Do you think any criminals get gun tips here?

This thought has crossed my mind every now and then. Most recently when I read about that case where a guy was killed with a Makarov and the FBI was looking at Maks all over the country. I started thinking that the guy probably bought a Mak because it was the cheapest gun in the case but what if he bought it because he read about what a reliable gun it was for the money here or somewhere else like it. Not that we can do anything about it if true but do you think that any criminals/mobsters come here to get tips on what weapons they might choose to commit crimes?

I know most criminals are too stupid to do this but not all of them are. What do you think?

Maybe the BG stole the Mak?

If you include civil disobedience, then the answer would be yes.
 
I would suspect that a true professional might but nothing short of that. I think a place like this might scare the average criminal.
 
I agree, Jeeper. If i was a BG and I read on here where many people say they carry a gun or two, a coupla reloads, pepper spray, and have 100 guns in a safe at home, i would think twice before commiting a crime.

I'd say that the odds of a BG using THR or another gun-related forum to get tips are pretty unlikely.

And even then, I'd have to say that sites like this probably convince more law abiding people to carry than they give BG's tips for making new victims.

I am sufficiently un-organized that any data like that would become badly mixed-up by the time it left my hands ;)
 
In my experiance the "average" criminal (if there is one) has several key characteristics these include:

1) substandard academic (i.e. reading) skills
2) poor impulse control
3) substance addiction
4) difficulty planning and formulating abstract thoughts
5) poor social skills and self esteem (wow, what an overused set of words!They are used here in their descriptive sense rather than their psychobabble sense.)

These traits would make it less likely that very many criminals would frequent such a board.

So if you're looking for criminals you might ask at DU instead. ;)

Substandard reedin? Whatinthehell is he talkin about, I find that to be offe, uffins, affinsev, fitin words!

Poor impulse control? I dont have an impulse engine, so how can I have that?

Substance addiction. Just because someone goes thru 5 cans of Skoal and 2 fifths of Jack every day...Thinks he's better than me...

Difficulty forming abstract (what does that mean...) thougths. Huh. Damned colledge-edumikated noo-it-awwls.

Low self esteem. Just because someone is a hermit...

Lets see, if I want long range, use a Barret, or a .308 in lieu of that, Most are armed and alarmed, so the throwing knives and security system codes are going to come in handy, safes require a stolen crane truck (which can take out houses and popo's), wow, what a great site! So informative!
 
I think alot of people need to look around and see that not all BG are as ignorant as most believe. Most of the things they do require some type of plannng and considering their success rate they don't do to bad.

NEVER UNDER ESTIMATE YOUR ENEMY!!!!
 
Before internet, BGs certainly did at times read gun magazines. The recent parole of Kathy Boudin is a good example of what BGs are capable of - in the 1981 Brinks robbery they were well trained , plained the operation in great detail, carried full auto weapons and bullet proof vests. To quote Majic "never underestimate your enemy"
 
The types of criminals that would come here for information are most likely not the types that roam the streets in gangs looking for people to mug. They'd probably be engaged in more lucrative (white collar) crimes that aren't as violent. Bank robbers are usually the street criminal variety, not the type seen in "Heat." Basically, if a criminal is smart enough and cares enough to come here looking for info, they should be smart enough to know that low level violent crime doesn't yield as much money as white collar crime.

Naturally there are exceptions, but I think this is the case most of the time.
 
They may, or they may not, but that is the criminal's karma, and not ours.

IMO, very little of the info here would be of use to a criminal. After all, it's not like we sit around discussing advanced bank heisting strategies.

Besides, lets say the answer is yes. Then what?

Honest folks shouldn't get together in public to talk about firearms? We should be constrained based on what criminals _might_ do?

Yes, of course some criminals do use forums like this. Chances are, it isn't your basic street level crack dealing criminal, but others. Heck, numerous people admit to carrying illegally on these forums. Are they a criminal? Well, they are definitely law breakers.

No doubt some people who are now not criminals will be criminals in the future and they are using forums like this right now. I really like reading the announcements by some that they will shoot anyone who tries to take their guns again, inclusive of law enforcement officers. In short, they are promising to commit murder.

Interesting. So this equals "criminal" to you? Despite the fact that several founding fathers clearly stated the whole point of the armed citizenry was to prevent just such abuses of power?
 
Underestimating the BG's is not good.

Many a BG has access to the net and know how to use a computer [ if they are under 25-30, they got it in school ].

The smart ones will be here one day, the bangers on the streets probably not.

The smart ones are the ones to watch, they plan, they get ideas, they execute their plans efficiently.

Probably doesn't happen often enough to worry about it but it most definately can and probably has ocurred here.
