think it should depend on the infraction.

I'm the editor of a business magazine and was interviewing a guy I'd interviewed a half dozen times before. He's a big time commercial real estate developer.

For some reason shooting came up in the conversation. We were both carry KT P32s in our back pockets. That was kind of a surprise, but I was really surprised when he invited me to come visit him at home and see some of the 200+ guns in his collection.

Knew the guy for years and we never spoke of firearms before.

A local man that was prohibated form owning firearms... til I found out how much money he donated to the sheriffs relection campign... Then it became perfectly clear.

I'd go with 'me' as well. When joining my local gun club, they have you stand up and talk about yourself and why you wanted to join. After my intro (just moved from California, related to university education), the president looked at me and asked, "What the hell are you doing HERE?". :neener:
