If I lived in a place where I was that scared that I felt a need to carry a gun, inside my own home...., I'd move.

There is a basic assumption in your sentence that simply is not true.

Assumption: People carry guns because they are scared.

Reality: No, some of us put our guns on as we get dressed, in exactly the same matter-of-fact way we put on a seatbelt when we get into the car.

Bingo. I carry from the time I get dressed in the morning till the time I get undressed for bed. Why? Because my carry piece is attached to my pants. I don't take it off when I get home because I made sure to get a very comfortable carry hoster when I got my CPL. My gun is comfortable enough that I don't even notice it's there most of the time, even when sitting on the couch. It actually feels uncomfortable when I don't have it on, because I'm used to it.

"If I had to drive in traffic that was so dangerous I felt the need to wear a seatbelt every day ... I'd quit driving."

Um, no. You drive there because you believe it's safe, and you wear a seatbelt anyway because random disaster might strike. Ditto carrying the gun at home.

Right. I don't go around the house thinking that at any minute someone is going to break in. I'm relaxed at home and feel safer there than most places except at work (where I also still carry). But if I do need my gun, it's there and I've trained often enough to use it reflexively, even if I'm relaxed and watching TV. Likewise goes for my AR, which is next to the bed when I'm sleeping, next to my pants with the holster still on my belt. I don't have it there because I think WW3 is going to start any minute or the JBTs are going to be knocking in my door, or some equally far-fetched fantasy. I have it there because I've trained with it extensively and can work it's controls and aim it reflexively if needed. I do not have my shotgun there instead because it is new and I haven't trained with it much and do not know it as well as my AR.

It's all about preparedness, not fear. My quality of life isn't impacted one way or the other by my having guns around because they are worked comfortably into my existance and not bolted on in some artificial way.

I chose the second option. I have a gun on my person some of the time in the house. Relaxing in front of the tube in my jammies doesn't usually cut it. But there is always a loaded gun available within seconds. 4 within arms reach at this point in time. When there is an alert, there is usually a couple strapped on. :)

I voted sometimes. I usually don't have one on my person, but there is a Taurus PT-99, Glock 17, or Remington 870 where i can get to it REAL QUICK.

I HATE LIVING IN AN APARTMENT!!!!!! :cuss: :cuss: :banghead: :banghead: :fire: :fire:

It's funny- I guess that I'm on both sides of the fence- here me out before you jump down my throat.

To be honest, I always thought that people that carry at home are overly paranoid. Why after all, would I have to fear my locked-up home?

Then I think about it- I ALWAYS have a gun, sometimes two, at easy reach. When the biker gang in the back has a party, the 30-30 comes out. When the kids with bikes race up and down the street, same thing. Bike week, same thing. Kids park in the fire road next door are partying/ making out, same thing. I just don't "feel" right, same thing. At my old house, we were 2 miles from the "Brockton Fair"- during that week, crime would usualy go up something insane like 200%, I ALWAYS had a gun out.

I have two dogs, one is a terrier mix that barks at everything. If she is at the vet's, etc, the toys come out.

Yup, I guess I am "One of THOSE PEOPLE".

In cool weather as soon as I get home I shed the coat and tie and put a sweatshirt over my G23, in warm weather I get home un- Glock and drop a Kel Tec 3AT in my pocket but I always have a gun.

I do because it's habit, mainly. I feel naked w/o it. But if I wanted to get down to bare knuckels, yes, I am somewhat "paranoid".
Anything can happen at anytime, anywhere and if it does, I want what I need NOW. At home , work or wherever. I liken it to being prepared.

Thanks to an idiot sister and her moronic boyfriend (I have yet to see them lock or even close the kitchen door) I always carry in the house. However as a result of my irrational fear of prison I do not carry elsewhere. Thank you enlightened masses and benevilent electec state officials. :barf:

I carry full time, just feel better having it with me. I live alone and have some pretty bad neighbors right across the street, lots of fights going on over there, transients moving in and out all the time, cops over there at least once a week, guys beating up women in the front yard, etc.

I put them on notice not to come over here anymore, they were over here every day to borrow something or other. Thankfully they are now keeping their distance.

