Before we get started, lets say that I always want another rifle. But Do you think I need another after looking at the calibers below.

22
22mag
223
243 - 100 grain ammo
6.5 swede - 140 grain
7 mm mag - 175 grain
44 mag

For hunting most animals and plinking around, I think I have things covered. The swede and 7 cover "most" of the larger areas.

Anything I am missing, or should I be content with what I have?

Remember, I always want, I might not always need.

You need a rifle for grizzly, moose and other loarge creatures at short range or in thick cover. 375 H&H or larger should do it.

"Need" is such a relative term. Can you believe my wife thinks she needs new shoes & a matching handbag for every outfit?!? But I CERTAINLY need a new .338 Federal Rifle!

Looks like you've got a nice selection from which to pick. How about a big-bore Safari rifle? Something in a .404 Jeffery of .450 Rigby just in case you run into a Rhino in the backyard. What?....of COURSE it could happen.

You need a .30. I'd recommend either a .30-06 or .308. In .30-06, perhaps an M1 Garand, '03 Springfield, or pre-64 Winchester Model 70. In .308, good choices would be a modern bolt gun, FAL, HK91, or even a Savage 99.

Or you could do an intermediate .30 like a 7.62x39 (AK, SKS or Mini-30), or a .30-30 (Marlin 336, Winchester 94).

You need an '06. And a .308 And a .50 cal. Write it off under zombie preparedness.

I have needs, too!

I could have used a couple millions dollars yesterday as there was a huge firearms auction with many collectables and fine firearms from pistols, to shotguns and rifles, archery equipment, decoys, cabinets, reloading equipment.

Ah, the humanity of it all! :banghead:

The Doc is out and depressed now. :(

That 7 will handle most of your .30 duties, you need a 45/70. GET THEE HENCE AND GET THEE THY BUFFALO GUN!!! You also need more .22's you don't have enough...it's not possible to have enough .22's so obviously you need more.

you asked us if you ened another rifle, but you supplied only calibers that you have. it's a big difference between having a .223 saiga and a .223 savage 10fp, for instance.

handful plus of 22's
2 - 6.5's
2 - 243's - bolts
2 - 223's - bolt and semi-auto

i think the rule is "no matter the circumstances, a new rifle is always absolutely necessary, the exception is of course when handguns are a choice...in which case you will absolutely need BOTH a rifle and a handgun."

I agree with Red Tornado ---

He's right.
The 7mm will do fine as the .30 cal. substitute.
A .45-70 Govt. rifle, ( LEVER-ACTION, of course! ) would fill the 'BIG' caliber niche.

Somebody once told me that all of North America could be hunted with a .308 & a .45-70.
Think about how nice it would be to have a few rifles in a couple of calibers and only need two kinds of ammo!
It would simplify things a bit, anyway.
( OK! OK! OK! MORE IS BETTER~!!! ;) )

I don't know where you're located, but I recommend a .45-70 Marlin lever-action as the next rifle.
And a couple more .22's, for sure!

Have fun shopping. :)

I was just pondering this thread and how it relates to my own collection. Though I've got rifles in 10 chamberings, I realized that half of them are the same caliber (7.62x39, 7.62x54R, 30-40 Krag, 30'06, and 308 Norma Magnum)! 30% are 22s (22 long rifle, 5.56x45 NATO, and 22-250 Remington)!

That leaves me with only two other calibers, 6mm Remington & 6.5x55 Swede.

I really need some .17, .25, .270, 7mm, 8mm, and .338+ rifles
