I went to the show this weekend and bought a new 380. I got tired of the Kel-tec, LCPs overpriced Sigs and Kahr that are not availiable.

I AM NOT KNOCKING ANY OF THEM!!!!

For me I wanted something else so I went and found this http://www.diamondbackfirearms.com/

Here's the review http://gunblast.com/Diamondback380.htm

First hand impressions:

It looks like a baby Glock:what:

It disassembles exactly like a Glock:scrutiny:

Feels great in the hand and is a locked-breech instead of a blow back type action.

Lifetime warrenty to the orignal owner and fits the kel-tec mags.

I can't wait to go to the range with it.

Diamond Back is a new compamny with this as their first new gun. Usually I don't buy first run production guns, but I have a good feeling about them. They are trying to make it in the pistol world and if something does go wrong, I'm sure they will make it right as they don't want to get a bad rep or spend all their money just to stop production.

They seem to have a great product that Glock should have come out with if they truely were interested in the civilian market. ( I am a Glock Fan)

DB will be coming out with a new 9mm in the next coming year. Bet it looks like a Glock but in single stack form.

Let you all know how it does after the range.

Ghostrider there are a number of threads and posts on the Diamondback here on the Highroad where you can get some firsthand information.

I think the Diamondback has great potential and think you will like it very much.

Here are just a few links on it.

I'm waiting to see how the 380 shakes out in the long run...then if they bring out a 9m/m single stack, I'm in.

It will have to beat the Kel-Tec PF9 in all areas though...that thing is just so made to carry!

Anyone seen any holsters that'll fit? Unfortunately, my brain is starting to go into overdrive and I'm thinking about trading down on my 709 Slim into a true pocket pistol.

So the P3AT mags fit the Diamondback? Hmmm...

Wow, forward serrations on a subcompact .380acp?

Interesting design.

Single Stack

Just got off the phone with DB to order my pinky extend mag. WHile chatting with the guy he informed me that they will be coming out with a single stacked 9mm pistol that looks just like their 380 (AKA Glock):what:

I can't wait!!!!!

It may end up taking the place of my G27, but we'll see. :neener:

So who wants to bet there is going to be a lawsuit from glock coming soon?

I got to hold one of these yesterday and it feels and looks like a much improved keltec ( considering it is made by one of their employees).

Gelgoo,it's my understanding that the patent has expired on the Glock design.
Hence no lawsuit is coming.
I am probably heading to the range tomorrow afternoon so stay tuned to hopefully better news than the first range session I had with my Diamondback.

I'm thinking about trading down on my 709 Slim into a true pocket pistol.

Why do that? Keep the 709 when you want more gun. For me my lcp and 709 are the perfect concealed carry duo.

That diamond back looks nice, but I'm still going to wait and see. I usually wait a couple years before buying a brand new product.

This gun looks much better than the Keltec and LCP in my opinion. It is not close to my Sig238 but then again that's not the target for them.

My sentiments exactly. The Sig P238 is just so much nicer then the competition. However If I had to pick anything else, then I would probably go with the diamondback.

doesn't mean glock still won't try to sue for royalties. Either way glock really screwed the pooch on this one, they could have just downsized their gun and had tons of loyal fans buying them.

Because I already have a S&W 6906 that I carry more to begin with. I originally got the 709 thinking I could use it as a deep-conceal pistol, but I've never been able to really pocket-carry it. So, now that there a few more options in the .380 world for pocket carrying, I want one of them.

Comparing the P238 and the Diamondback is like comparing apples and oranges.

The Diamondback is smaller, Less expensive, striker fired double action only (what I prefer for pocket carry) and from what I have read more reliable than the first wave of P238s.

I'm sure Sig will get the P238 reliability problems fixed, but right now I wouldn't want to depend on the little Sig.

Well, and absolutely no disrespect intended to those of you who have bought, or might be considering the purchase of a Diamondback 380, I have found out the hard way that buying a new, early series, ANYTHING is generally not a wise move.

I'm old, (67)and I've learned the hard way that being a "beta tester" for any manufacturer is not as much fun as you might think.

In firearms alone I did that for North American Arms (Guardian), Taurus PT22 (rimfire), Beretta Tomcat (32cal.) and before that the Charter Arms "Pathfinder" (rimfire revolver)...

I'm slow to learn, but I think I'll be passing on a low series, new model anything, ESPECIALLY a firearm I might consider for self defense use.

My wife wanted a new Toyota "Venza" SUV last year.. We looked at them, and I told her we'd wait a couple of years for them to get the bugs out, and revisit the interest.. But not with the first year model.

Now, if you buy a Diamondback and it performs wonderfully for you, then I'm full of crap.

But on the other hand, IF you buy a Diamondback and it turns out to have issues, bugs, warts....

Well, you heard it first right here.

Again, just personal opinion from an old redneck who never lets facts sway his opinion on anything.

Best Wishes,

Jesse

PX15 I'm a bit older than you, but only by 10 years and I learned a long time ago to grab the brass ring when I could.

After a little research it was clear to me that the Diamondback was going to be an above average pistol in it's category and after handling one and seeing the level of fit and finish I was satisfied and purchased one.

So far with about 200 rounds through it there are no bugs or warts and I'm much more than just satisfied with it's better than average sights and accuracy and unless it suddenly falls apart it will be in my pocket 100% of the time.

Unlike most pocket 380 pistols I can shoot the DB all day.

Kokapelli:

Hey, glad you are well pleased with your Diamondback...

Everyone has an opinion on everything ("Quot capita tot sensus"), and it seems the various personalities found on the gun forums are about as good at that expressing personal opinions as you can find any place.

So, I was just offering mine, and it gives me pleasure that you have found your Diamondback to be a great choice.

At this point I know very little about the new Diamondback, so all I was saying is that in my personal experience buying a new model 'something" had been iffy for me.

Glad the Diamondback hasn't been iffy for you..

Best Wishes,

jesse

No Problem PX15 and I understand what you said and don't disagree. I just wanted to point out that I did my research before making up my mind.

I am really looking at the db380 now. Does anyone know where i can pick one up for cheap:) I really like the looks, size, and the reveiws of this handgun. I think it is going to find its way into my pocket in the next couple of days.

I shot the DB380 a couple of weeks ago. A friend bought one, and I will buy one soon.. He was rattled by it at first because he had a FTE and an FTF. Turns out that he shouldn't have asked, because we had a field day watching him limp-wrist. After the dust settled, it came to a conclusion that because of the dual-spring, lesser recoil of the DB, it was more sensitive to limp wrist syndrome.
After that got sorted out, it was a fantastic pistol to shoot, I am looking forward to shooting it again after he gets the extended mag, and when my gun shop gets the next order in I will have my hands on one..
Great gun, $340.00 out the door, small enough to conceal darn near anywhere.

That's a good price Ron.
Mine was $325.00 and after taxes $351.00.
I reluctantly sent mine back to DB this past Friday to get the magazine release issue repaired.
Prior to that incident it was performing really well.
At round number 218 it started popping the magazine out after each and every shot.
I read over at the new Diamondback forum that another guy was experiencing this same issue.
Fwiw my serial # is ZA 18xx.
Hopefully I will get mine back very soon and this issue will never happen again.