I wear my P229 .40 all day every day while working in my shop, and in the evening when I'm relaxing it's right on the table next to my recliner. When I turn in it's under my pillow.

Home is the one place where carrying is completely unrestricted.

It's also the place where there is more that's important to me than anywhere else.

I always figured it was a no-brainer.

I can throw on a windbreaker or jacket, and quickly cover the gun so as not to freak out the Mormons, Mailman, neighbor kids, or whoever else might knock on my door.

Personally, I could care less about who I offend. Those who regularly come into my home already know I own guns and carry, and respect me for that. Those who don't....well....it is MY home, right?

Hmmm, I'll have to concider that. Almost wished I had a gun visible today when I answered the door, instead of my .357 snubby in my back pocket (thanks to whoever mentioned that idea earlier in the thread), just to scare off the salesperson who was bothering me.

I carry while outside working (mowing, clearing trees) for rattlesnakes or two-legged vermin, and inside unless it's movie night (the wife don't like snuggling up against the Glock). Every night though, there's at least a pistol (more likely an AR) beside my chair, and a Mossberg beside the bed.

I've got three dogs, a GSD, a pit bull, and a Blue Heeler, so anyone coming in the door without me opening it is probably in trouble already, but the people in the paper that are victims might have thought that as well.

"Don't worry about the dogs, beware of owner," that's my motto. :D

I usually have one of my carry guns closeby (probably would take me less than 10 seconds to get to it, but I don't actually carry in the house. Doors and windows are virtually always locked and anybody breaking in is going to make a ruckus.

If I have one on I leave it on. If not there is one always close by.

I have to be a bit more careful when working on the yard, and other outdoor projects, as I do not want my weapon to be exposed and scare the neighbors. My street has it's share of Sheeple.

I don't always carry at home...

...But there is always a loaded firearm in the same room with me. For those who think it's paranoid, if someone intent on harming you came through your front door right now, how long will it take them to reach you?

if i'm wearing pants i'm wearing a gun. usually kick off the ankle holster when i relax in front of the tv, but i don't take the other one off 'till i take my pants off, even then it's always in arm's reach. i've even been known to set a shotgun behind the door before i open it at a weird hour or if i just don't "feel right"
it doesn't hurt and it might come in handy some time. besides, chicks dig it.

I don't, often, but may consider when I get my Sig P239. A bit more comfy to wear, I'm hoping, than the Ruger P95.

Once upon a time, when I had a gold badge in my pocket, I always carried my service weapon around the house, simply because it was too much effort to take it off. Usually carried my cuffs and spare rounds, too. Since I was subject to a duty call 24/7, never had to worry about doing anything but grabbing a jacket to cover it if the SHTF.

Nowadays, I always have my Kel-Tec P-32 with "Pocket Slipper" laser in my right rear pocket, again, because it's just easier to always have it there. Of course, I now live full-time in an RV and travel constantly, so being "at home" is quite a bit different than what most of y'all experience...

Hypno - I wonder - interesting point - does your RV count truly as ''home'' - I ask because as you go thru the various states - how do you handle carry etc??

On the one hand - in ''home'' you can have your protection - OTOH - you are in a vehicle and that changes things! Yeah? Or no?

Trying to visualize - so what is the ''slipper''?

Do you get online with your cell phone?

I carry, (Or have within reach,) at home sometimes, but with no CCW in Cali it would be too easy to leave and forget to put the gun away. I don't feel like getting a felony plus jail time plus losing my guns just cause of a brain fart.

My wife isn't really comfortable with it, and I don't feel comfortable doing it in front of the kids, so it doesn't happen all the time. If I had a CCW, I would do it, though.

Really, though, if I am awake what situation is going to occur where I need it on my person? A no-knock warrant? Unlikely to happen to me, and I'd be screwed anyway. If no one but me is home, I am fighting my way to the safe anyway cause that's where the long guns are. So when I am home alone it is pistol in reach for me most of the time.

I would question what possible scenarios people see for needing it on the body 24/7. (Not saying there aren't reasons, just asking what they are.)

It's called home invasion. You must have heard of it?

Totally unlikely? In my case, yes.

Impossible? No.

Living in fear? No.

Prepared? Yes. I was a Boy Scout once, I have no choice. :p
