LHello all,
About a decade ago some on this site helped me to choose my first handgun, I've owned firearms since I was 12 but never felt the need for a handgun till an attempted home invasion...

Back then I was single, I now have 2 childern of my own a stepson and a fairly openminded wife of 8 yrs who over the years has made me sell off all my firearms, she didn't want them around the children... I sold my last firearm almost two years ago and have regretted it since but at the time I was desperate to feed my kids and well they come first in my book so...

Over the years my wife has had no desire to own any firearms at all, she was never afraid of them she just worried that the children would somehow get ahold of one and disaster would ensue. Throughout this time I've tried to get her to understand that they are simply a tool that you hope you never need...

I'm proud to say that I've not only gotten through to her but back around Valentines SHE convinced ME that we needed some HD as we were walking through Bass Pro! I almost died right there when she suggested we look at handguns... long story short we picked up a couple px4 storm compacts one in 9mm and one in .40 S&W...

Took her to the range, got her a membership, been training her since... She had little experience, only ever shot about 50 rnds from a Glock .40 over a decade ago... She has now still only fired off about 200 rnds total in her life and most of that just two weeks ago. I've watched her grouping dial in from 18"+ @ 7yrds to 6"-8" @ 7yrds a few towards the end of the range session even tighter.

WOW what a change in her! She now is talking of competitave shooting as a hobby (only hobby she has ever had is reading books) and bugging me to get her back to the range :what::what::eek:

Every time I hear her say "I ain't going out like that!" I shiver with delight!
Not sure why she changed but happy she did! I'm currently in the process of enroling her in the training course for her CHL:D
Anyway, I remember reading about all you guys that have wives like mine is now and being jealous, wishing I had a girl like that! Now I do

My kids have grown up with guns, shoot them at the gun club, and hunt with them. The curiosity is gone and they have a healthy respect. I never did this with my father and handled the one and only rifle in our house wiithout his knowledge on many occasions. Be smart and safe and enjoy the new pistols and time with wife. I will add, never let anyone MAKE you get rid of something. Your home and family are safer with two experienced firearm owners than without.

I'd really like for my kids to grow up with them, and pass mine along. Seems I now have the chance to make that happen and already have plans to get my stepson a pellet/BB gun and start training him... I never thought this day would come! We are curently in the process of teaching firearm safty in our home... Never too early to start that!

I know I shouldn't have let her make me sell off what I had but had little choice at the time, I had no safe nor anywhere to put one as we lived in a tiny little apartment and money was unbeliveably tight...
I did manage to hang on to an old carcano rifle from WWI by storing it at my brothers but only because it had little to no value to anyone but me.

My dad was never really part of my life, left when I was 2 and never bothered to visit, call, write or pay any support... that's probably why I dote on my children and am ALWAYS there for them.

This has been an interresting development to say the least, we now have a house, wife has a good job, I'm a stay at home dad and I get to spend all my time with them and couldn't be happier... Now that the wifes attitude has changed I find I have every thing I ever wanted in life...

I am looking forward to the future and sharing these experiences with my children, they already go fishing, camping and kayaking with me, now we have another experience we can share... I'm stoked!
