I was making a post recently, where I stated that I carry when I'm at home with a pistol in a shoulder harness. I got a reaction from someone who seemed quite surprised that I carried at home. I always thought that most gun owners carried when they were at home, or would at least be open to the idea. Well, that got me thinking about what others do when at home. Do you feel safe in your own home and walk around in condition white? Unless you live in a reinforced underground concrete bunker, this may not be the wisest course of action. What are your thoughts about carrying at home and around the house?

I like the shoulder harness, because if someone knocks on the door, I can throw on a windbreaker or jacket, and quickly cover the gun so as not to freak out the Mormons, Mailman, neighbor kids, or whoever else might knock on my door. Sure, it's my house, and I can do what I want in there, but I'd rather not have the neighbor kids/mailman or Mormons talk about the "gun nut" that lives down the street. I think the wrong person might hear about it, and rob me for my precious guns when I'm not home.

What do you think? Paranoid or prepared?

I do not “carry†at home, but there is always a house gun in easy reach.

Otherwize known as "the best excuse to buy a gun for every room in your house. I like it!!!! Now, instead of carrying in my house, I'll just buy a gun for every room in my house, and two guns for bigger rooms! :D

basiclly only time i carry at home is when i plan on going out or have come home from being out and havent take it off yet other wise theres a gun in ever room

Of course you should carry at home...

Of course you should carry a gun at home. The old saying, better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it. Wouldn't you feel foolish to have your guns in a safe when you get assaulted and burglarized, maybe killed, and be helpless to resist, when you could have saved yourself and your family?

My little .32 is always in my pocket. Prefering to have it if needed as opposed to needing and not having.

i dont fully understand, i mean if its nearby all the time at home, isnt that the same thing?

depending on size of your place, or like some friends, how many pieces are available, you might not have to have it in your pocket at home to be armed.

not grabbing it to answer the door.....
mostly just have lots of blunt/heavy and sharp objects within reach at all times,
better chance of being able to shovel and shut up that way (quieter)

still live in military dormitories :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

BUT when I get my own place, It's gonna be SET UP.

reinforced semi-buried shelter with SHTF weapons and ammo. With SKS's still so low in price, there's almost no reason not to grab up a few!

As for carrying at home- the most dangerous thing I can carry in my dorm room is a baseball bat or a small knife. I had my bayonets and airsoft gun confiscated early last year. If the rules on military bases are anything like the future of our country- It may be savvy to have a bunker full of arms and ammo :uhoh:

I voted "always," however I just noticed thats not actually the case. I dont sleep with a pistol on my person, not on purpose anyway...

Yeah, I carry when I'm home relaxing, just me and the woman. Never know when that monster under the bed or in my closet is going to jump out and mean bidniss. :neener:

When I'm in bed my pants are within easy reach and my gun is in the pocket. That way if something goes bump crash tinkle tinkle in the night hopefully my first action will be to put my pants on. If time is too short I can at least get a hand on the gun and shoot through the pants if I have to.

OK, now what's my backup plan...

Never know when that monster under the bed or in my closet is going to jump out and mean bidniss.
ROFLMAO!!! That reminds me of Major Payne.

"If he's still in there, he ain't happy!"

I answered never carry in the house but my house is full of loaded guns. Actually 2 within 4 feet of me now.

I live out of town and carry a laser equiped S&W Model 60 in my pocket when walking around the place at night.

If I lived in a place where I was that scared that I felt a need to carry a gun, inside my own home...., I'd move.

C'mon folks. You can't live your life afraid of everything. You can't make yourself completly safe everywhere, all the time. You take reasonable risks all day and you also take reasonable precautions. You get in your car, you take a risk. You get in a friends car, you take a risk and give up control. You walk down the sidewalk, you risk an out of control car hitting you anyway. You walk down a city street, you risk a wall mounted sign falling on you. You eat at a resturant and you are at the mercy of the cook that you don't see. You buy any food anywhere and you are at risk of poor sanitation of others.

Life is a series of risks. If you are that nervous, go sit in the corner of a bunker with all your guns at the ready, and fear the toxins that were on the ammo box. Did you wear the rubber gloves?

Flame on!

No flame from me Mike. I agree. My gun goes in the safe when I get home and the safe stays unlocked but latched closed. I see no reason to carry around the house, esp. while inside with the doors locked. My dogs would make enough racket for me to have time to get to the safe. Besides, my house is all of 1200 square feet. Nobody's going to sneak in without me hearing them.

I usually carry at home (ankle-holster). I carried this way for so long I never notice it anymore.

I voted "sometimes" but more accurately, I have carried at home but not often and not lately.
I feel safe and I keep the house secure. I have access to 'em on both floors and in the basement. No real need to keep one on me.
When I did carry it was because of a situation(s) that made me feel uneasy.

I carry at home (where I also work) all the time except for in bed or in the shower. It may be open or concealed depending on the weather and my mood. We live on 40 acres way out in the hills, and sheriff response is a minumum 30 minutes.

There are also one or more rifles around the house ready to grab. Usually guns get used for porcupines, snakes, or (problem) stray dogs. There are coyotes, foxes, cougars, bears, and possibly wolves in this area also but so far they have never been a problem. But we don't have calves or lambs and we kept the mini-horses inside a 6' fence at night.

More than once we have had people show up on our doorstep on foot, and the dogs didn't even bark until they knocked. Usually they are broke down or run off the road. Never had a problem with them, but you never know who it is. For some reason, fugitives seem to like to run to this part of the country.

We have mostly good neighbors except for one old coot who sells pornography and who we believe has been sneaking around our yard (a subject covered in detail over in Strategies & Tactics). But he's supposed to be going to prison next month.

We also have some relatives and former acquaintences who are absolutely not welcome on our property. We have tried to keep our address unknown to them after we moved, but you never know.

Actually, one of the reasons that we moved out here is so that I could be armed all the time without any hassle.

Anyone who thinks that they are automatically safe inside their house is just like that Chicago judge who recently had members of her family murdered. :uhoh:

Actually carrying at home is the easiest carry available. Little or no fear of exposing your CCW and having the sheeple going crazy. I carry everywhere but the bathroom and bed. When in bed the gun is within arms reach. When I answer the door my gun is in my rear pocket with my hand on the grip ready to draw if needed. Outside I pocket carry.

If I lived in a place where I was that scared that I felt a need to carry a gun, inside my own home...., I'd move.

I dno't know about you, but I am not any safer in my home than anywhere else if there is a determined criminal who wants to rob me. Home invasions are almost unheard of in North Dakota, but I sure wouldn't want to be the first one and be unprepared.

I carry almost everywhere I go. Not because I am paranoid, but because I like to be prepared. I sure would feel crappy if my house was invaded and I survived but my family was killed or injured because I was not prepared at that time. Matter of fact, I would feel downright stupid to be caught in that situation unprepared.

I realize, as most of us here do, that a gun is not a magical talisman and will not be able to stop all incidents, but it at least gives me a chance.

Well, not always but as often as possible. My home is currently the only place where I’m “legally” allowed to carry a weapon.
