Depends on the situation,
sometimes it's "What do you think this thing on my hip is?" or "When I feel I should", or "Hell yeah, why? don't you?" or possibly "I have that right", but it really depends on the person and if I know them or not.
If I don't know or trust them they probably get no info
There are several choices that I might use. It depends on who asks. Some people I might just say "yes" and go about my business. Somefolks might get a "Why do you ask?" Others might get "None of your business."
Just like we shouldn't only have 1 tool (a gun) in our tool box, we might need more than one answer to this question.
I can't imagine a random person asking this question. However, it depends on the circumstances. Most of my coworkers know I am former LEO and work in a firearms friendly office so they expect me to carry as I am also known as being very pro gun. Most of my office is pro gun or neutral on the issue, I don't know anyone who is out and out antigun. So if ask by someone there I would answer honestly, yes. In a social situation I would try to divert the question, unless the indication was that the individual was looking for assistance as to obtaining a ccl or what and how to carry. So basically it would depend on the situation.
All the choices were negative. First, I will start with who is asking the question? A friend, co-worker, homeowner, police, spouse, in-laws, parents, shopkeeper or the general public? Each would get a different answer. For some I would tell the truth for others I would outright lie. One thing I wouldn’t do is be a smart*** about it.
My first permit was issued by the State of Connecticut. Not certain of the year but I'd guess 1977 or 1978. In the early 1980's I moved to Massachusetts and got a permit there.
Just had to click the radio button for the thong/edible panties response, not that I have ever been put in that position, but smile at the thought. Friends know I carry, strangers don't, it's that simple.
I'm an instructor for the NRA's First Steps class and the MN permit to carry. It would be pretty stupid of me not to carry and everyone knows I do as a result of what I teach. It just goes with the territory.
I remember when I introduced my cousin (She’s a Secret Service Agent) to my friends. One of the first questions they asked was “Are you carrying a gun”? I was embarrassed with the fact that they would asked such a question. Although she responded and said “What do you think”. They shrugged there heads yes. She then said “Well there’s your answer”. They had a big grin on there face, and we switched subjects.
Although later she told me privately she wasn’t and we laughed.
