Dillon customer service complaint

If they do not manufacture the plastic tubes any more how are they going to replace them? Maybe it is logical to get the new Al tubes as a replacement? Maybe it is not? I do not know the Dillon warranty but were the tubes warranted at the time of sale or would they be an "accessory" that might not have been covered forever? Any way an interesting windmill for you to tilt, I guess. The idea of thousands of primers sitting around in tubes is a little frightening to me. The concept of a forever warranty is a little unclear to me also. The idea that you should have 200 new Al tubes because you grandfather bought the original plastic tubes? I am going to have to think on that one a while longer myself.

So these are 40-45 year old -- plastic -- parts?

For who’s lifetime is the lifetime warranty good for? The original purchaser’s lifetime or the original purchasers descendants’ lifetimes in perpetuity?
It’s the life of the machine.
When does a machine's life end? When the manufacturer stops making it? When they stop stocking parts for it? When they decide that it's dead?

I don't have a Dillon press, but do have some Dillon products and they are top quality. If I ever replace my RCBS Pro 2000, it will be with a Dillon because of their reputation for quality and service and the experience of my 2 best reloading buddies with Dillon presses. That said, if RCBS had not discontinued the Pro 2000 and its primer feed system, it would still be my press of choice if I were buying a new one. RCBS customer service has always been outstanding for me.

As for OP's "problem", I can see Dillon (and any other brand) pushing back on replacing hundreds of 40 year old plastic primer tubes that they no longer produce, original receipts or not. Maybe replace enough of them to run the machine, but not hundreds of them. And I can't say that I wouldn't have reacted to the OP's attitude same as the Dillon rep did.

I didn't have an attitude until he went high and mighty and played the power trip card.

Either there is a life time warranty or there is not on Dillon product.

My tubes no longer work and should be covered that warranty.

They were bought from Dillon

What more can you argue?
 
Sometimes cs reps are aholes. Sometimes they start the attitude. Sometimes they are at fault.

As much as I like Dillon's cs and their products, I have been on the receiving end of their condescending, holier than thou attitute.

When a person has had enough, its more than appropriate to use foul language and ask "why are you being a ****head.

It can wake a person up and show him the mirror.

OP, carry on! Don't be a servile mealy person just because you want cs to honor their claim.

He was an active ipsc shooter and was involved heavily with machine guns. 1970s -1990s

He made decent money and he was not afraid to blow money on his hobby.

It's funny, when he died I got the equipment all these tubes and NO PRIMERS.

Like come on papaw why you want to do me this way lol

I guess when they are gone so is the warranty.

The only press they ever made that had the lifetime no bs warranty and they later discontinued was the RL 450, that said the 550 uses the same everything, except they machine it for a tool head vs thread it for dies. Many sent their 450’s back to Dillon and milled for the removable shell plates anyway but all of the other parts cross over.
 
I could definitely see this happening to you with Dillon. I've have spoken to some really great CS reps over there, and some that were as you put it ****heads. The warranty is only as good as the CS reps are. I've had similar experiences with Hornady and Lyman, some happily shipped parts for free, others gave me the run around about "consumables" or not having registered the the purchase crap....a little polite push back and reminding them how many thousands of dollars I have spent with their respective companies (which is absolutely true) tends to make them more amenable. My only experience with RCBS CS, they wanted me to ship (on my dime) the inertial bullet puller back when it broke and pay for the new one to be shipped as well, to which I said screw it because the shipping costs were as much as buying a new one, so I bought a different brands offering. I have no doubt they would have sent a new one, but how good is a lifetime warranty like that on a sub $30 item? Redding was pretty good, sent me a free tub of their imperial case lube when I was having trouble sizing rifle cases. It's the only time I've ever called them. As someone else mentioned, if you have issues try hanging up and calling again until you get a different person. Find a good one, write down their name and ask for them directly from there on out.

I think a reasonable expectation would be if that specific item was still in production.

If they no longer carry it, it would be unreasonable to expect it to be replaced with the item that replaced it in their line of products. They might do it...to a reasonable degree... as a "gesture", but to expect it would scream entitlement or Karenism
 
I have been using Dillon presses since 1980 and have never gotten any clear plastic primer tubes from them. I do have some clear plastic tubes but they were purchased from an aftermarket supplier.
I am sorry but complaining about a $2.00 part on a $600 tool is petty to say the least.
 
My RL450 came with two plastic primer pickup tubes with brass fittings. I think that was around 1980 or so. I am still using those plastic tubes because I prefer the brass fitting to the newer plastic ones. It's faster and easier to use. I wish they would start offering tubes like that again.

BTW…. I heard Leupold also back their scopes forever. Like if you bought a Old Hunting rifle, they will bring the scope back to spec say if it cloudy or what not.

Same with Ruger… don’t be shy of those old rusty crusty #1’s!!!

Oh… so that’s what those are??? I have a few that were in a garage sale box purchase and I thought someone just threw them together.

Regardless of how many tubes your granddad had or needed, how many do YOU need? You said Dillon has already replaced 75 for you previously. Why do you need 200? Are you just testing Dillon's CS or do you have a legitimate need to replace something that you didn't have before your granddad died?
 
My grandfather was involved with machine guns and IPSC sport and like to load a lot in that time frame.

Before he bought the primer filler from dillon we used to all set in the kitchen and fill all 200 tubes maybe 3 times a year.

He is gone now and I DO NOT NEED 200 tubes but it's the fact they were sold under that no bs warranty and the flack I got back that bothers me.
Maybe you should just be thankful that you got all the equipment and you paid nothing for it. You do not even need them,Yet you want more?

Get over it!
 
I'm the de facto customer service guy for the company my wife and I run. I bend over backwards for our customers - my name is literally on the sign, so I want to do right by people. Without weighing in on whether Dillon owes anything in this situation, I will just say that I have sometimes had my "no" changed by a politely insistent customer. The instant someone starts calling me names, though, is the instant all productive negotiation ceases. And someone going online to trash my company because calling me a "***head" on the phone didn't work? I'd be seriously ticked off.
 
I had to go back and re-read this but that is where you blew any chance of help from Gary and I can't blame him. If you had nicely explained what you wanted you just might have had a better outcome.


Well if Gary would have stopped talking over me and ACTUALLY FLIPPING LISTENED he would have found out that I did not want 200 tubes replaced.

I told him 75 tubes were WARRENTED last year and that's when he said they would not warranty 75 tubes. He did not listen nor did he car to under stans

that's why I told him he was being ****head.

GARY SHUT THIS CONVERSATION DOWN NOT ME.

I have 10 tubes I wanted to throw in the box with my two powder measures.
