Do I really need another gun?

TCW,

I would suggest getting your C&R license as it opens up other avenues to "happiness"( MORE GUNZ!!).

There are quite a few mil-surps that are nice to have, collectible, fun to shoot AND are usually affordable. As an added bonus you also have the historical aspect to consider too!

The cost is 30.00 for three years ans is well worth it. You can save many times over that making your first buy. (BEWARE--it won't be your last!)

Considering what you already have I would add a AR15 as a companion to your Mini-14,

OR......

a 1911 (many choices available) some of which are C&R eligible... Then you have M1 Garands, M1 Carbines, 1903 & 1903a3 plus a few SKS's to choose from! I doubt that you'll be unhappy! Last year I bought a 1943 Remington 03-A3 for 525.00 shipped! Its looks almost new to boot!

Even if you never hunt you can still collect 'em! Some guys may stick with a specific model/type of pistol or rifle then proceed to "find" all variants (like Colt 1911's and 1911a1's).

Don't worry too much about if YOU need another gun! What YOU WANT NEXT is more important and therefore makes more sense!

Once you get MORE GUNS... Don't forget about MORE AMMO & ACCESSORIES! LOL

GOOD LUCK !

Be very, very afraid

The first 18 years of my life, all I needed was a Rem 870 and 700. Sure, I had the A-5 my grandpa gave me, and the muzzleloader, but they never got used. When I turned 18, I decided that, hey, I can buy guns now. Long story somewhat shorter:

1. I want a 1911
2. 1911 gets expensive to shoot, so I need a .22/45
3. Pistols are fun, but I need a rifle too. SKS finds it way into my gun cabinet (first of many impluse buys)
4. Yugo Mausers go on sale. Done deal.
5. Next week, 91/30s went on sale. Done deal.
6. I had an extra 870 I won at a DU banquet. Decided to sell it to buy a 10/22. End up trading it for a 10/22, Jap Arisaka, and Lee-Enfield MK4 No1

Thats been my last 4 months. I made way too much money as a high school co-op

Edited: The downside is buying a different caliber for each gun. I also have hundreds of dollars tied up into thousands of .22, 600 .45, 800 8mm, 400 7.62x54, who knows how much 7.62x39, some .303

Again, thats the last 4 months. Be careful.

Do I really need to spend another $700 or so on a rifle when I could do other things w/ the money (pay off my car faster!).

I often try to reason like you do - but I eventually give in and spend the money! I bought my $700 rifle just a few weeks ago! Luckily I still have money for food and the car is still in the driveway! :D

In reality, what situation that I'm likely to be in would actually require a 150-400 yd shot?

Who cares? If you like long range shooting a rifle is nice to have. If you have self protection in mind buying the rifle - then I say there is virtually no situation where a civilian in the US would be required to make a 150 - 400 yard shot in self defense. I like shooting my .308 for the fun of it and that is good enough for me!;)

A member on another forum posted some replies he makes to customers in his gunshop and I hope he won't mind my repeating them here.

Customer: I have enough guns.
Dealer: They are still making them so obviously you don't.

C: I already have three guns.
D: I have three guns ON ME.

C: I already own 25 guns.
D: I have 25 guns in my car.

I'd like to add a comment made by a minister I recently heard speak. He said that in his work he has visited many people during their last few minutes on Earth. He says that so far not one of them ever said that they wished they had another 15 minutes so they could bitch some more.
